Interesting how The great apostle Paul urges Love plus the gifts. In fact every gift is an expression of His love and power but what he wants is the deliverer to be filled with His love. So some have an appearance of religious piety but deny the power "dunamis" Others are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and boast and exercise their God given gifts as children playing with toys. Others walk in the power of God and see God confirm His Word with signs wonders and miracles.

First comes the first Adam, a living SOUL; and then the last Adam, made a quickening SPIRIT. This is God's principle of doing things! He starts off with SOULISH( prototype if you will :D) and finishes off with SPIRITUAL! What a wise God we have, SAVIOR of ALL men!!!

Be encouraged,folks and thank God that He has preserved the Truth and, once the Truth is known, it sets people free!There has to be a FALLING AWAY first,just as God has said so that He does not become a liar.The curse(SOULISH) must come before blessings(SPIRITUAL).Remember: "Howbeit that (was) NOT FIRST which is spiritual,but that which is NATURAL(fleshy/soulish); and AFTERWARD that which is SPIRITUAL( the SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS in the heavenly places we have been blessed with)1 CORINTHIANS 15:46.

Great video, John! The Church today is in the wilderness and there is a great 'FALLING AWAY' from the Truth( the same way that generation of unbelievers fell in the desert and did not make it to the promised land!).Even prophecy/teaching and preaching of the true gospel has ceased today, save but for a FEW men who God has preserved and is using to still preach the Truth! Only a few are preaching the truth today!

Dude 1 Cor 13:8 says in essence that were there is NOT love; prophecy, tongues, etc will fail until that which is perfect come. Faith hope and love...the greatest of which is love. It also says "forbid not the speaking of tongues" but do it orderly. And seek the greater gifts..i.e. prophecy. Brother you are hindering those who labor to enter into His rest, and you yourself will not enter in. woe to you pharisee and teacher of the law you blind guide.

If the "unknown tongue" in 1 Corinthians 14 is just gibberish, than why does verse 13 say that we should pray for the ability to interpret? Why would Paul ask them to pray to be able to interpret gibberish?

John also quotes 1 Corinthians 13:8 saying that tongues have ceased, but then does John believe that Prophecies have ended since that verse says that they too will cease?

@98nafets Tongues did cease for centuries until the 1800s and this false tongue returned to the church. That's why he (and I) believe tongues ceased. Prophesy, or speaking the truth before men, has yet to cease. I would think then, that Dr. MacArthur doesn't believe prophesy has ceased as long as it is biblical prophecy, i.e. proclaiming the truth of God. Prophesy is not some gibberish that is interpreted to say something that hasn't happened yet.

for the past year in my faith, i have sought discernment of 1cor. and now i have it and im so thankful for the gift of prophesy.

especially wondered what "everything is permissable, but not all things are beneficial" meant. but now i understand!! its almost 3 am.. but i am very happy.

MacArthur's use of the dog with the bone illustration is exactly what drove me from the charismatic movement. People want to see the move of God so much that they will manufacture it and ask all to accept it on faith. Rather than wait on the reality of God, charismatics manufacture an imitation to displace it and placate thirst with the counterfeit.

I"ve been praying for the Truth to be shown to me, trying to keep an open, teachable spirit. My whole teaching by the Pentecostal church has been opened wide and I am finding a lot of wrong teaching there. We are to compare everything we are taught to the Word of God, so we are not mislead. The Word says we are to STUDY to show ourselves approved..

As a former Assembly of God pastor, don't be discouraged. Bless God for the correction and wisdom He has brought into you life. You can and will probably use it to help others.

Amen wendee!! I used to be Pentecostal but now I agree with Reformed theology & Calvinism.
