I have an 85 SVO. It's a race winning SCCA road racer. I also have an Eagle talon. I will say the SVO is a blast to drift around but the 4g63 just pulls and pulls. I did really work the 2.3 in SVO with the roller cam etc. I also have a 10 sec Ford street car so no hate.
i'm currently in wyotech and i own a 86 svo, and all day people bad mouth and bash the car because of its 2.3t 4 cyl engine saying oh its not a real stang its a 4 banger girl car, a classmate has a crx and its a ls engine with a b16 tanny and its turbo'd my mustang has a boport stage 3 head full assembly and front mount holset hx35w turbo and a stinger 44mm w/g. ate him up in first... lol
@brannon86svo id hope you can beat that, because that crx probably isnt that fast. you shouldnt use b16 trannies with turbo's because they are geared too low and LS motors are non-vtec and only produce 130-140hp in stock trim. it was probably running a t25 turbo too and probably didnt even make 200hp. and no shit you ate him up in first, mustangs launch a lot better than front wheel drive cars. go race a vtec-headed honda with a nice turbo setup and a ported head and report your results. hahahah
@savagexhaley14 i will do that. my classmate has an ek hatch with a gsr swap and a gt28 turbo. makes 345whp. but take it from me. he can't push much more boost out of it. as he is at 14 psi. me however i will turn my boost up to eh lets say 26 psi where i made 418 whp out of it on stock low end. i'll smash through every gear. his car is only 300 lbs lighter then mine anyway. he has a b16 tranny...
yup, and an unported head, your car on the other hand has a stage 3 ported head. i love mustangs and i love svo mustangs too. but a 2.3 just isnt gonna make the same hp/ci as a honda. simple as that. there are hundreds of k-series honda powered crx's and hatches running 10's naturally aspirated...
@savagexhaley14 yes, i know of a place in las vegas called hondoctors tuning. some of their cars are n/a most are turbo'd the n/a ones run mid 12's and the turbo'd ones run mid 11's to mid 10's
@igjoe2007 I drive mine (86 Jalopeno Red) daily unless it's pretty crappy outside. I bought it to enjoy it, not be a garage queen. I want people to see the SVO cruisin down the road and say, "whats that" or " I haven't seen one of those forever!!" The other day at a stop light I heard 2 guys next to me sayin, "I don't know, says SVO" the other guy, "You mean SHO?", "Nope, says SVO right there on the fender." I hope with people seeing them it will encourage more to hunt them down.
not to mention the first car to get the 2.3 turbo was the 83 thunderbird turbocoupe,,im looking forward to getting my hands on a 98-01 2.5 ranger engine and getting some stuff from BO-PORT,now thats a crazy site for pinto engines
@thunderbirdkid actually ford was doing 2.3t foxes (mustangs/fairmonts etc...) 79-81, but they were a carbed drawthrough and had a few issues that caused ford to take it off the market for a couple years, and develop EFI versions. I personally have a 1980 2.3t ghia, and although it doesnt make much power, its quite fun and I flipping love it to death! best of luck with you project, and hope to see some gnarly burnouts on your page ;)
I know a guy who's selling his 86 SVO for $4500. It has 72,000 original miles. Passenger side door does not work, the hinges broke and needs to be replaced. It needs a new paint job. What do you think people, is it worth the $4500?
Think I'll sell you my 1984 SVO with gutted upper intake, knife edged lower, rebuilt head, Ranger roller cam, Felpro 1035 headgasket, big VAM meter and injectors, k&n filter, manual boost controller, LA3 computer, stock mount chrome header, new tires, polished SVO rims, clean interior, good paint and more. Would sell it for less than 4,500 for sure. This is not B.S., if I see money, I'll sell it.
DAMN! Nice work! That's A LOT of money you put into your SVO! Why are you willing to sell your SVO for so little money?? I'm certain you can get more than "4,500" for your SVO, considering the condition it is in and all the GREAT aftermarket parts you've put in to it!
@foxsetup in a straight line 5.0's are faster but these are not straight line cars. these are race bred road racing cars to compete with the european touring cars like the bmw 325i back in the 80's
@MattDJ2 ya, but there are v8's running faster than that with and w/o boost. i love svo's and will hopefully own one soon, but be realistic. its not like v8s cant go that fast hahahahaha
@savagexhaley14 you are a retard... svo's have more top end because of their turbo then the 302. cant even call it a 5.0 since when you do the math it comes to 4.97 litres... and svo's weren't made to go straight lines like a lot of these girls want them for, no offence to blair he's got a fast car but it is not what they were built for...
@brannon86svo i know its technically a 4.9. wtf does that have to do with anything? and just because something has a turbo doesnt mean it'll have more top-end. theres a lot more than just that, that determines how much top-end a car has
Watching videos like this make me wish I'd never sold my '85 SVO....

@brannon86svo No. It was a '79 4-cyl turbo for sure. Maybe it wasn't an SVO but definitely the 4 cylinder turbo, 4-speed.

Totally agree, a mustang is a mustang regardless what engine your running as long as it's a ford motor under the hood!

stock for stock the 2.3 svo is almost as fast as a 5.0 ! pretty impressive
foxsetup 2 years ago 11
Exactly, and by adding aftermarket turbos and stuff makes them crazy fast.
