Cheers. I tried splitting the difference and playing the A chord without the 1st finger and playing the rest open....sounds OK I guess.

Yes, you could play some sort of suspended chord. But I think the major suits the lyrics better and adds a little force, driving the tune on into the last line.

I think that you're right. It sounds and feels better with a major than a minor. I worked it out this way a long time ago and I've never thought of checking this out.

Yes, standard, capo probably 2. I think that JR actually plays the intro starting with the Em on the 2nd fret - regular Dm shape, but I worked it out like this and it's stuck :)
