  • all i know is that the fastest sr is 7.25 at the quarter mile while the fastest ka is 7.73. i believe the difference is that the sr has the option of vvl and the ka does not.

  • @wajalama i go by experience. Every owner that has owned an SR has of coursed owned a KA. Ask an owner to which engine they would prefer and imo the reason the SR is better is reliability. easy to figure out whats wrong and easy to fix. The ka24de, i won't even start. It had a mind of its own and run good somedays and be bogging bad other days and god damn did i hate the timing chain rattle it had. Plus the fastest engine between the two is the SR with a time of 7.05. (kakos SR)

  • @wajalama they don't come with cam lift but mazworx sells a setup so you can put the head off of a sr20ve so the option is available. Its just hard to find an sr20ve head.

  • I can get an SR to my door step from my supplier for about $1928.00 guaranteed to have only about 40k miles on it. I can buy a t3-04 hybrid and manifold waste-gate and bov for another grand and tune it for 300 so about 3200 dollars and i can have a 340hp SR. That's where i would go with out putting money in the fuel system, I can put pull the ka and rebuild it not reinforce just rebuild the motor for about $270 bucks put $1200 into a turbo kit $400 for an aem piggy back $300 for a tune 340hp

Lets say you spend 1500 on an Sr, to TRY to replace the turbo for a bigger and/or better one... and tune. would the SR have more power...? HP? or Torque? PLUS an SR is about 2500 by itself... so already.. youve spent 4000 on the SR... all you need is about 2500 to make the KA rape an SR... all in all, their BOTH Nissan engines.. brothers dude.. not rivals... we should be talking shit to B16's or something...:)

  • @twistaj32 the Sr DOES NOT put out more hp.... the ka24 is an iron block, so it is inherently stronger then then iron sr20. since the ka is already in the car all you have to do is spend $2500 and u have 350rwhp. you have to first buy an sr20 and the parts to swap it in the car making it more expensive then the ka24de.

  • The SR20 is to me the better motor, but the KA24 is the stronger one. There's a reason KA24 is second in line to the 4G63 as world's fastest four-cylinder. It can take the boost like a champ.

    Depends on many factors, especially since turbos are about the flow, not the PSI, plus the KA24 has the torque and stronger internals as well.

    sr are square, cylinder bore = stroke.... higher rev

    Not only did you not watch the video (KA clearly won) but you didn't even read the title. It says KA24DET, T as in turbo charged. Naturally aspirated KA24de's are rated at 155 crank hp. You know what an N/A SR makes?? About 140 at the crank. I don't even have to resort to name calling to make you look like the fool that you are.

The SR can handle more than 400 hp on stock internals, I'd like to see KA do that. just saying its a shittier engine compared to the SR, it might have more power at its beginning state but it has far less potential.

  • @behzad101 a KA holds the 240sx quarter mile time record. It's second only to the 4g63t for 4 bangers for quickest quarter time. And actually there have been KA's holding over 500whp @30psi on stock internals the video is on youtube. I'd like to see an SR do that

  • KAs,SRs,RBs their all nissan...its all comes down to what your going to do with the car ...if you go Ka-T you might want to drag race due to the Torque it has, if you go SR then you might want to be a weekend warrior due its mild behavior on the street but also the abillty to kick ass when it needs to, if you go RB you have alot of money lol and you want to got REALLY fast with a powerful engine in a light weight car ethier way its ALL NISSAN AND NISSAN IS GOOOOOOOOD :D

  • Good luck finding a RB26 and when you do good luck finding parts. Plus after all of that is done, the install is a bitch, nothing fits right, the harness has something wrong with it. With all of the time and money you invest trying to be a skyline, you could have built a stroker ka, making it a 2.8 liter and looking at 500-700hp easily.The KA is the best bang for your $. Iron block, bridged mains, cheap parts, good power to torque ratio. KA all the way!

  • @supra9355 love the ka...but the 2jz and rb fit perfect in the 240s' My friends s14 has a 2jz wits nice and low and back against the firewall. Just depends on the install kit, my supplier in canada has an rb25 for 1500 and a 2jz for few more. I miss my ka though, i'm running a blacktop sr right it's ok I guess

  • @supra9355 thats why you do an RB25...also the RB26 is mainly mounted to an AWD tranny, more issues. The RB25 fits very easily, with some minor modification to the firewall.

All good motors Really comes down to how much money you have, Amount of effort you want to put in, high end power or low end torque.   • kadet built and tuned right willnot blow. you need to forged the full bottom end , arp bolts commectic gaskets . build a k 2.7 stroker boost it. the sr just cheap way to have stock 200hp motor then plan another 2k in upgrades to get 300hp. so a swap is 2k jdm sr, 600 fmu, anothe 1000 turbo upgrade. 250 wiring. 200

  • sr and ka. both motors are great! ka has an irn block which is great for boost! but the rods are weak.and the sr has an aluminum block, lighter but weaker... KA-T ted to blow. very easy. SR is better all around. stronger engine, produces more hp. KA-T sits at 235.. SR turbo sits at around 270. SR is better all around. reason why everyone swaps to SR.

  • I think people do the swap just so they can be JDM fan boys. It cooler for some reason to say I have an sr. I would never put a SR in a 240 either build the KA right for boost or RB/2J swap I dont beleive in taking out a bigger motor for a smaller one just so I can say I did a motor swap wich what alot of people do.

  • though the sr is smaller is has alot more power and can prouce and hold alot more power then a KA. its a good swap and people dnt do it just to say they swapped a motor. KA internals are weak. if you build and turbo the motor will blow eventually. waaaaaaaaaaay to much money to re-do all internal. ive seen waaaay to many turbo KA's blow. so its highly not recomended!

The drive shaft doesn't fit and thats gonna be like another 400-600 dollors... then you gotta buy an intercooler and all the extra turbo parts you need with is another 400-600 dollors... you might wanna get a larger brake booster... blah blah blah... bottom line is the rb26 is too powerful for the rest of the 240sx so you'd have to spend money on making sure the motor doesn't kill the car itself. No it's not gonna be like 10k but it'll be up there.

  • You're way wrong my friend. SR with 30 psi on stock s15 pistons = 434whp with a borgwarner. I've seen it. SR20s don't need internals to safely make the 400whp mark. You can read it in almost every magazine an sr appears, try a ka stock internals with that much whp and it will spit a piston right in the dyno.

  • lets see LS1 is 180lbs LIGHTER than a KA24DE and the RB25det is 80or more than a KA24DE

    the RB25 stock puts out 250hp and the LS1 stock puts out 320hp so hmm you do the math!! dont get me wrong we are saving up mula to buy a RB but when we put it in fer sure wont be stock

    reps to the LS1 stock or built best choice for power!!!

  • and thats just the basics not upgrading your exhaust or even clutch, i dont personally see anything wrong with a fmu thats what i used on my car, just a standalone really is the way to go for tunibility and longevitivity. so realistically it is worth it to just drive your car and save a extra 2 grand... a ls1 can be had pretty cheap nowadays with 6 speed ws6 tranny wire harness and ecu for aroun 1500-2000, thn sts rear mount turbo...lol... that would be sick tho

Great job with that ka I am going to be building one for my 1900 lb 1973 toyota celica race car. I know I know nissan in a toyota but power is power so yeah.   • well some of you have a good point and some who have shitty ones. let me settle it. ka's stock are 2.4l so obviously there is more torque. and the ka has an iron block (gay) but that does not meen it can hold more power. in the end it is the rods that hold the vast majority of it. the reason everyone loves sr's are they are easily modded all aluminum and people who have their cars on a diet like them because they are light. plus the fact they were only sold in japan :)

  • KA-T motors make more hp and tq than an SR almost always.because for the $3,000(Min.) for the SR you can build a KA to be better. I went on google shopping and found KA 9-1CR pistons for like $600, T25/T28 off an SR for cheap. cat back like $600, downpipe like $300. A no-name intercooler like $150, a shop or friend with a welder can make you charge pipe for $300 tops. A BOV $250(new) and that ends up to $2200 all the other pieces that I didn't think of can come out of the other $800 you have.

    SR20's are just an easier platform, more parts accessible, and you can put out the same kind of numbers. it depends on what kind of car you want to build, but SR20's are THE original turbo motor from Nissan. Before SE-R's and Pulsar's had them.

    Torque = useless when you're already at 70MPH and your car is as light as a Lotus.

    a custom built sr24det (same displacement to make it even) will smoke a KA-T with the same setup because it is a better revving and better flowing design. But both engines have their place and they both are better than anything you can put in a civic or a teg.

  • dude, read description, ka24 **DET*** vs sr20... he was pretty particular with the ka24 engine specs so i'm assuming he did the same with the sr20, and, in-case you don't know anything about nissan engines, unless its an sr20de****T***** ie SR20DET, it is NOT turbo, which makes a HUGE difference, and could have easily won the race with a gap that small.

  • dude, the 180sx (which it looks like he's dragging, if its an s13 silvia then same goes too) came with the sr20de engine.. he might not have put an engine in at all. if you do ANY research at all, you'll actually find that the sr20 was a much better engine than the ka24, whether or not you own it. even try googling sr20 vs ka24... an sr20det will destroy a ka24det any day. and sr20's accept mods a lot more happily. learn ur stuff buddy.

On top of that, the 180sx does NOT come with a sr20de, it comes with a ca18det. AND the s13 silvia comes with the sr20det. thats great that you think you know so much, but you are the one that needs to do your homework. i deal with these cars on a daily basis, i highly doubt you know more than i do.

  • wrong Mr. tech. 180sx's got sr20s in 91 and had them up through 1998. Silvia's have been imported to the states in hordes since the mid 90's (not legally) Also, its foolish to argue which car is faster in this video when you don't know their setups.

  • if YOU do ANY research you would see that the sr20 vs ka24 argument is HUGE. there is no solid proof that a sr20 is "better" than a ka24. What makes it better? What is "better"? KA24's have more displacement, and greater torque than an sr20. Therefore, ka's have a lot more torque than a sr20. And sr20s don't accept mods "better" than a ka24. its all in how you tune the car, and what you put on it as far as mods go. Learn your shit before you try and tell me i'm wrong faggot.
