As a young girl I remember a neighbor who took in horses for slaughter. I remember hearing them all night before they were killed. They knew it was coming.I was told they were mostly horses people could not afford to keep. Many were young and healthy horses. Few were old and sick They became dog food. This is disturbing. I would save an animal ANY ANIMAL before I would a human because humans are just so cruel ometimes and animals give us all unconditional love if they are cared for correctly. How could you do that to an animal? If I had money lie a celeb or big CEO I would PAY to shut these places down and find the people working here and give them a good ass whoopin to see if they like it.

I am rather sure that this comment will not be allowed. I have been in the horse industry all of my life, I am pro slaughter. This is because of the extreme neglect and cruelty that I have seen since the close of these processing plants and the recession that we as a country are currently in. I find it extremely annoying when the whole story is left out. I think that you need to give those plants that take the efforts to do this in humane ways their dues.

The inhumane procedures here are the same used in other meat industries. Cattle are killed the same way. As are pigs. All of it, inhumane and cruel. Private, small meat companies tend to take care of their animals and respect them. These big corporations are trying to squeeze out as much money as they can from the blood and pain of these animals. There needs to be multiple revisions in the industry to make them see these animals are living, feeling creatures and not just another dollar.

I've owned horses and they get scared very easily and can sense things before you even know they are happening. I would NEVER eat horse meat and I'm not a violent person but if someone fed it to me without me knowing what it was I would hurt them. They are also given drugs that are BANNED for human consumption. See USDA's lists on banned substances. :

If you have to put your horse down, get some GUTS and have a VET do it HUMANELY!!! I had my old horse put down by a vet, i did NOT send it to slaughter ALIVE! It simply went to sleep very gently in nice quiet familiar surroundings, shade trees and its horse friends, if i were a horse, thats what i would want when my time on earth is finished....

Horses are only one sad story of this livestock killing: chickens are packed in crates for 13 months, veal can't not move until they get to the slaughterhouse and only fed milk here for that delicious "Veau de lait"... and pigs...

But horses wear "shoes", slippering on concrete. Also, when they feel trapped, they want to run. I have been working with horse's for 11 nearly 12 years! and it makes me feel sick when i see this! i work at a place with five horse's and i look after them! there owner can't because she having her first baby and can't do much! And every day when i get there they all canter over! I love them with all my heart and i will be there for them always! And Lorenzo (14'1 Camarge gelding) is my fav and i always bring him something! shooting a horse is no question the easyest and most humain way of killing a horse, if the bullet doesnt go threw the skull thats because the shooter didnt do it properly. when done properly the horse feels no pain and is compleatly dead imedeatly. they do not slaughter horses in the united states. i was born and raised in farms. when you have been around it as long as i have you unterstand there is no way around shooting your own animals. it has to be done when the time comes

I'm a "executioner" on my family farm and I kill from 1kg chikens to 1ton cows. I usualy crush the head with a 50kg sledge hammer or dehead with a big axe. Those never failed to cause instant death, exept once I had to kill a 1,2 ton bull. Those tow method's wouldn't kill him instanteneosly, so instead of trying them, I grabed my grampa's rifle, loaded it with a .40 bullet and shot him with the gun about 5cm of his head

If "clean kill" means few blood driping around or no gibets I understand and agree that my methods are actually dirty However, we have to admit they'r painless and quick.
As for the gun, I had to kill with what I had, and if I hadn't used the gun, it would have been uneficient and painfull for a animal that size

As for the hammer, it was my "invention" and I'll explain why: It was on the first time I had to slaughter a cow. The axe would never make it in just one hit, the neck is too strong for that. I tought that the only way to make it painless n' quick would be a super strong hit on the head. That's when the sledge hammer came to mind

I saved a horse from going to slaughter, he is 26 years young, and is an amazing horse! and he will live the rest of his days with me, and a pleasure trail horse. He only gets ridden once to twice a week due to bad shoulders, but he has so much heart!

If you have to put your horse down, get some GUTS and have a VET do it HUMANELY!!! I had my old horse put down by a vet, i did NOT send it to slaughter ALIVE! It simply went to sleep very gently in nice quiet familiar surroundings, shade trees and its horse friends, if i were a horse, thats what i would want when my time on earth is finished....

Horses are only one sad story of this livestock killing: chickens are packed in crates for 13 months, veal can't not move until they get to the slaughterhouse and only fed milk here for that delicious "Veau de lait"... and pigs...

But horses wear "shoes", slippering on concrete. Also, when they feel trapped, they want to run. Therefore, it's impossible to put their head in that hole...so they get kill in which ever way...their agony lasting sometimes up to 4 minutes.

I have been working with horse's for 11 nearly 12 years! and it makes me feel sick when i see this! i work at a place with five horse's and i look after them! there owner can't because she having her first baby and can't do much! And every day when i get there they all canter over! I love them with all my heart and i will be there for them always! And Lorenzo (14'1 Camarge gelding) is my fav and i always bring him something! He follows me everywhere! (read above)

shooting a horse is no question the easyest and most humain way of killing a horse, if the bullet doesnt go threw the skull thats because the shooter didnt do it properly. when done properly the horse feels no pain and is compleatly dead imedeatly. they do not slaughter horses in the united states. i was born and raised in farms. when you have been around it as long as i have you unterstand there is no way around shooting your own animals. it has to be done when the time comes

I'm a "executioner" on my family farm and I kill from 1kg chikens to 1ton cows. I usualy crush the head with a 50kg sledge hammer or dehead with a big axe. Those never failed to cause instant death, exept once I had to kill a 1,2 ton bull. Those tow method's wouldn't kill him instanteneosly, so instead of trying them, I grabed my grampa's rifle, loaded it with a .40 bullet and shot him with the gun about 5cm of his head

@nsdgvsdhfhjdfbd - nothing much you described there constitutes a clean kill. a clean kill is with an arrow or similar and kills right away. or it involves natural stunning, like with acupressure, and then a sharp cut to a major bloodway, in a natural environment. otherwise it's mostly fucked up evil and sick. guns are only ok for hunting if you're indigenous and modern fucked up society has eroded your culture compromised you. with very few exceptions.

If "clean kill" means few blood driping around or no gibets I understand and agree that my methods are actually dirty However, we have to admit they'r painless and quick.
As for the gun, I had to kill with what I had, and if I hadn't used the gun, it would have been uneficient and painfull for a animal that size

As for the hammer, it was my "invention" and I'll explain why: It was on the first time I had to slaughter a cow. The axe would never make it in just one hit, the neck is too strong for that. I tought that the only way to make it painless n' quick would be a super strong hit on the head. That's when the sledge hammer came to mind
I understand it looks evil but at least she didn't sufered, and that was my only concern.

I saved a horse from going to slaughter, he is 26 years young, and is an amazing horse! and he will live the rest of his days with me, and a pleasure trail horse. He only gets ridden once to twice a week due to bad shoulders, but he has so much heart!
