I've always wondered why they so often couldn't hear each other. They wasted so much time asking for repoeats. was it the studio accoustics or something?
Happy Belated Birthday Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hope you had a great time. You're one of my favorite actresses and I love your beautiful voice. One of the most beautiful voices of all time. Thank you for the memories you have given us in Rebecca, Suspicion, Jane Eyre, Letter to an Unknown Woman, September Affair and Serenade.
Even if both sisters, Joan and Olivia don't have relationship since many years ago i think they are both amazing, i will take Oliva thogh becuase he's a little better and the elder one :D
I love Joan and Olivia, it's not necessary to choose between the two. Both excellent actresses in their own right. What a shame they will take their feud to the grave.
Joan is so charming here. Anyone read her book 'No Bed Of Roses'?
The beautiful Joan Fontaine sensational in B&W movies and in color. (I always loved her Eyebrows and how she seemsto raise her left one also.) Even on her later years she was still radiantly beautiful. I'm Dumbfounded that she was not included in AFI's Top 100 Actor's & Actresses. She is overlooked and people who see her films are true fans and appreciate this Gem of a Person. Just listening to her voice tells you that she has a good soul.
It's no secret Joan Fontaine & her sister, Olivia DeHavilland, had been estranged for years.
But DeHavilland was one of the few, close female friends of the late Bette Davis, who, as many know, had her own feud with a "Joan" going on for years--her co-star in "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?," Joan Crawford (though the feud was overblown, which Davis enhanced over the years for entertainment purposes).
I loooove Joan!!!! I'm so glad to know she's still alive! She is a great actress, I hope she's doing well, and I think she's better and more beautiful than Olivia
Wondered if they were gonna bring up the fact that she was born in Japan, interesting that they still got it. "considered the fairer of the two?" that's pretty harsh! Both were gorgeous. Both still alive in 2009, and still not speaking to each other :(
When she asked if she was the fairer of the two, she meant her coloring. Joan generally had blonde hair in her films, while Olivia had darker brown hair.
I'm trying to pass this along to all you Joan Fontaine fans: check out "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour": "The Paragon" to see her wonderful performance in a little suspenseful gem from early 60s TV. (It reminds you of 'Christabel').
Ah, it had to be that comment the last lady said that caused the grudge between Joan and Olivia. She said Joan was the more fairer of the two.Just kidding but still sad they haven't spoken for decades
I alway liked Joan and Olvia equally they were great actresses,it's a shame they never got along. I liked their thriller movies,Joan Fontaine in "The Witches"(aka:"The Devil's Own" and Olivia DeHavilland in "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" I've watched those movies so many times i can recite the dialog.
Definetly she is in my top 3 actresses of ALL TIME,Ingrid Bergman,Audrey Hepburn and Joan Fontaine. LOve you Miss. Joan Fontaine, loved her performance In Rebecca.
There is a Royal Doulton figurine named Rebecca that really to me is a replica of Joans face. it's very stunning. I bought it so i've seen it for real and it's Joan.
I don't think she looks upset when they ask her if she has a sister in show business...they never mention Olivia's name. I think she looks a bit upset because she knew at that point that the panel knew who she was. She really wanted to fool them and go all the way to the end of the game.
Boy, i love Joan (very charming clip here) a great talent in all genres, and i love What's My Line - if anyone has any other What's my line clips i will praise you
I've always wondered why they so often couldn't hear each other. They wasted so much time asking for repoeats. was it the studio accoustics or something?

Joan Fontaine is Olivia De Havilland's younger sister. Joan & Olivia haven't talked in years due to some sort of disagreement.

Btw, when Dorothy asked if she were the fairer of the two sisters, was she referring to hair color or beauty?

my opinion was the hair color; however i thought they were both blonde. Olivia may have been darker haired though.
