@Zipidy2k6 I think I was talking about....I'm not sure, but I guess I could mean the whole thing of learning the art, or what the person in the vid was doing.
100% fantastic at last a video on youtube which shows a student with respect for his dojo, sensei and karate. to many videos show disrespectfull students being taught crap and its nice to see how it should be done. it shows that you have earnt the belt you wear and it shows your sensei knows what he is teaching. please post more videos of you and your club so that others can see the proper way to act in a dojo
@putty2812, thank you very much for your comment. I really do appreciate your nice attitude and would like to share more of my martial arts videos with you. Please check out my Heian Shodan video. I would really like to get your opinion on what you think of my tutorial. Thanks again!
search youtube for mawashi geri and take a look at kagawa sensei's mawashi geri, should be the first one.
notice how relaxed his arms are and how upright his back allways is. also don't let his leg apperture intimidate you as all he does can be done following the same principals anly lower.
@beautenoire, hey there, I wish you the best of luck in your performance in two weeks. I hope you pass your green belt test and feel great in doing so. Just train hard in the meantime and keep yourself healthy. Thanks for the positive feedback, too...I appreciate it. Oh and soon I will be adding Shotokan Karate tutorial videos to my website: Paul Gale Network . com
i used to have speed like this before my elbows got hyperextended :( Now i ahve trouble just throwing a fully extended punch :( But this makes me want to train hard again, maybe one day i can get past that issu eand be good again :D
Ok this is my opinion so don't get fucking Pissy at me.
i think he's very good in karate, i also think he sucks at TEACHING karate. Im only a green belt, but my karate teacher always teaches me to do moves in a slow position then work you're way up to fast only when you can do it perfect though.
ah, well just watched some more and it really is an interesting video :) I mean, yes there are mistakes, but also things I myself didn't pay too much attention too before :O .. I've got some kids to teach in a few hours, and this video made me remind the importance of the basics :) .. yay! got me motivated :P gj! :P
I started skipping halfway the video. However, the first thing I saw with the simple forward punches, and tbh overall a bit. Is that your working a lot from the shoulders. You first make a step, .. and then the punch comes. Should be at the same time, step finished, punch finished. This also causes your punches to make a sort of half-circle movement upwards, instead of straight forwards. You've got a lot of power. So finish the hip rotation / end of the punch and step at the same time :)
Shotokan-ryu. Watch the straght punches in this dude's kata up until 25 seconds in, and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. The only style of Karate that I found preferable is Shidokan.
you learn your alphabet before you learn words same idea when you start karate you learn a complete technique then you make combinations. also when you punch one hand is punching the other hand that goes to the hip (hikate) would have hold of your opponent and pulling them onto the punch so the marking hand is the block.
Yes sir. Well, actually I WAS. I left Karate more than 2 years ago, but in these days I was thinking in training again. I did my 1st Dan test and passed under a Japanese Sensei called Iroshi Ishikawa (7° Dan). I failed the first time I did the test (like most people in their first-time black-belt test, with this Sensei). The second time, I passed :)
For basic practice, this type of training is ok. I prefer hitting pads, bags, sparring, and other, more physical applications...specifically fighting.
You are very skilled. I am deeply, deeply impressed. Though, if you don't mind me suggesting something, I'd like you to work more on your chambering. Otherwise, I am very impressed with both your form, and fluidity.
Thank you very much for your comment; it's great to receive all kinds of feedback from fellow martial artists. I will continue to train hard and improve.
I am only a lowly orange belt in Shotokan (although I am going for my red belt in two days)I train anywhere from 2 - 7 hours with my sensei and also almost every night as well, I love watching accomplished practitioners doing the movements with such skill - it makes me happy. Gives us lower grades something to look up to! The only problem I find with the Shotokan system is that it is so long between gradings! But your video is inspirational, thank you. Hope to see more very soon.
Good for you on being an orange belt and I wish you a successful red belt test, tomorrow. Thank you for the nice words about my video, and keep it up, yourself. I do have four other Shotokan Karate videos that are up, if you'd like to see them.
Thank you for the answer. Without a doubt that the techniques bases are exhausting, a lot of energy, but I congratulate him because it is with spirit and with being able to. OSS!

i am impressed, finally a good practitioner on youtube i used to do shukokai karate, almost the same stuff, a few differences but nothing major, all your techniques look solid but I have to say, work on your breathing, remember, diaphragm and controlled breathing, try not to expand the chest so much as much as the diaphragm and stomach, dont get nervous and carried away with the motions, haha i know its hard when ur on camera but try it
You're motions are solid, time to see some sparring!
Thank you for the positive comment, Joe. That's one of the great things about YouTube; having such a huge place to show your work and get such feedback. Have a good one.
iam goin for my black belt soon but i still cant do a good side kick or roundhouse kick i have looked at videos but i just cant do it is there any think i can do
Practice both moves very slowly. Perhaps you need more balance or strength in your hib abductors, to perform the kicks, better. What in particular is difficult about each move, for you?
How is your flexibility, the balance of your supporting leg, and the strength in your kicking leg?
You need hip flexibility, and that will just come in time, after working at it over and again. Your supporting leg needs to be well balanced, so you can maintain the stance, properly. And as for your stregth, legs in general, are pretty heavy, so perhaps you need to make them stronger, so your starting position can be "knee above your belt".
Great stuff, stumbled onto one of your Videogame Q&A and then was surprised to see that you practice Shotokan as well. And I thought I was the only geek who trained in Shotokan :D

Yup, that's it exactly. I had to punch very close to the pen, 12 times, and at different angles, speeds in between, distances, etc., without touching it. And I didn't touch the pen, so that was good.
Hey that's really cool. My first martial art (when I was seven, was a Korean Martial Art: Tae Kwon Do). Punching without guarding, and without driving with the shoulder, hip or the leg is one of the many reasons why I quit karate.

In my shotokan class all of our punches have to be driven by the hip, and we also guard when we punch.
Kewickviper 3 years ago
It would be silly to not guard and not use the hip rotation.
High technical quality is an trademark of Shotokan karate, Either you didn't follow your instructors pointers or he didn't watch his students.
