  • jim morrison is the old, ian astubry was the new voice of rock.

    i love the cult!

  • if youre gonna replace mr. mojo risin, you cant do any better than ian astbury!

  • Better than Queen + Paul Rodgers.

  • I think Ian does a great job, he doesn't really try to copy Jim, and does it his own way, which is cooler I think.

  • Sfigati!!

  • The Doors were always Ray Manzarek's band, first and foremost. And wow, Ian Astbury pulls this off pretty damn well. Morrison was great, but he's been dead for decades. Haters need to get over it and be glad that Manzarek found a great frontman.

  • An insult to Jim and John densmore. How can this band have the gall to call itself 'The Doors' Have Manzarek and Kreiger have no shame or integrity?

I actually went to the show and enjoyed it. But don't insult basic intelligence and go under the name of 'The Doors' why not call your self the Jim Morrisson karaoke band.

  • fantastico

  • i disagree with ians haters.. this is beyond natural, lol theres some kind of super natural connection between jim and ian. its more than similar looks and voice its the attitude. even in ians music with the cult there is still a strong touch of jims influence. and i think jim would enjoy this.

  • fricking joke.

  • @welshvauxhall1968 quite funny ,karaoke night in english boozer...or on shooting stars whe vic reeves does the "club singer" game.

  • i'm open minded to this i just don't think it sounds too great. but i like that they aren't trying too hard to just hack it out old style. ian seems awkward in his performance... maybe in a normal live situation he has time to loosen up.

  • I think this music sounds horrible... I loved Jim and I love Ian but, this music sounds like a scary carnival. It doesn't rock that's for sure!!!

  • @BelaLugosi1967 "sounding like a scary carnival" i think that's what the doors was trying to do in the first place.

  • @Knukleheada scary carnival while on acid lol

  • Man, he sure puts Kilmer to shame.

This is our chance to hear the Doors again, and it's cool to see Krieger. Ian looks and sounds great.

  • good recognition on the jeff martin thing

  • wow.. they finally got a bass player after all these decades

  • Baloney! I saw the Doors live. Are you kidding? I heard the Cult in the 80's without benefit of seeing what Ian Astbury looks like and I thought, "Doors on meth" I heard the similarity in voices but he even looks like him. Wierd.... but nice! What the heck.

  • ian astbury is the wrong guy for the doors

  • !SO good Asbtbury match great with Doors!!

  • Ian sounds like Jim. Ian is really good here. No one beats Jim EVER. Only thing that bothers me a bit: he looks like Jim. I like someone doing their own thing but hey, this is good. Good.

  • yeay, yeah, yeah...... yeah

  • What the hell is thiis crap?

  • I like the Doors and the Cult. He is about the only singer out there that could carry this off. It's good. I just think he should not have cut his hair like Jim's.

  • pfff, quelle mascarade

Jim avais deja ete decu de l attitude commercial des autres membres du groupe , rien n as changé .....business go on

  • Here they are - The DOORS .. duh. Evrything but the (Baby) Light my fire intro goes wrong after that presentation!

  • No One can replace Jim, but Ian wants to show is respect for Jim and The Doors. I give him kudos for that but it will never be the same. Ian had his thing and Jim has his thing. Not too bad and Ian just looks so much like Jim.

  • 76 people dont get it

  • This is totally offensive and an utter disgrace. I love the Cult and The Doors, but this is just repulsive, unnatural.

  • @pmss68 sorry but your just wrong. i dont know any other way to put it.

  • @pmss68 ...dearr child ,, your too young to understand... how precious tho ....lol

  • @pmss68 This is so funny. I was a kid when "Light My Fire" came out. I loved it, and loved the Doors. But, dude, they're just a rock 'n roll band. And Morrison was just a singer. Interesting, narcissistic, immature and self-destructive. Honor his memory, fine...but, please, he was not an irreplaceable godling.

  • Astbury is a GOD!

  • Holy fuck, Tommy Wiseau's fronting the Doors now!

  • Check my version, I think it is almost as good as this one

  • 76 people could not open the Doors and break on through to the other side

  • Love Ian Astbury!

  • the nearest to the Doors you are ever going to get, so just enjoy it.

  • DOORS WITHOUT MORRISON??????? WITHOUT DENSMORE????????

  • yeah!! yeah!!!!....yawn. sucking on jim morrisons brain.

  • To each his own. I'd rather see a Cult reunion.

  • @brentcox LOL! Ha ha, that's funny dude. I wouldn't mind seeing a Cult reunion myself, although if it were possible I'd much rather see an "original" Doors reunion.

  • Wow! - not Jim no, but still more than worth going to see. Just a shame Ian hasn't the beautiful subtlies that Jim had.

  • I wonder who found who first....?

    Ian hear about the gig......

or did the survivng DOORS always have an eye out for that guy.....

in the 80's....someone once mentioned to me that Ian was like a Morrison....

and I am a fan of both groups....eaqually....

  • Nadie remplaza a nadie!!

  • Hey!!!! people are arguing about one great singer replacing another great singer in a great rock and roll band. All that matters is that we hear great rock and roll and not Justin Beiber singing with Lady Gaga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • there was more to jim then a few well placed whoos...and yeahs! these people just dont get it!!! ughhhh

  • i think Val Kilmer did a better job!

  • Who is really ruining the sound is the bass player.

Honestly, Ian is the one who really keeps it together talking about the sound.

  • can hardly hear the guitar at all

  • The say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but in seeing this makes me more sad. I've seen Beatles tribute bands before, but ALL the members were different. Maybe that's what's bothering me here. The guy's got a good voice, but makes you miss Jim more!

  • Hey where's John? I like his jazzy drumming more than this drummer's "harder" style

  • ian is the perfect jim

  • Ian has strong nature and native motifs in his work. they also look and sound very much alike...but Ian is the better singer. there is no doubt that he was certainly inspired by Jim.

Ian doesnt have Jims body moves, and adding improve lyrics was Jim's style too, not his. Ian also knows little about neitzsche, as can be seen in his own works. Ian is a singer, Jim was a philosopher. aint sayin its good, aint sayin its bad. just saying thats how it is (but i do like this :)

  • the only guy i have seen that looks exactly like jim is john morrison from wwe not a big wresting fan ne more but no matter how u looked at him at ne angle he looks exactly like jim this guy on look at the face and it not really close a little but with the song ur mind can take over dont trick ur self and he doesnt look like him

  • When I first sen him with the Cult I always said that he reminded me of Jim Morrison. Look at his videos when he does fire woman and she sells sanctuary. I think its his style and charisma. And years later I hear he was on tour with the Dorrs I couldn't believe it. I was right. I guess the Doors saw what I saw.

  • The resemblance to Jim Morrison is erie, wow! That was awesome! I think Ian Astbury has to be the closest thing to the "real deal"... spooky

  • i cant choose between this and the older eddy vedder clips vedder sings them as if its a pearl jam track and i love that but never thought i'de be so impressed with a full on impression of jim this is a great performance ... a "jimpression" (lol sorry)

  • I hate tribute bands. Having said that...I can't see anyone being able to do this except Ian Astbury...I don't think anyone else on the planet could do this and be credible w/o trying to be a Jim Morrison clone.

  • Comment removed

  • ian is just being a replacement for the "doors"..he never intended to be Jim...give him a break he did a great job...

  • the doors ? without morrison and densmore ¿¿¿?¿?¿ WTF¡¡¡¡¡ they must be very hungry to keep playing

  • @lotus2d Densmore checked out due to "tinnitus"

but, then some other issues arose that seemed personal between him and the others.

in the end, they had to use the name riders on the storm v. the doors since he had rights to the name as well...i think that was the deal. there is one of he with ian and the others on you tube, i think it is back door man

  • im sorry jim my idol and god but iv always seen a bit of you in ian i guess Ray and Robbie saw that too he is really good but not good enough. xxxxxx

  • excellent ian! but I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate that fucking organo!

Stupid mf... ruin the video! sounds a shit!

  • excellent ian, i haaaaaaaaaaaaaate but that fucking organo, stupid mf... ruin the video! sounds very very very bad!

  • stop bitching and just listen to this tribute. jim may be dead but ian astbury is just trying to show his appreciation for the doors and morrison and is getting the kids of today interested in the talents of the doors. so shut the hell up and just enjoy this.

  • @WhoMadeWho33 . You may think I am dead. LMAO

  • @WhoMadeWho33

    Well said!

  • Did he really have to dress up as Jim? Don't see how that was necessary.

  • @xashx24: He is paying tribute to his hero.

  • @HarleyRachele If he didn't sound like a lounge singer, I would say this is a reasonable response, but the man is an abomination. And where do we draw the line between flattery and identiy theft?

  • @xashx24: Abomination? Really? No offense to you, I do see your viewpoint on this situation but do look closely. Ian does look a lot like Jim here but he always look like Jim, but he wasn't a knockoff of him. As I recall, Ian left The Doors to "focus on his own music and legacy". I don't think he is trying to be Jim at all. No one can replace Jim and he knows that. Please don't call him an abomination because he isn't and a lot of people would agree with me. Try listening to some of his stuff.

  • @HarleyRachele I see your point and I'll look up his music. Replacing a lead singer is just a delicate thing, just look at Alice In Chains, etc....

  • @xashx24: I see. Alice in Chains should've just disbanded after Layne died. William Duvall just can't match up to Layne's intense voice.

  • @xashx24 I'm not sure Ian is "showing his appreciation". He's just doing his job. And a good one at that. There is no reason the Doors shouldn't choose a new singer, one that complements their sound. It's unreasonable to insist that the rest of the band give up their brand name/identity that they worked so hard to create just because Jim Morrison would not control his appetites and his destructive habits. We need some perspective here, people.

  • Good stuff! Ian and this re-working does bring something to the Doors table IMO

  • Doors members didn't do or accomplish shit for years and then they decided to cash in on Jim by casting a wanna be into the band. Manzarek must've needed a fuckin brain transplant.

  • astbury fits perfect for the band!

  • *****

  • Was it also mandatory that he cut his hair like Morrison??

  • i like the idea of the TRIBUTE.. to jim

  • Ray should have gave a shit here and used some vintage equipment and at least tried...Still sound ok but what if???

  • They should've gotten Glenn Danzig to be thier lead singer. I could easily picture him singing a bunch of old Doors tunes. lol

  • yeah yeah yeah!!... i dont like that shit!

  • Comment removed

  • hmm...well im a fan of jim and i also like Ian. but i DONT like Ian doing Jim....

simply because, he aint jim. nobody is. let the dead rest for christsakes...

  • @BELL12366 You're absolutely right! Well said :-)

  • Lame. Just does not work. It's the little things. For one thing, you have to get rid of that synthesizer. You need that shitty 60's organ. This sound is too refined, the Doors had grit when Morrison was there.

  • who was jim morrison?!

    Ian rules!

  • This is painful.

did Ray and Robby blow away all their money and this is some lousy attempt to make a buck?

  • OK, this ain't half bad. What works on this Doors tune is the flat-out blues belting, great with Ian's voice - and more in his natural, strong baritone range than a lot of the Cult stuff where he tries to sing in more of a low tenor range.

For more 'melodic stuff ("Touch me") I think the 'waver' in Ian's voice is distracting. Jim (RIP) could be melodic without that constant waver on the end of every single phrase. Just different singers!

  • fuck...he has an awesome voice.i didnt know about him till the slash album.definitely the best vocals.

  • @biggy484 check out "electric" by the cult

  • This is supposed to be me. LAMO .............WAKE UP !!! This is not me !!!! Run to the bathroom and lift the toilet seat !! Let the fluids flow all around !!! What are you going to do about it !!! What are you going to do about it !!! Flush him down the shit hole. LAMO

  • @TheLizardKing1967 Are you fkn nuts? I see you post a lot. Get a grip- You're NOT Jim! & fk you! They chose Ian & he did a good job! Ian does belong in The Cult though. Soooo glad they are back together. Just saw them (Again) GREAT fkn show.

  • @WENCHY101 LMAO. WAKE UP !!

  • you can hear his voice qualities better here than in many of the cult performances...

  • Jack Kolber is better and looks like him too

  • Sounds so awesome with a bass player! Not that it didn't sound good with Ray's bass organ parts but, this gives it a good whompin' boost.

  • he says ''yeah'' more than ozzy osbourne with OCD

  • THIS KIND FREEKS ME OUT..but wow such talent!~!!! loove the cult and ian astbury well when i first saw the cult i was like is that jim????

  • check out the videos from jimstidham of Ray & Robbie a few weeks ago in so.ca with Dave Brock from Wild Child handling the vocals...he did a amazing job as well

  • Check out my videos shot recently in so.ca. with Dave Brock from Wild Child handling the vocals...thy're under my jimstidham. He does a fantastic job as well

  • Over Does IT!

  • Good for Krieger and Manzarek. Morrison most have been many (mostly great) things to them, but he also left them at at time when they were arguably still at their creative peak. Anyway they (especially Krieger) had a central role in writing the songs so I say fair enough if they want to play them and even call themselves The Doors (though I read they cant do that anymore). Ashbury does a good job too. Why bother comparing?

  • @TheDaddyCokes I think Ian Astbury did a good job! I do like him best in The Cult though :)

  • This is fantastic. Even though all the original members arent here,Ray and Robbie kill, and Ian does well enough,CELEBRATING the Doors music. Why do great groups have to end cause some member ODs,quits or dies? And not just the Doors. Like Big Brother should have got another Janis/Like female singer 40yrs ago and kept that magic alive. Where does the law say "This, or any band has to have THESE exact 4 or 5 members forever? ROCK ON DOORS,SKYNYRD,NYDOLLS,SEX PISTOLS.

    GreatMusic Is GreatMusic

  • Sounds great!

  • hes not bad

  • Nonbody replace no one!!! Jim is gone ! The Doors today are a Tribute band to the wonderful existence of Jim Morrison even with 2 original members. And I do appreciate a singer able to get close to the way Jim expressed himself...Ian astbury ... good job!

  • @MarciaDVL two original band members and you call them tribute band, jim would turn in his grave, jim would not have had the impact he did without the band.

  • @MarciaDVL They should have grabbed Jeff Martin of the Tea Party.

If you don't think that guy emulates Jim Morrision freakishly well you haven't got a brain.

  • ray and robbie u still got it but the singer isnt that great but i rather just here two play please find someone new

    RIP MORRISON

  • @2893sine LOL! Like the other guy that tried & sucked! At least Ian did a great job.

  • It's okay and Ian does a fair job but, as much as I'll get slammed for this, I just wanted the movie The Doors and can't help but feel even Val did a better job, VOCALLY as well as looking like Jim, and he pulled off his antics, it kept the Doors vibe. I'm old enough to have been around for the real Doors. Ian is too abrupt and doesn't carry JM's vocal endurance and passion. He's good, it works, but uhm....meh.

  • Very much loved it........ great job well done........... hope they stay as long as they can playing for us.............. we will follow... Love you Jim! Where ever you are.

  • this guy sucks........ the doors it doesn't exist anymore.... jim morrison was the doors..... and anybody else...

  • @1525RAFAEL Soooo when Bon Scott died- AC/DC should have just quit??

  • laughable.. FAIL.

  • However, they could have just as easily gone the route of recreating themselves with a new sound and NOT try to recreate the original Doors experience. Just a personal choice.

  • To all you naysayers...the almighty Doors themselves chose Ian Astbury to replace Jim. I think they would know better than anyone whether he's a good fit or not. Hell, he's been channeling Jim since the early 80's. He was the obvious choice, if their goal was to recreate the experience. It's not like he has to deviate from his style much to do it!

  • I have no issue with The Doors carrying on doing gigs and recording albums..I just don't understand why Ian Astbury has to make an effort to look and sound like Morrison.

Astbury is a decent vocalist..They don't have to come across as cover band.

  • @qbc176

I commented the same some time ago and they jumped at my neck...

  • @xtappas Really?...I don't understand why,it's a good question and its true.

It's not a knock on either The Doors or Ian Astbury.

I guess some people are hyper sensitive to any constructive criticism...Cheers.

  • @qbc176 Yeah I was surprised too...I think anonymity makes some people hostile, anyway it was good to chat with a sensible person, have a nice day....

  • Como no fui a verlos cuando anduvieron por Argentina !!!! X:D

  • The original members could figure out better hairdos. Ian's a pro. Cool show.

  • Fucking awesome!! Astbury is such a good fit, nobody better...except maybe Jeff Martin from The Tea Party...

  • Ian Astbury is the Best Jim Morrison

  • Good song...I just hate the fact they used a real bassist and Ray didn't use a bass organ. That was a trademark of the doors.

  • he does a great job with the doors, better signing than how he sounds with the cult

    hugo

    the fireworks factory

  • Val kilmer,,, is the Best Jim!!!

  • fuck you ian astbury

nobody better for this song like jim morrison

ian is just a fag who thinks he is jim , but he had his head in his ass

he is not a rebel like jim.

  • Blasphemy !!! They only do it for the money .. its ludacris

  • @clickswitchh Ludacris is a hiphop performer; ludicrous is the word you are looking for.

  • a reasonable stand in for Jim

  • The Cult is a good band, let me say it like this,Seether,a band who constantly rips off Nirvana(my favourite band EVER),now, that is more of a disgrace that what Ian is doing here,Ian is doing this as more of a favour than anything in my opinion

plus the cult sound nothing like the doors,so hes not ripping anyone off

  • Ian does not need a "ride" to be along on. This is a compliment to Morrison if anything. I am a poet myself. If anyone performed my poetry in a live situation, I would be honored. Ian is a huge doors fan himself. He's not trying to be Jim. He is accomplished enough himself to not be needing a "free ride". He is in awe himself at Jim Morrison. And I am sure he was greatly humbled to be given this opportunity.

  • This guy is a parody.

  • ian is just a copy cat! copy cat! copy cat ive said it!! copycat

  • @lightseemsdim cult piss on doors

  • Only two people could step into Jim's shoes like this. One is Astbury, the other was Hutchence (if he was still around).

  • this guy is trying to hard to be like morrison, and personally i think its cooler when ray plays bass with his left hand.

  • I love ian astbury in the cult...but nobody can replace jim..its just not the same.

  • singing about dead cats, funny his voice sounds like the one of a dead cat 2

  • He s actually good...

  • Lame .

  • i tryd just now watchin it again and that dude is tryin to be jim not himself and its gay

  • @lightseemsdim Kinda cool you say that man you should watch the Cult, he is definatly himself rockin' out to a new style of preforming (to him that is).... Along with the Cult it was more the outlaw image that went with it, this just has a vibe going and he definatly feels it! On top of that there's a lot of pressure on him to take the possition of a legend.

  • @lightseemsdim "that dude". hahaha Ian Astburry, "that dude" is A LIVING LEGEND. google him.

  • @lightseemsdim actually have you heard of the band the cult? wow hes a legend, not some "dude"

  • fuck this...not the doors this is greatness mixed with a faggot

  • This dude kinda sucks. Too bad, i really wanted to like it. Weiland is definitely the man!

  • Ian Astbury has the jim

morrison looks and the voice, haha amazing R.I.P jim morrison legend

  • Really Good Version!!

  • The keyboard sounds like crap.

  • YayAW

  • similar to jim ?

    depends

of what you are looking... if you look suprificial, everybody can be similar...

    ... in some words...

    please don't say that things

... noone of that distorted "copies" is similar to jim... not visually, not as person

  • Actually Scott Weiland's version of this is better I think.

Weiland REALLY nails Morrison's vocal on this tune.

  • Scary how Astbury actually looks VERY similar to Jim.

  • Sounds good to me

  • nowhere as good as jim

this guy sucks according to jim!!!

  • "According to Jim"? He's back from the dead? That's news to me!

  • sounds like mr mojo

  • sin jim no es lo mismo

  • I like Astbury's voice and his work with the Cult and I think he sings the Doors songs well enough. I just don't get why he had to put on a Jim Morrison act, for example the haircut, the clothes, the stage presence etc, its seems a little bit ridiculous to me, I'd prefer him as himself

  • I love The Cult, if you really watch closely, even as The Cult, he has a lot of 'Morrison' in him...moves, sounds etc... just a big influence for him would be my guess.

  • @BellaDonna826 yeah i always thought of the Doors listening to the Cult. kindred spirits i think. of course impossible to cover Morrison no matter what without appearing to copy.

  • @xtappas thats the whole point you idiot.!!!!!

  • @lordtopwood

Thank you Sir for your kind words, it shows that you are truly civilized and can partake in conversation using strong arguments and not just empty characterizations.

Excuse me dear lordtopwood if i have offended you by expressing my thoughts so boldly and please know that I am not a native speaker of the English language, only a lowly student.

May the Gods smile upon you and divine light guide you!

  • Damn he's good. Nuf said.

  • VERGOGNA!
