whoa, to the guy who said this song has no meaning- its exploding with meaning! The song is a turn around- he starts out leaving- riding a bike, taking his loose change, sleeping on the ground. He thought couldn't make it ('backbone is paper thin') but then something changes everything- he has a crash. 'cold integrity' keeps him awake. he goes back to his diamond in the rough. handle bars to the stars to stay on track. he won't ever look back. The prosy version is so much less beautiful though.
