VstratO:thanks for throwing Darnell Hillman's name in there, one of the few (if only) San Jose State players to make it to the NBA, best fro of all-time with the Pacers.
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH man!!! what a great center he was. I saw Artis play many times in his ABA days he was always terrific
Artis, Dan Issel David Thompson Connie Hawkins still to this day some of the best players of all time.
Artis is one of only 3 guys to win MVP and Rookie of the Year same season.... just hangin with Wes Unseld and the Big Dipper is all........... those ABA teams were AWESOME!!! Dr. J & Doctor Dunk Darnell Hillman...... oh yeah great players
artis gilmore is an all around great person. when I met him at a jacksonville game we talked the whole game about life and basketball...very down to earth..moment I won't forget
Artis sure is soft-spoken and pleasant. In a book titled "The Greatest Big Men in Basketball History" Hubie Brown called him one of the"all-time nice guys." Seems like a fitting compliment
Loving Gilmore's style. This boy is cool, calm and collected, w/ great facial hair.
Chick: "Boy you've had a nice career, first in the ABA and now in the NBA..."
Artis: "Thank you very much."
BTW, let me note that this is the original and ONLY "A-Train" in the NBA. Andrew Bynum is dreaming if he thinks he's gonna be awarded w/ that nickname. I heard him on AM 570 claiming it. (He must've been hanging around Kobe too much, thinking he can decide his own nickname.)
I and my channel viewers appreciate your sense of bball purity. Your sentiment is reminiscent of Joel proclaiming, "I heard them call Zaza Pachulia 'The Big Z'. Zaza Pachulia?!... I'm sorry, but there's only one Big Z in Atlanta Hawks history, and that's Zelmo Beaty."
I know, lol. Quiet as kept, THIS is the player the current Lakers team wants him to model his game after whether they know it or not. Bynum's already having a hard enough time scoring the ball with Pau on the floor, might as well pad those other stats that matter-namely rebounds and blocks. Not sure if he has the work ethic or drive to do it every game, but time will tell...
A gentle giant.................

Ooh. Props to you and Joel for the perspective.
Big Z w/ averages of 21/14 in 1966.
1971 w/ the ABA Utah Stars: 23 ppg, 16 rpg, 55% FGs, Finals MVP.
One wonders if Zaza has ever put up similar numbers in a single game.
