I love kali its if you learn it well it can be applied from hand to stick to knife and even sword and it looks good to combine with other styles like jeet kun du muay thai and keysi.
I like the system & looks great but both gun disarm looks like needs improvement. And for your info, the Spanish conquerors where greeted with canon fires upon entering Manila bay. They were made by a man named Panday Pira albeit his canons where smaller than their European counterparts.
@zulfikarl but remember, the spanish enslaved you guys for 300 years, only the moro and the igorots weren't conquered. Your the dog of the spanis lols
That's irrelevant to the topic. Its already a long known historical fact. No need to repeat it. You should instead focus on your inability to accurately cite facts. I repeat, Silat comes from Indonesia not Mindanao. Moreover, it is gross ignorant to say that people in Visayas and Luzon only used sticks, small knives and wooden spears. For instance, Lapu-lapu and his men used the Kampilan in the battle of Mactan against Ferdinand Magellan.
@zulfikarl lapu lapu is a muslim, any kampilan used in the visayan and luzon region i gurantee you that, that cheif is most likely muslim. non muslim filipinos had no education in building good swords like the kampilan, so it wouldn't make sense for any anamist or hinduist to use it.
There is no reliable eveidence that shows Lapu-lapu is a Muslim. I live in Cebu. The thesis that Lapu-lapu was a Muslim chieftain is highly debatable. Muslims advance the theory that he is a Tausug named "Panglima". However, the more reliable findings suggests that he was "pagan", as was the chief of the neighboring island of Cebu (Humabon).
What is ur basis in saying that non-Muslim Filipinos had no education to build good swords?
@zulfikarl well, majorit of weapons i see such as the kampilan or the panbas or the moro kris is indeginious to muslims. there has been no artifacts or pictures of a kampilan belonging to a non muslim in visayan or luzon.
"This Philippine blade is from the lumad people in Mindanao in southern Philippines. Lumad refers to the indigenous non-Christian and non-Muslim peoples of Mindanao.
The blade is called panabas. The term literally means 'chopping device' in the local dialects. The blade is used both as a weapon and as a device in chopping off body parts in the meting out of justice."-Wikipedia
Pls check ur facts b4 posting. Ur publishing ur ignorance.
@zulfikarl also, the lumad were people who didn't fight the spanish. it was the moros, i'm not really into were these weapons came from, i'm into what people turned them into, for ex: even though the moros didn't exactly create the design, they created there own to the point where it is used as a expensive weapon created for the moros use of self defense, war and symbolic prestige. while the visayans used machetes like the luzon. the only good weapon was the spear but the moros already had that
"The kris or keris is an asymmetrical dagger or sword nowadays most strongly associated with the culture of Indonesia, but also indigenous to Malaysia, Southern Thailand and Brunei."-Wikipedia
Again, the Kris is not indigenous to Muslim Mindanao. It originated from our Southeast Asian neighbors of Malaysia/Indonesia. I hope this will settle everything once and for all.
@zulfikarl its been used and modified THEIR way for THE MOROS purposes making it indeginous...i'm not saying the actual kris or keris itself BUT there version OF THE KRIS is indiginous to them......
The Visayans were descendants of the Sri Visajan, a warrior class which ruled Indonesia and southeast Asia for centuries. Towards the end of the 13th century, they were defeated by the Madjapahits of Eastern Java. They fled Indonesia and settled in Central Visayan island of Cebu and the neigboring islands.
To say that the Visayans "lacked education to build good swords" is the height of historical ignorance.
You better improve your grasp of Philippine history. You are spewing erroneous historical fact in YT. The natives of Luzon and Visayas were not defeated because their fighting style was not effective. The were subjugated by the Conquistadores through the use of Catholicism. Much of Luzon and the Visayas, at the time, did not have strong religion. They were practicing various forms of "Animism" as compared to the strongly entrenched Islamic tradition of Muslim Mindanao.
Another reason for the success of Spain in Luzon and Visayas was the absence of a strong central government. Each community named Balangay (consisting of extended families) was independent from each other. They were loose tribal groups fighting each other. The "divide et empera" (divide and rule) policy of the Spaniards was so effective in Luzon and Visayas but failed in Mindanao due to the strong presence of the "Sultanate" which provided for a strong central govt.
@copypacercopypacer how many percentage sure u are? that moros are much more way better than visayan? thats da reason why big name visayan bloodline rise in fame like manny pacman and other champion boxers
@09092214584 they are only for sports while the moros had a good history of things. the moros were never conquered unlike the visayans and luzons who were raped by americans and spanish. the moros also had a higher in making weapons. like the moro kris and the kampilan a moro longsword, while the visayans had tiny ass machetes LOLZ.
@copypacercopypacer correction... visayan and luzon rulers are blooded royal and same with mindanao ones... da only problem with da visayan and luzon they are not united at that time unlike mindanao which is they are ruled by sultans. but in visayas region they are ruled by one leader with one island so theres a big diffrence with it. still Cebuano leader rajah lapu2 defeated da invaders in first wave of the attack by da spaniards.
@copypacercopypacer FYI.mindanao and visayas and luzon were brothers with thesame blood running thru there veins, so sad to say mindanao being da bloodiest part of the country for which filipino fight against his own blooded filipino brothers and get killed in da battle.i know and i hope this will end soon. i hate malaysia for whch i believe they are da one who supporting brainwashing and financing rebels terrorist in da mindanao for whch malaysia have interest in sabah. sabah belong to filipino
I wonder if this can be effective against Jiu Jitsu. Coz I've been watching a lot of MMA, and from what I've seen, nobody can survive without Jiu Jitsu.
I mean, if you take out the knives and weapons, just bare hand, would it be effective?
@ThiagoAlvesFan Very effective.... Training with a knife of stick just makes your empty hands work that much more effective. You become faster and much more accurate this way. Fillipino martial arts has it's own ground work as well. It is extremely deadly.
@ThiagoAlvesFan Any martial art only teaches basics. To me the person makes a difference, not the "art". Some people are perfect martial artists during a training or a movie etc... But when it comes down to reality, it's not only the training but the person.
Lot of "martial arts champions" get their a**es kicked everyday in the streets because fighting for your life and in a secured environment is totally different.
@Victortrotska Everything you said is so true. I'm sick of people posting videos which essentialy are vehciles for showing off. When fear kicks in a your heart is racing, all these fancy moves go out the window.
I boxed for years and half the stuff in the gym went out the window in the ring, so keeping that in mind...When I got into martial arts (Kali/JKD) I dispensed with the cfancy crap and kept it short and simple, basically boxing with strikes and locks, nothing to complicated.
For those who claim krav maga is the top martial art, here is some breaking news for you: krav maga is 60 years old, its a compilation of BASIC techniques taken from others, specially kali and silat. KM got a lot of theorical, practical and specially mchanical flaws. This means crap maga is the retarded son of kali and silat. Kali has been put to the test trough a millenium of wars and still prevails. Krap maga its just a gorilla beating a dummy and impresing regular persons.
@rileonv I studied FMA from private lessons mostly and group classes also for 3 years and loved the system especially being a Filipino.I have taken part in a 2 day training seminar with Itay Gil(tactical krav maga instrctr) and found the training educating and definitely worthwhile.Dude there's no need to put down other systems as each has something to offer no matter how small. This guy is also one of the trainers for the the Israeli commandos and various tactical units Israel has .. Peace
@Victortrotska Itay Gil's tactical KM system was designed for law enforcement/security/military personel. He goes through scenario training that shows options in do or die situations e.g. 3 opponents with 1 holding a knife, 9mm pointed in your back/face/side,assault rifle pointed at you,one on one knife attacks and in the more advance training(i ddnt do it) options to help you deal with and identify suicide bombers. There is a KM course designed more for urban survival not operational scenarios
most filipinos here in the philippines knows how to stick fight, they teach that in high school and college part of P.E subject but dont become masters.
I am a Filipino, I've been fanatic of Japanese arts like Aikido, Kenjutsu and the other art is Muay Thai. But I saw this art so lately and I don't think I can learn FMA anymore because I've learned those arts before. And to learn and master that art it will be only a dream for me. Great vid btw... FMA is so great and more powers those who learned this either Non-Filipinos or Filipinos...
@mistergrin Yes, why not? This is a promtionvideo of a german martial-arts school in hamburg. They offer this system to authorities and military staff. But you have to know that there is no unique hand-to-hand combatsystem in the german army. In most units there is not even hand-to-hand training, so the soldiers get their knowledge in public schools like that and train it off-duty. We also use wing tsun, jiu jitsu, krav maga and several other styles.
@geist41334 Well, as a Filipino myself, I'm just proud that a discipline that originated from my homeland is being recognized by both law enforcement and military personnel around the world, even though a lot of people haven't heard of such a system, and it's not a household name like tae kwon do or karate.
@mistergrin Yeah, it´s pretty new in germany and not as well known as Karate or other "traditionel" systems. Unfortuenatly there are only a few schools in germany that teach it. If i would have enough money and time, i would realy enjoy travelling to the Philipines for a year or longer to learn the basics authenticly ;) I had some training of a few kali-techniques in the army and i loved how flexible and intuitive it is.
@geist41334 Yeah, that's totally sweet dude! When you do save up, it is a good idea to visit the Philippines, Filipinos are known for their hospitality and they love foreigners for some reason, ahahaha!
@geist41334 And relax dude, I didn't mean anything by my first comment, I have nothing against Germans or any other peoples training in Filipino Martial Arts, in fact I'm for that! But I'm sure you realize that by now, hahaha!
@mistergrin Hey, i didn´t think that you are against germans or things like that ;) I just wanted to answer your question. Sorry if you got me wrong. Anything is cool ;)
@Brady2k10 U.S. Special forces like MARSOC applying Kali system. also both of U.S. and Phil.Marine Force recon uses Pekiti Tersia Kali. WWII Filipino Guerrillas in mountains and jungles using this in-case of running out of ammo (reason why japs can't penetrate the mountains and jungles). the scenario of Balangiga Massacre (Philippine-American war) blades vs Guns. 28 Flipinos KIA of course because of gunshot 36 American KIA most of them beheaded, 8 Died of wounds so do what you think?
@ihikhikhik well its a knife and survival give me a knife and say if i dont kill ill be killed, then you'l see me killing people with a knife, you dont have to be a kali expert to use a knife effectively
@Brady2k10 "well its a knife and survival give me a knife and say if i dont kill ill be killed, then you'l see me killing people with a knife" well thats a right point...
"you dont have to be a kali expert to use a knife effectively" im not saying this is wrong but its not correct.
@Mr96Freestyle I already gave you suggestion, but Im telling you right now. You're wanting to learn one from all kinds of bad reasons. Which is okay, I started Modern Arnis wanting to be a bad motherfucker and I ended up getting very humble lessons after lessons. Now Im getting good at it and I dont ever feel the show off. Im secure with myself. However Ive seen idiots years after years come to classes looking to do dumb stuff, not listening to anybody and ended up leaving cos they were not
feeling welcomed, because no one really agreed with their philosophy and they could feel it. This year there was this guy that refused to learn the karambit because he felt the blade was too short and claimed to train with 15cm blades. He refused to do reactive knifeexercises for exemple. Refuse to just block a knife attack and then just disarm the person, claimed that he would just stab him in the heart if he ever got there. Really feel you need a reality check. No that you wouldnt change but
this would make this easier on your instructors and on you if you go in knowing what to expect instead of thinking you'll be a badass within 2 weeks or that you'd rather want this martial art because it looks cool. I tell you what, why dont you private message me and we'll go on from there, Im kinda sick of the 500 comments limit.
@Mr96Freestyle So you want to learn martial arts yet you dont want to learn any other martial arts than a filipino one. Theres something wrong with your logic.
@Mr96Freestyle Its pretty stupid to just go with one art. Look at Remy Presas, filipino just like you. He developped Modern Arnis because he saw less and less people started learning it. He went and designed a new, safe and easy method of learning, getting rid of anything that was useless like dancing with sticks for exemple and added modern elements of self defense. What resulted is one of the most efficient and easiest martial art to learn. But he also practiced judo and others arts.
@Churchx77 You should learn anything you can get your hands on. There are better martial arts than others in terms of what you learn within them. But at the end of the day it depends what you want to do with them. If you're training soldiers, copeira isnt something that would be fitted. On the otherhand if you're trying to get a good work out and have fun, seems pretty fitting. Depends on what you're trying to get out of it. Apart from being filipino, why do you want to learn to fight?
@Mr96Freestyle Seems pretty fucking stupid if you ask me. If theres nothing filipino in your area then why not practice something else. People who practice martial arts do it for the pleasure of learning a science of combat, not national pride(or supposed, do you even have filipino citizenship?). And if you ever plan to start learning Arnis Kali or Eskrima, seems to me that having any background on any art would be a plus, would have helped me greatly when I started Modern Arnis.
@Mr96Freestyle Theres got to be something close to where you live. Have tried searching for Krav Maga or any non descript self defense of close quarter combat classes? If not you can always fall back on whats more mainstream like karate, jiu jitsu, taekwondo or even plain boxing. Theres got to be something.
@Mr96Freestyle Probably not, as shown in the video they seem to train only with military and more than likely law enforcement and private contractors. Dude, if you live in the LA area, you can easily find what you're looking for. Search for Malaysian or specifically Filipino martial arts which is whats practiced in the video. I myself practice Modern Arnis and can reckognize my training in this.
OMG!!! I miss my training! After training different styles such as Kyokushin, Shindo, boxing, jui-jitsu, San-DA, Muay thai... Kali is the most fun to practice! But that's my personal opinion. Nothing but respect for all styles! Love martial arts!
Very nice fellas! Great video all the way around.

Muslims advance the theory that he is a Tausug named "Panglima". However, the more reliable findings suggests that he was "pagan", as was the chief of the neighboring island of Cebu (Humabon).
What is ur basis in saying that non-Muslim Filipinos had no education to build good swords?
zulfikarl 3 months ago
@zulfikarl well, majorit of weapons i see such as the kampilan or the panbas or the moro kris is indeginious to muslims. there has been no artifacts or pictures of a kampilan belonging to a non muslim in visayan or luzon.
copypacercopypacer 3 months ago
@copypacercopypacer
Ur publishing ur ignorance.
zulfikarl 3 months ago

Stop posting irresponsible statement here in YT.
zulfikarl 3 months ago
@zulfikarl its been used and modified THEIR way for THE MOROS purposes making it indeginous...i'm not saying the actual kris or keris itself BUT there version OF THE KRIS is indiginous to them......

@copypacercopypacer
To say that the Visayans "lacked education to build good swords" is the height of historical ignorance.
zulfikarl 3 months ago
@zulfikarl
They were practicing various forms of "Animism" as compared to the strongly entrenched Islamic tradition of Muslim Mindanao.
zulfikarl 3 months ago
@copypacercopypacer
Another reason for the success of Spain in Luzon and Visayas was the absence of a strong central government. Each community named Balangay (consisting of extended families) was independent from each other. They were loose tribal groups fighting each other. The "divide et empera" (divide and rule) policy of the Spaniards was so effective in Luzon and Visayas but failed in Mindanao due to the strong presence of the "Sultanate" which provided for a strong central govt.
zulfikarl 3 months ago
@copypacercopypacer how many percentage sure u are? that moros are much more way better than visayan? thats da reason why big name visayan bloodline rise in fame like manny pacman and other champion boxers
09092214584 3 months ago
@09092214584 they are only for sports while the moros had a good history of things. the moros were never conquered unlike the visayans and luzons who were raped by americans and spanish. the moros also had a higher in making weapons. like the moro kris and the kampilan a moro longsword, while the visayans had tiny ass machetes LOLZ.
copypacercopypacer 3 months ago
@copypacercopypacer correction... visayan and luzon rulers are blooded royal and same with mindanao ones... da only problem with da visayan and luzon they are not united at that time unlike mindanao which is they are ruled by sultans. but in visayas region they are ruled by one leader with one island so theres a big diffrence with it. still Cebuano leader rajah lapu2 defeated da invaders in first wave of the attack by da spaniards.
09092214584 3 months ago

ThiagoAlvesFan 4 months ago
@ThiagoAlvesFan Yes... it just depends on the person
bloodrage008 4 months ago
@ThiagoAlvesFan Very effective.... Training with a knife of stick just makes your empty hands work that much more effective. You become faster and much more accurate this way. Fillipino martial arts has it's own ground work as well. It is extremely deadly.
Cryoc6 4 months ago 7
@ThiagoAlvesFan Any martial art only teaches basics. To me the person makes a difference, not the "art". Some people are perfect martial artists during a training or a movie etc... But when it comes down to reality, it's not only the training but the person.
Lot of "martial arts champions" get their a**es kicked everyday in the streets because fighting for your life and in a secured environment is totally different.
The greatest strength is in the mental one.

Krap maga its just a gorilla beating a dummy and impresing regular persons.
rileonv 4 months ago
@rileonv I studied FMA from private lessons mostly and group classes also for 3 years and loved the system especially being a Filipino.I have taken part in a 2 day training seminar with Itay Gil(tactical krav maga instrctr) and found the training educating and definitely worthwhile.Dude there's no need to put down other systems as each has something to offer no matter how small. This guy is also one of the trainers for the the Israeli commandos and various tactical units Israel has .. Peace
Rrrino43 4 months ago
@Rrrino43 Sorry for my ignorance but what does "tactical" krav maga instructor mean?
Victortrotska 3 months ago
@Victortrotska Itay Gil's tactical KM system was designed for law enforcement/security/military personel. He goes through scenario training that shows options in do or die situations e.g. 3 opponents with 1 holding a knife, 9mm pointed in your back/face/side,assault rifle pointed at you,one on one knife attacks and in the more advance training(i ddnt do it) options to help you deal with and identify suicide bombers. There is a KM course designed more for urban survival not operational scenarios

Wow, even the Germans use Filipino Martial Arts?
mistergrin 5 months ago
@mistergrin Yes, why not? This is a promtionvideo of a german martial-arts school in hamburg. They offer this system to authorities and military staff. But you have to know that there is no unique hand-to-hand combatsystem in the german army. In most units there is not even hand-to-hand training, so the soldiers get their knowledge in public schools like that and train it off-duty. We also use wing tsun, jiu jitsu, krav maga and several other styles.

@geist41334 Well, as a Filipino myself, I'm just proud that a discipline that originated from my homeland is being recognized by both law enforcement and military personnel around the world, even though a lot of people haven't heard of such a system, and it's not a household name like tae kwon do or karate.
mistergrin 5 months ago
@mistergrin Yeah, it´s pretty new in germany and not as well known as Karate or other "traditionel" systems. Unfortuenatly there are only a few schools in germany that teach it. If i would have enough money and time, i would realy enjoy travelling to the Philipines for a year or longer to learn the basics authenticly ;) I had some training of a few kali-techniques in the army and i loved how flexible and intuitive it is.

However Ive seen idiots years after years come to classes looking to do dumb stuff, not listening to anybody and ended up leaving cos they were not
Churchx77 6 months ago
feeling welcomed, because no one really agreed with their philosophy and they could feel it. No that you wouldnt change but
Churchx77 6 months ago
this would make this easier on your instructors and on you if you go in knowing what to expect instead of thinking you'll be a badass within 2 weeks or that you'd rather want this martial art because it looks cool. I tell you what, why dont you private message me and we'll go on from there, Im kinda sick of the 500 comments limit.
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Mr96Freestyle So you want to learn martial arts yet you dont want to learn any other martial arts than a filipino one. Theres something wrong with your logic.
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Mr96Freestyle Its pretty stupid to just go with one art. Look at Remy Presas, filipino just like you. He developped Modern Arnis because he saw less and less people started learning it. He went and designed a new, safe and easy method of learning, getting rid of anything that was useless like dancing with sticks for exemple and added modern elements of self defense. What resulted is one of the most efficient and easiest martial art to learn. But he also practiced judo and others arts.
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Churchx77 You should learn anything you can get your hands on. There are better martial arts than others in terms of what you learn within them. But at the end of the day it depends what you want to do with them. If you're training soldiers, copeira isnt something that would be fitted. On the otherhand if you're trying to get a good work out and have fun, seems pretty fitting. Depends on what you're trying to get out of it. Apart from being filipino, why do you want to learn to fight?
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Mr96Freestyle Seems pretty fucking stupid if you ask me. If theres nothing filipino in your area then why not practice something else. People who practice martial arts do it for the pleasure of learning a science of combat, not national pride(or supposed, do you even have filipino citizenship?). And if you ever plan to start learning Arnis Kali or Eskrima, seems to me that having any background on any art would be a plus, would have helped me greatly when I started Modern Arnis.
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Mr96Freestyle Theres got to be something close to where you live. Have tried searching for Krav Maga or any non descript self defense of close quarter combat classes? If not you can always fall back on whats more mainstream like karate, jiu jitsu, taekwondo or even plain boxing. Theres got to be something.
Churchx77 6 months ago
@Mr96Freestyle Probably not, as shown in the video they seem to train only with military and more than likely law enforcement and private contractors. Dude, if you live in the LA area, you can easily find what you're looking for. Search for Malaysian or specifically Filipino martial arts which is whats practiced in the video. I myself practice Modern Arnis and can reckognize my training in this.
Churchx77 6 months ago
OMG!!! I miss my training! After training different styles such as Kyokushin, Shindo, boxing, jui-jitsu, San-DA, Muay thai... Kali is the most fun to practice! But that's my personal opinion. Nothing but respect for all styles! Love martial arts!
