  • this is great! good job on dev

  • amazing sounds and animations, good job!

  • and the animations are just perfect!

  • What an amazing yet simple UX-oriented app!

  • Where'd you get the sound effects? Really great, suits the app great.

  • The one thing I'd ask for is the ability to sort by score OR name. Otherwise, mighty fine.

  • Nice and simple.

Can't really complain since free is free but one suggestion I'd have is having separate banks for different games. Otherwise, nicely done.

  • Very well done. Just because the primary purpose of an app is relatively simple, doesn't mean it can't be made to look beautiful and have well thought out UI elements. A lot of devs could take more than a few lessons from your creation. I'll be adding it to my iPhone and iPad ASAP.

  • It sounds like you're using a sound from the game Trainyard when the app starts. I hope it's licensed for you to do this... ?

  • @youngnam Oh! are you actually Matt Rix? disregard my silliness... thanks for making awesome apps!

  • @youngnam hah, yep :) I made this in a rush, so I reused a lot of the sounds from Trainyard :D

  • Looks very polished and fun to use. One question, though-- it looks like you can only keep track of one game at a time, is that correct? I have ongoing games with a few different groups of friends and family members, I'm dreaming of an app that would make it easy to keep track of them all.

  • @MVHK100 yeah, only one game at a time unfortunately, just to keep things super simple.

  • Also... A countdown timer would be a great addition.

  • SLICK! I'm about to download it, so I don't know if you have it do this or not... Can you prevent the device from going to sleep for the duration of your game?

I think it looks great, and it seems really intuitive... If I had to suggest anything I would say you could also have the name rectangles vertically scale to match the vertical height you define with the outer grey boxes, floating the names in the center of the rectangle.

  • @ReadeMoore Hmm, yeah I'm not sure if it'll sleep or not, it might if you don't touch it for a while. Interesting name box suggestion, I'll have to try that out! :)

  • Nice work. But does this have internationalization support? For folks without English names?

  • @dsyu nope, I didn't want to complicate it. I figure most people can either just choose whatever letter they want, or they can even make their name blank and just go by the colour.

  • Love the interaction. The grey settings buttons feel way too big for the UI, though! That bugs me a lot but pretty much in love with everything else. Especially love all the transitions!

  • @wemayfreeze yeah the grey buttons are that big to make the center area a square, because originally I was planning on making it work in multiple rotations, so the gray would have made more sense then, hah.

  • Great work, mate. I'd wish my bathroom mirror looked like that so I could review my day while brushing my teeth / shaving...

  • That's beautiful... Any chance of seeing this on Android? I was looking on the market the other day and the current scorekeeper apps are useless.

  • @BeachedWhale129 yeah that's definitely possible... just need someone from Google to send me a dev device to test it on ;)

  • @ElectricGrandpa so any idea of an ETA?

  • @BeachedWhale129 I dunno... probably a couple days after I get an Android device, but I don't have any clue when that'll be.

  • this is just amazing. has beautiful UI. congratulations. really great job. keep up the great work. a shout from brazilian fan. (=

  • So fun. Awesome work. Only UX criticism would be the choice for the sound icon. The current icon is used for signal strength almost universally (albeit sideways).

  • @NICCAI Hah, yeah I got a bit lazy on that one. I've been meaning to change it but haven't got around to it.

  • @ElectricGrandpa no worries - thanks for the amazing app.

  • I, too, would love to see this on Android, even for a price.

  • Since you build it in AIR, are you planning to release it for Android?

  • Awesome App!!! Excellent UX, excellent UI and FX!! Congrats!!

  • +1 for an Android port.

  • When you hold down the "+" button to increment rapidly, it should hold for two or three clicks at certain intervals (say, at +5 or +10 points).

  • @mattlycra that's a great idea

  • Nice UI decisions. I like the delayed sort feature. Found you from an @jasonfried tweet.

  • Nice work!

  • Like it. Would be good if it included a timer too for time-limited turn-based games.

  • +1 for android port since android supports AIR apps

  • this is great!!

  • A few questions.

    1. Since it's in air, it shouldn't be too hard to get it on android. Are you looking to put it on there?

    2. I think the one thing it's missing would be an option to change the increment by which scores are changed. Many games use only increments of 5, etc.

    3. Any chance of this going up on github opensource? I'd loove to take a look inside this baby. Totally understand if that's not an option though.

  • very nice! what kind of platform did you build it from? (cocoa/air/etc?) and where did you get the SFX from its awesome!

  • @bebensiganteng SFX are made custom, it's made with Adobe AIR (ie. AS3/Flash)

  • @ElectricGrandpa wow nice performance! which version of AIR did you use? were you using CS5 or FlashBuilder? and what sort of software did you use to produce the SFX? sorry, hope you don't mind with all of these questions, just wanted to learn, thanks!

  • awesome! ironically, it looks most like a wp7 app.

  • Sound icon looks more like a Wifi symbol... otherwise, looks like an awesome app, good work.

  • This is awesome!

  • Sweet lord, those are some beautiful animations!

  • It's beautiful. I want all my apps to behave with that fluidity.

  • wonderful

  • This looks really great, downloading for iPhone right now. You should consider adding a timer/countdown that is something that my family and I always turn to when playing games.

  • Shouldn't you be using the native iOS convention when deleting list items? Ie. swipe left on an item to bring up a delete button? I would never have been able to guess the double tap.

    Awesome app though.

  • @bjzaba yep, good point, but to be honest, the bulk delete was mostly an easter egg for me to use while testing, there's no reason a "real user" would need to delete a bunch of players all at once.

  • @ElectricGrandpa It's more the fact that I would immediately try that if I wanted to delete somebody as opposed to going through the menu as it's the default behaviour of most list views on iOS. It's always a little jarring when I come across apps that haven't implemented it. Small nitpick, but seeing as the rest of the app is so great I think it deserves that attention to detail.

  • @ElectricGrandpa And I'll add that I almost never use the swipe delete for bulk actions - just for deleting one or two items. It's just a common convention on iOS like command+C or command+V.

  • This is so badass!

  • That is the most beautiful UI I've seen in some time. Great work. You should be charging for it!!

  • Just had an idea whilst watching it again - how about letting people "record" a musical tune with the Easter Egg, and their "jingle" gets played when they take first place. Would be very cute.

  • @BernhardHofmann very cool idea!

  • Dude. Seriously. I am soooo impressed. That is just jaw dropping gorgeous, intuitive, fun, everything stunning.

  • Oh, just read the other comments. I'm gonna get this for the iPad right now.

  • Incredible app. However, I'm curious why you chose to develop on the Playbook instead of a device like the iPad that has 40 million users. I would have bought it if the was on the Apple App Store.

  • @Vinodnj1978 The poster just stated that you can download this for iOS now. Google for App Store Scorekeeper xl

  • I have no use for this but its still amazing design! Bravo

  • Well done! I am very impressed!

The fact this is a PlayBook App becomes a detail among this interface so amazing.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing :)

  • Turns out "Yondy" is a name.

  • thats amazing ui

only thing i thought was off - the sound icon made me think of wifi. only when you said its sound on/off i made a connection to a speaker.

  • thanks for making this buddy, i love it

  • Only on Playbook? Not iPad?

  • @MGuniverse on iPad very soon.

  • @ElectricGrandpa Awesome! :D

  • @MGuniverse FYI it's out on iPad now.

  • @ElectricGrandpa I bought it when it first came out for iPad months ago. :D

  • @ElectricGrandpa I would cry tears of joy if you could be bother to make it on Android as well ;)

  • Very impressive attention to detail and fluidity. A very basic / simple app with none of the polish could probably be coded up by an experienced dev in a few hours... Curious as to how much longer it took to take this from prototype to "WOW"?

  • @psimpson009 You're absolutely correct. I created an early version of this (with basically the same features) in an hour *while* my friends were playing a game. On the other hand, creating this and getting it polished took almost two full weeks. It's crazy how long polishing and tweaking takes.

  • I'm totally downloading this.

  • VERY cool. Love the UI.

  • wow really great work! very sweet UI, something I'd expect from a paid, or "official" app. If I ever get a playbook I'll dl this!

  • This is BEAUTIFUL! Any chance there's an iOS version? Or does anyone know of something similar for the iPhone? I've tried a bunch on the app store, but none even come close to how awesome this is.

  • Wow, that is nice. Very good job.

  • Please tell me you've got more apps in the pipeline, this is a brilliant UI.

  • wow man -- fantastic job with the UI and flow -- love it!

  • Lovely UI! :)

    Really good job!

  • Very well thought out. Kudos.

  • That is a really nice UI

  • Very nice! A simple idea implemented beautifully.

  • Very sensible and clean UI. I've been looking for something like this for my iPhone since I got it. Add a timer mode and you've got a premium app.

  • Impressive!!
