  • This sucks

  • Lucas' father founded Pottery Barn. True story.

  • dude i saw this on mtv in like 1994 and it still rules. his beats are sweet!

  • my sister played this at her wedding in like 1993 lol

  • Thank You for Posting. Haven't Heard this Amazing song since 1993 or so. Awesome. :)

  • It's catchy- I'll give ya that

  • I feel lucky I could still experience the 90s, when the last good music was being made.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer Its all opinion. People who grew up in the 80s will tell you THAT was the last generation of good music. Same is true of the 70s, 60s, etc. Truth is, people are lazy. If you really get out there and LOOK, there's new music out there for everyone. Just because you don't like today's mainstream music doesn't mean there isn't anything underground that you can get into.

  • @vlcmdude

    "Its all opinion."

With the charts being flooded with the sonic vomit of talentless hacks like T-Pain, Lady Gaga, Kesha and all those homies who wouldn't know a good beat if it bit them in the ass, you can't really blame it all on opinion. Hip hop still had some good moments in the 90s, then definitely croaked by the end of it.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer I definitely agree that mainstream hip hop has seen better days, but there's more options than just mainstream. I thought the same thing myself before I started to dig beneath the surface. Take heavy metal for instance. I had assumed the genre died in the 80s with the rise of glam metal. But it turns out the underground scene is bigger than ever, all I had to do was look. I don't claim to know anything about hip hop, but I'm sure the same is true with this genre.

  • damn, dat Gondry.

  • Danish quality.

  • thumbs up if ur watchin in 2011

  • I remember blasting this on the subs back in the day! I still love it, People look at me when I play this and they're like..Whats that shit, And I just smile and say this is the Shit)

  • Leuk om deze nog eens terug te horen, helemaal vergeten. Coole clip ook!

  • damn i remember watching this video on vh1 i think every morning before school. those were the good old days. this is still awesome.

  • 26 people are flat out retarded.

  • Song was good, but the video blew my freakin mind back in the 90s and still does today.

  • 25 people have their lids on.

  • i sent myself here and i honestly don't care who sent you here

  • I'll never get tired of this song. Ah, the 90's. Blows this decade's music out of the fucking water!

  • If M.C. Escher made a music video...

  • hmm... so in this vid born the movie: Be Kind Rewind of gondry.

  • Michel Gondry @ 2:23!! The dopest music video director of our time.

  • A jass progression to a hip-hop beat? I can't believe how well they work together. This is the best thing since sliced bread.

  • @jkenn184 you're kidding , right ?..that was the standard in 90's hip hop !..

  • @blica1 The chord progression is a jazz one (listen to the saxophone intro). The rhythm and the lyrics are hip-hop. And together they sound fantastic.

  • One of the best music videos ever made, one of the best hip hop songs ever produced.

  • I've had bits of this song stuck in my head for years without knowing what the song was. Feels amazing to finally find it.

  • wow. is that the BILLY HOLIDAY in this song>?? All so seemingly seemless one takey!

  • @podcastshmodcast: Benny Goodman's When Buddha Smiles

  • Anyone know the song they are sampling?

  • song was ok when it came out. Props to him for shooting the entire vid in 1 take w/o editing due to financial constraints, wich is why you see him getting up fast as the camera starts to pan away to the next scene.

  • I've been looking for this song for almost 17 years! AT LAST!!! I could only remember the scat sounds--lol!

  • @englishgalmd Same here man!

  • ive enjoyed not liking this dorky ass song for about 20 years

  • Heard em talking about this on Giant Bombcast and thought I'd fire it up. Been a long time since I heard it. Still holds up. Way better than the crap being churned out these days.

  • @unoillnino I agree today's music is mostly "crap", but I wouldn't put this jam in the category of quality either. Non the less it is still a catchy tune.

  • @unoillnino it's really not.

  • The video, and the song, are both awesome.

  • Just spread the vibe kid!

  • I didn't know that was a white guy singing! Loved this song when I was a kid! Great mixture of old time music and new stuff

  • i can remember seeing this video on MTV

  • This video is done extremely well for when it was made, oh the days before the internet ruined everything.

  • good song,

i always thought he looked like a young bald billy crystal!!!

  • Even if y'all don't like Lucas or his lyrics, ya gotta admit.. these jazzy beats are slammin! I would take the instrumental track and throw some eletric acid-type sounds over it and make a sick trip-hop track.. matter of fact.. i think I will.. oh my sampler.. how are you my friend.. been a couple weeks

  • BrentalFloss coulda done this one. hell he even looks like him!

  • is this the dude from the she video

  • I also refer anyone who likes this to US3's Cantaloop. Was a hit around the same time, and also built using jazz samples.

  • @Jordashe That song was pretty good too, I agree.

  • never knew the name of this song till I was watching "cant hardly wait" couple days ago and a friend named it for me. I remember listening to this back in 94, but never knew the name till this day. Awesome song, great memories.

  • All shot in a single take. NO effects or edits.

    Great film-making.

  • Gondry is the most visionary director of our time.

  • @ShaneKarma376 right on man

  • @ShaneKarma376 Fuck yeah! I honestly think that this video is a precursor to the lipdub videos that are now so popular on YouTube. The man certainly is visionary.

  • Gawd,I remember this song from years ago! Love it.

  • If he would only tour with Snow and vitamin C, someone would make at least ten dollars off of that tour.

  • jono with tha lid off

  • swing is the thing.

  • Sweet Bluenote vibe!

  • This my jam!

  • ...looking for "to rap my world around you".....anybody??

  • Brilliant song, original, creative with an excellent video..Pity todays so called artists can't be as original instead of churning out the same shit, bland,"safe",brain numbing and boring crap we hear today..

  • Awesome!

  • A fun song and a ground breaking video - better a one-hit wonder than a never was.

  • @ProfessorEggflesh Yes it's a great track, and I thought as well that Lucas might be a "one-hit wonder." However, saying Lucas was a one-hit wonder would be like certain American rock fans who only know "Creep" and referring to Radiohead as a "one-hit wonder"... From his Wiki: "Lucas has contributed to seven number one records and many other high-charting singles and albums, and has helped sell over 40 million records, many going gold, platinum and multi-platinum."

  • absolutely real hip hop. the best5

  • a one hit wonder this guy turned out to be

  • @mrbrian711 'Spin the Globe' turned out to be more of a hit for commercials than a billboard hit. haha shame really. I thought the whole album was brilliant.

  • @mrbrian711

    not really

  • @jiovnxx what other stuff did he do?

  • @mrbrian711 I don't thk they did anything. Don't know why.

  • @mrbrian711 He is mainly a producer and songwriter for other musicians.

  • It's unique!!

  • this was my shit...

  • Mark Kermode thinks this is the best vid Michel Gondry ever made. And he rocks.

  • Does this qualify as Ragtime Hip-Hop, a distinct genre? Glad I don't have to move a piano today! Looks so hard in the video ;0)

  • I love this song!!!

  • 2:24 hello director of photography.

  • Hell yeah, 1994!

  • "come follow me around, come follow me now" no thanks. with creepy expressions like that, i'll stay back. great video and song though.

  • first ever electro swing tune. TUNEAGE

  • This song brings back many memories, but the best ones are of my best friend Jennifer, who LOVED this song! R.I.P. Jenn, I love you :(

  • i remember being about 12 or 13 when this was around, still such a great song

  • I was six when this was a hit but I still consider it a classic

  • all one shot no editing

  • Michel Gondry is a genius!!!

  • bought this CD 15 yrs ago cuz of this song. didn't quite rem the video tho. 15 yrs later, this song popped up in my head and i came here to look for song. wow!! first impression of the video was it's very Michel Gondry-esque. and wikipedia it...bam...it was directed by Michel Gondry. Someone belowed mentioned Be Kind. Rewind, and yes Gondry directed it, as well similar looking videos and movies like the White Stripe's Denial Twist, and my fav, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

  • @aztaska he makes only the best videos and movies ever! can't get enough of his work.

  • My understanding is that this vid was somehow done in one take. Am I correct there?
