In the new movie, Barbossa impersonates a British captain in search for the fountain of youth, to get revenge on black beard for sinking the black pearl, killing its crew, and forcefully making Barbossa cut off his own leg to escape. In the end Gibb's has the black pearl in a bottle on a beach and Jack shows up. So basically Barbossa's Black Pearl was ransacked and bottled by Black Beard.

@1337Ninja3000 He didn't impersonate a British captain, he was a privateer for the British. Privateer's were employed by kings to attack foreign ships, or more specifically, ships belonging to enemies of the crown.

Barbossa is KING. (Look, people, he wasnt "evil" to start with. The curse drove him crazy. If you watch the extras, you learn that Barbossa was in a poor family and ran away. He hoped to be an honest merchant sailor, but the hard times drove him to piracy. In POTC-3, you see a changed man who even put his own life in danger to protect Elizabeth. The only reason he abducted her in POTC-1 was because he believed she was Bootstrap's child. She was the right age and had the gold. She was stupid then
