@MajicTrix527 Thank you. One love. I have to thank all of the people that helped create this masterpiece! N@s changed the game with this album. You can feel the emotion in every single track and it never grows old. I compare this album to wine, it just gets better with age. Keep it righteous. You can only be limited to what your mind tells you.
I HATE nas... don't get it twisted, but a long time agp, he was my favorite rapper, actually my first favorite rapper... it took me a long time to find dj free versions of these tracks... but now Illmatic is still the #1 fav album.
Challenge: Nas is forever being criticised for not releasing albums of the quality of Illmatic. Just say we will given the task of making the closest record to the undeniable masterpiece by compiling 10 post Illmatic Nas songs on a make belief album. We will title the album: The Artist. My first track suggestion for this album would be 2nd Childhood.
What songs would you guys put on and what would you title would you use.
@Chase627 As far as making another illmatic using post-illmatic tracks... i would suggest "Nas is Like" and "Take it in Blood" and "I Gave You Power" and "Your Da Man" .... any other suggestions?
@Chase627 1. Doo Rags 2. Nas is Like 3. If I Ruled The World 4. One Mic 5. Purple 6. Queens Get The Money 7. Road To Zion ( Only collab with another artist, as had Illmatic) 8. I Gave You Power 9. Hero 10. Take it in Blood These tracks were only ordered in what I thought of first.
illmatic is dope but pre-illmatic is on a whole another level of ew shit.
"nas will prevail", "number one with a bullet", "everything is real" "represent (demo)" which i think the beat sounds 10X better then the one on illmatic.
i will take any 4 of them songs over "1 time for your mind", 1 time for your mind don't level up the the rest of the songs on illmatic.
nas was at his best in 1991-1994. "it was written" ppl did not like much because nas got on that "mafia-rap" shit.
i dont think soulja boi and all that other shitt aint nottin like this dude here..he is from the streets and talks about the ishh that goes down in the hood ..he do not glorify it like soulja boi or lil wayne ...thats what make it ill people can relate to his poetry.
PACKIN' LIKE A RASTAH INA WEED SPOT, VOCALS'LL SQUEEZE GLOCKS, EMCEES EVESDROP, THO THEY NEED NOT TO SNEAK, MY POETRY'S DEEP, I NEVA FAIL, nas's raps should be locked ina cell, it aint hard to tell.. illmatic the greatest hiphop album of all time
Maybe the absolute high point of hip-hop, period. At the very least a top 5 album.
The vibe alone of this album is better than the listening experiences of most albums these days. This was back when an album wasn't just a bunch of disposable joints centered around the hit single. When you didn't sort through a bunch of songs on itunes. When 5 mics in the Source meant something. When fans discussed lyrics and cared that their favorite rappers could spit.
This video is so real it is amazing. Thats whats missing in Hip hop today. No wonder New York State of Mind was damn hard,Nas was living a REAL fucking life. No fronting or faking in his style back them. It just goes to show you how much hip hop has changed for the worse. Plus when guys do talk about real shit they whine about it like Lil Wayne. Nobody comes hard with their raps anymore.
Illmatic is the best Rap & Hip-Hop Album of all time!!! Better than Ready To Die, and All Eyez on Me disc one, better than any rapper has ever put out. The 40 minute LP was a masterpiece from production to rapping, only one collabo with AZ and this shit was crazy good, so good that none of his following albums could follow the amount of high praise, and aclaim no matter how good they were. s0 good that the source gave it the first ever 5 mics to a rookie. Crazy shit, real shit thats fo sho.
@getoharmony23 u trippin now i'll admit illmatic is one of the greatests rap albums LYRICALLY but overallall eyez on me is WAY better than illmatic because all eyez on me has better beats, hooks, more flavor 2pac,s DELIVERY is WAY better than nas delivery man u cant compare illmatic to all eyez on me as an OVERALL ALBUM but illmatic was great LYRICALLY its a big defference
Memory Lane is definitley at the top!! All songs are great. its crazy watching this. I wonder if they couldve imagined the success illmatic was gonna have. to this day i can listen this cd all day.
thats probably exactly the way i would put it, except it really means nothing. the only songs that stand above the rest are probably it ain't hard to tell and ny state of mind. other than that it's equality
Im not arguing but i personally think It aint hard and represent are the best on the album. The reason why Ny state of mind isn't my fave is probably cause im not from NY lol.
u dont gotta be from NY. i grew up in downtown LA and i had that state of mind growin up. imagine seein ur own brother shot doin his hustle n all dat shit growin up. just so me, his lil bro dont gotta eat canned food dat nite. it was hard in my early life expecially my preteen years, i was stick up kid. but we got out. n NAS just layed it down to the fullest to the point where peeps like me can relate to like ny state of mind and lifes a bitch
I made that list a month ago and its completley different now... i will never stop listening to this shit lol 1. Halftime 2. Ny State of Mind 3. Represent 4. It aint hard to tell 5. Memory Lane 6. One time for your mind 7. The world is yours 8. lifes a bitch 9. one love ask me a month from now and it will prolly be the exact opposite of this

I know this is a special week for all biggie fans but I am a hip hop expert and nothing any other rapper has done has touched me like Nas esp. Illmatic.
what makes illmatic have longevvity is because of his lyrics and it was so real the best album that came out 94 ten tracks straight fire classic for real no skips just play straight through thats what a classic album is
these new rappers have it made, nas has always been the truth, and always will. The new rappers are not poets most of them dn't even make sense. "So far ahead of my time my parents havn't meet yet" Quote by Big L, Nas was ahead of his time.
Yes, the hood knew it's gonna be classic because when Nas does his thing he's so credible and like Q-TIP said: his lyrics it's just a pure poetry and behind him there are producers like Q-TIP who hooked him up with one of the illest beats in the history. The combination of those people, on top with Nas made a hugh history step! This music is infinite and timeless
actually he was 20 about to turn 21 but dis is crazy tho you see what age does to you he changed so much now its unbelievable.I respect what he is doing now its cool but he really need to get back illmatic,it was written days he need to just give me 1 more album like those and he will definitely be the best dead or alive in my book .But yea you right its insane he came out so young and made the best album ever made
alrite but im not talking bout dat back in da days he made much better decisions as far as choosing beats and stuff like dat now he just be having da worst beats of all-time but he still da greatest of all-time tho
you gotta realize it aint even a choice thing anymore. it's like the matter of dollars people wanna sale things. hip hop aint even the same as it was. it's a big thing, and people try to make life careers off it. it wasn't like that back when. a beat is crazy money, crazy time spent in production. DJ Premier or Dr. Dre have busy schedules so to get those top notchers is even something, and to get their best is even harder.
I believe that if you care about real Hip Hop, that it is essential that Illmatic is in your collection.
Incredible album, timeless beats and rhymes with some of the illest producers ever, it represented a time that is lost, it represented East Coast coming out hard and hitting and not letting the G-Funk era take over, it represented a time of skills and love for the rap game.
u could tell Nas came straigghtttt off the hood while filming this lol.. damn.not sayin he forgot about the hood but, he speaks and acts differently now.. u still # 1
RIP to his mommy...I can't even think about my moms dyein...damn I know one day it's going to happen but aleast I'm ready...one day ima have to listen to that Nas song he made to his moms and ima cry my eyes out.
In 1994 this nigga made me believe Hip Hop was the shit. I remember i was in love with "Life's a Bitch" and this Chick in School said Nah Son "One Love" is the Illest track. I wnet home and lisen to one love and "I been a fan Since Genesis" The Realest i ever Heard spit on the Mic. 21 Dun Salute!!!
i know what ur saying, but all great things must come to an end...I wish Wu-Tang would go back to the Enter the Wu days also, but of course they do shit like 8 Diagrams now...NaS grew up, he's doing more political stuff now, he's still ill as fuck
ye everybody's like "Nas new style is far from Illmatic" ofc its that way cuz he looks forward as he said on Stillmatic intro. accually Hip hop is dead and Untitled could even be better than Illmatic.. not in poetry, but in political way and nowadays Nas spits more trueful things. he been there n done poetry, now he wants to give this world sumthin else and ppl need to accept and respect that.. Nas still the best, it was only Nastradamus that failed (still.. its betta than most of the new rap)
the new school rappers of today piss their panties when they hear this.

im not sure if illimatic is the best album ever but enjoy every song in it. i think Nas is the best rapper alive

It is, it was in the top 20 for "must have album's of all time" list next to Prince, The Beatles, MJ and all them other guys.
I think Cassidy's 2nd album should be in there too..dude's punch-lines are crazy! Cass is a damn cannon!

Nas Is Hiphop savior

these new rappers have it made, nas has always been the truth, and always will. The new rappers are not poets most of them dn't even make sense. "So far ahead of my time my parents havn't meet yet" Quote by Big L, Nas was ahead of his time.

illmatic= The Thriller of Hip Hop.
Life's A Bitch was not in the track-list because that was a last min song and they was trying to hurry up and put the record out.
AZ wrote his part to the song on the spot which is cool because it would had took years for Lil'Wayne or Jeezy to make a verse that ill and real.
worshipgod16 3 years ago
didnt nas write AZ's verse....the last time i checked AZ aint write nas ver but nas wrote his
KingLooseCannon22 3 years ago
Hell no!
Nas don't even use all them big words that AZ likes to use!
AZ was called the "Visualiza" and his lyrics he starts off saying "Visualizin the realism of life and actuality
Fuck who's the baddest a person's status depends on salary"
That aint nothing Nas would write about..sorry but they don't have the same flow.
worshipgod16 3 years ago
AZ was speaking on how the world is ran on money and Nas was speaking on how his life changed.

This music is infinite and timeless
ooollgaa 3 years ago
History ina makin' right there. Making a top 3 all time greatest album, at the age of 19, is just insane.
nikko111111 3 years ago 2
actually he was 20 about to turn 21 but dis is crazy tho you see what age does to you he changed so much now its unbelievable.I respect what he is doing now its cool but he really need to get back illmatic,it was written days he need to just give me 1 more album like those and he will definitely be the best dead or alive in my book .But yea you right its insane he came out so young and made the best album ever made
jaybezzy3 3 years ago
he can't go back to the illmatic/it was written days. he's not a 21 year old living broke in QB. i don't think people undserstand that.
J2theMillz 3 years ago 3
alrite but im not talking bout dat back in da days he made much better decisions as far as choosing beats and stuff like dat now he just be having da worst beats of all-time but he still da greatest of all-time tho
jaybezzy3 3 years ago
you gotta realize it aint even a choice thing anymore. it's like the matter of dollars people wanna sale things. hip hop aint even the same as it was. it's a big thing, and people try to make life careers off it. it wasn't like that back when. a beat is crazy money, crazy time spent in production. DJ Premier or Dr. Dre have busy schedules so to get those top notchers is even something, and to get their best is even harder.

this album is incredible... four years young when it was released but now i listen to it almost every week
tomafornian 3 years ago
I believe that if you care about real Hip Hop, that it is essential that Illmatic is in your collection.
Incredible album, timeless beats and rhymes with some of the illest producers ever, it represented a time that is lost, it represented East Coast coming out hard and hitting and not letting the G-Funk era take over, it represented a time of skills and love for the rap game.

i know what ur saying, but all great things must come to an end...I wish Wu-Tang would go back to the Enter the Wu days also, but of course they do shit like 8 Diagrams now...NaS grew up, he's doing more political stuff now, he's still ill as fuck
vlad0717 3 years ago 2
ye everybody's like "Nas new style is far from Illmatic" ofc its that way cuz he looks forward as he said on Stillmatic intro. accually Hip hop is dead and Untitled could even be better than Illmatic.. not in poetry, but in political way and nowadays Nas spits more trueful things. he been there n done poetry, now he wants to give this world sumthin else and ppl need to accept and respect that.. Nas still the best, it was only Nastradamus that failed (still.. its betta than most of the new rap)
jamaicalove9999 3 years ago 2
