@Nativesurvival Saw a post to RMDM502, but couldn't find his question for context. Was the 2 part oats, 1 part pancake mix your updated bannock recipe? Can't wait to try this version out this weekend. Anyway, thanks for the great information and all the excellent videos you put out. Much appreciated sir.
I'd suggest when you do finally get a second Guyot bottle, put your bannock mix in a plastic bag inside your bottle, that way it both helps it stay dry and you can take it out if you need to use your bottle as a container, and then put it back without worrying about having to pour it out, or having it contaminated by whatever you put in your bottle in the meantime. Plus, an extra plastic bag is always a good bit of kit.
Now that I've seen and tried... I'm going to try your recipe, but exchange the pancake mix with some different flavored cake mixes. Have an idea that it would break any sameness in the routine. Will let y'all know my results good or bad.
@trevor6744 few reasons, pancake mix is multidimensional, instead of just flour.. it has flour as well as other ingredients.. it tastes better as it needs less spices to make it taste better.. also seems to be thicker and crust better too.
Good vid Mitch, glad to see your using "organic" would this work using a whole wheat flour or buckwheat? I am trying to get away from white flour, Also how do you use "pine" in yours????
@Nativesurvival I will look forward to your vid, always good to know what natural things we can use out in the woods, better for us anyways. I just tried pine needle tea this year and it was very good! Did you know it can help asma symtoms!
Your vids are great and you are a good teacher, keep the good work! Blessings to you and your family
@DisillusionedAcronym Thanks ; ) yeah nutrition is important in the woods, more so than in society.. everything is hands on in the woods, takes time, and effort, in society we sit on padded couches and wait for the oven to cook our food.. comfortable temp, no wind, soft floors, no snow etc.. its all relaxation and minimal wear and tear on our bodies.. the woods are naturally the opposite until you modify them to be comfortable, which takes effort and determination drawn from your energy.
@winterskyshadow35 All measurements given in ratios.. thus you can make this with any size container... that's why it was done this way, i show the percentages of materials in my container a few times..
Basically,
50% Flour, 10% Oats, 10% Flax Seeds, 30% Sugar, and dashes of Cinnamon and Salt.
Hope this makes more sense in writing for ya, this way ANY container will work, no measuring..
@Nativesurvival oh man, that is amazing. The whole family was amazed. This one is a keeper for sure. Made mine with dried apples.

Nice job Mitch. Looks like a good recipe. I'll have to give it a try. One concern I have
is when you grind flax seed there is a possiblity that it could go rancid. Have you
had any problems with this?

After you have mixed it all up, and have ITC (Intent to cook) it do you just add water and cook it by the fire?
