  • Another singer from Carolina was interviewed by the Guardian - he also talks about home and how he misses Carolina. Google "Jonathan Wilson misses the blue, blue grass of home" & Guardian. It's interesting!

  • No place on earth is as perfect as your hometown. Be proud of where you are from. damn proud to be an American

  • A great song. Of all the covers on here I think Dek Lovell's version is one of the best, give it a try!

  • 82nd Airborne choir brought me here. Hooooah!!

  • im 21 and i love this song

  • I've always loved this song, but only recently began to fully appreciate how beautifully written it is.

  • holy crap...what a whistler! :)

  • I first saw this concert on the BBC when James first album was being released on Apple records...he was amazing...I bought the vinyl album and have worn it out and recently have his first album on cd from the USA...such an incredible artist..love the album...Mike in Market Drayton, England

  • Greatest Song by the Greatest Man <3

  • I lived for a short while as a teen in North Carolina and it still holds a magical place in my memory. This song perfectly expresses that feeling.

  • @irenicum I never lived in Carolina, but this beautiful song has always represented a place I would have liked to have ended up. A place I miss now.

There ain't no doubt in no-ones mind that love's the finest thing around... whisper something soft and kind...

You don't know me, but I love you. And I love James.

  • James Taylor is perfection plus.

  • See, there's a reason James is surrounded by such beautiful woman. It's the calibre of character he has that attracts them. There ought to be more guys like James.

  • @mkraft1212 haha true...he's playing good for someone who is stoned

  • haha James kind of looks like a young Roger Federer here.

  • i htink he should have kept the whistling intro, and developed it more

  • Pure Magic -- Cheers

  • Hes got those bitches MESMORIZED!

  • Lots of hot bitches in the audience, I wonder if ol james hit any of that

  • how do you write a song with more purity than that, the voice, the gutiar.. every single note was deliberate and smooth..an absolute professional...un fucking believeable he can still do it just as well

  • James has always been - and always be - the most beautiful of men. Evertime he sings - I cry. I have no control over it.

  • such awkward stage presence yet it will move you like nothing else

  • @MarkAndrewMusic I love his awkwardness. It's genuine and adorable.

  • Always think of my favourite cousin.

  • he still looks like woodie Harelson

  • @dedlock he looks like the guy from cash cab.. or maybe the other way around lol.

  • im loving this song i gotta go to carolina

  • beautiful, in NC now...............

  • A most wonderful, entrancing song. James Taylor is without doubt one of the greatest songwriters the world will ever have. One of the greatest song MAKERS of all time. Like it did then, and now, and forever after, his music will stand out and just hold us. He has MANY songs that are like this unbelievable song, Carolina in my Mind....poetry....being homesick. Or perhaps just lonely for the familiar - that which is dear to you. Universal principle, in a song. Thanks James. Music of the ages.

  • I was thinking about going to see a friend in NC today, I got in the car and this song was playing the same moment I was thinking of that friend. Just saying, great way to hear this song for the first song.

  • grew up in NC , in the military for most of my life ,now it's time to go home and I couldn't have a better place to go home to .the most humble intelligent people in this world ,and believe me I've been to every port and seen a lot a countries ,THANK YOU CAROLINA nice to be home

  • Dad used to play all these classics when I was younger. Never admitted to liking it but fifteen years later Im listening to it non stop.

  • @eagaphil01 Same here. Thank you, Mom for making me listen to this on long road trips to Nana and Papa's. James Taylor just sounds like home.

  • @eagaphil01 thats cuz its great music bro

  • Strange for me. I was born in Chicago, lived till I turned 5, lived in India till I turned 7, moved to Atlanta with my dad and his wife till I was 21, lived in Charlotte for 5 years till I was 27, and finally moving back to Atlanta where I have stayed since 1999. Yet, the Carolinas give me the most memories even though it was a rough adjustment on my part. James is right and I still have those day dreams of Carolina.

  • when i was in daycare i used to fall asleep at nap time to all james taylor's hits. this is one of the favorites.

  • INCUBUS!! lol

  • James Taylor=Epic

  • Beautiful and in August, I am going to Carolina, not in my mind but to live. I will be listening to this song on the road.

  • One of the best songs I ever heard. What a gift to be able to create such music.

  • He has more hair than he does now but what a strait fantastic song, a double positve has never applied to literature so this song is fantastic!

  • 18 People have never gone to Carolina in their mind

  • eu amo esta musica;;me lembra dos meus 18 anos ;quando ouvi pela primeira vez ;;com meu amor ;;numa noite estrelada

  • A far superior version his own composition .Who needs the over the top production that Apple Records gave this wistful song and composition??? The bloated overdubs were probably done when James had left the studio...( I'm willing to bet he went "bananas" on hearing the final mix !.). It'd be interesting to hear the original recordings from those sessions, minus the added instrumentation . The Warner Brothers sessions got it "spot on" with the "Sweet Baby James" sessions,..and the rest.

  • these times of playing a guitar and singing are gone.... and i already miss them

  • Imagine..one man, one guitar...simply amazing. I read a commentary a few years ago that said something like this: The two musicians who mostly helped the nation recover from the turmoil and confusion of the 60's were James Taylor and Karen Carpenter.

  • @kilolimahotel its a shame that he endorsed such a predictable failure in 2008.

  • @statepaid I KNEW IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME SOMEONE BROUGHT THAT UP - OBAMA HAS DONE MORE IN 3 YEARS THAN BUSH DONE IN 8; SO BUSH AND HIS SLAVE OWNING, BUSINESS PARTNER WITH TERRORISTS FAMILY IS THE FAILURE AND JAMES KNOWS THAT - TOO BAD YOU DONT , YOU CLUELESS S O B

  • @kilolimahotel

I'm sure you meant the 70's.

  • Really didn't listen to him seriously, but there was a time when I was turning my life around and that guitar and those melodies and voice brought a lot of peace to him. I could be rollin down the road and singing a long and it was like a hymn, it helped my spirit settle and it was good to learn that lesson. Thank you James.

  • The entire audience is blown off Peyote

  • I love this Man and his music ! he's still In North Carolina ! you can move away but there is no other place to want to live but in North Carolina !! and you'll be back , just like James Taylor !!

  • I'm in North Carolina on an exchange program. I love this place. =) God bless North Carolina

  • did he have a few screw ups at the start?

  • @certainkill94 I think he was just warming up for the song while talking to the crowd, since he was planning on starting with the whistle intro.

  • @jbs06e He still does this between songs today while he talks to the crowd...I guess to keep you guessing at what song he's playing next :-)

  • @tjm514 good to hear brother

  • God bless North Carolina ,wish I had never moved ,and God how I miss it

  • a little screw up at 3:19, kept on rockin' it

  • 2:18.....what a beautiful woman

  • aahhh, i love james.

  • wow. i looove this song. it is my favorite song, and im 12! usually 12 year olds like kesha or what ever and usher, but no. i like the oldies. my favs are the beatles, james taylor, and carol king. when i was younger, my mom would sing me this song at night. a couple of months ago, my uncle died, and at his wake, they had a slide show of him, and this song and youve got a friend played. i was in tears. he will be missed. Luv ya james taylor! <3

  • This song makes me want to go to carolina...and mexico too of course.

  • 2:42 Sacagawea?!

  • @boondockscar He said hit me from behing LOL

  • One of the purest whistles I have ever heard. Beautiful voice.

  • James, you're wearing a green sweater vest, but we forgive you cause you sing going to carolina

  • What happened to his hair???

  • @dickvisa must have stayed in Carolina !!

  • im 25 and i oppose todays corporate driven bs, theres no real music anymore, regardless of different generations. the fact remains, the SPIRIT will never die!!

  • if i had a dollar for every time i listen to this song on youtube i could pay my internet bill and have enough money left to go to my favorite on earth, N. Carolina.

his voice matches the beauty of carolinas perfectly.

  • There's lots of beautiful places in the world. The drive thru that part of marshland where coastal Georgia meets South Carolina is one of them. It is inspiringly beautiful for miles and miles especially as the sun is going down. Been many years but i still go there in my mind for sure

  • 1:29 = "OMG I hope I get to blow him after the show! "

  • @iceman8067 ROTFL until my stomach hurt. Touché, definitely...looks like she was filmed with Vasoline on the lens of the camera.

  • @iceman8067 "rarely is one good at captioning photo's"....you have done a fine job.

    \

  • @iceman8067 That is so disrespectful. You should really keep those kinds of comments to yourself.

  • @MyQuesnel

You're the girl that blew him after the show aren't you.

  • @iceman8067 same thing at 2:19 haha

  • @iceman8067 1:30 = "I hope he sings Fire and Rain while I do it!"

  • @iceman8067.. hahhahaha fucking gold

  • @mydogblue1 Yes he is well, he and his wife are now expecting their 2nd child. They came back home to KY in 2009. But every time I hear this song I remember back then. Hope your son is safe and happy as well =)

  • That man can most certainly pull off a sweater vest.

  • thumbs up for the epic whistling introduction

  • I live in England but have grown up with JT for the last 30 years, what a voice!

  • 2:17

  • My son lived in North Carolina for 2 years away from home here in Kentucky. Being my only son and the baby of the family, when he left home it really took it's toll on me. I played this song many many times over while missing him so badly. Finally I was able to take a flight and go visit and the whole time in flight I was singing this song in my head <3

  • @HOBZ2U I put my 19 yr old son on a jet in Raleigh NC, knowing he would be in Iraq within a few days. Two tours later he is out of the militay and going to college. I'm a man, but when I walked away that day, I was in tears all the way back to Danville Va. Not one song could have help me that day. I hope your son is safe and happy, and you as well.

  • I visited North Carolina earlier this year and as soon as I got in the rental car, I heard this song. I screamed, jumped in my seat ( that awkward little seat jump teehee) and ordered my parents to turn the volume UP! It was such a treat to hear it on the radio. James you are amazing and I love yoooooo!

  • *Pink Floyd my bad...

  • I honestly think he must have met some members if not the whole pink flys group while in England and wrote that line. To close in time and space to not have.

  • @silvergraywolf117 The phrase didn't, of course, originate with Pink Floyd!

  • love this song!!!!

  • I love North Carolina. I've lived here my whole life and I grew up listening to this song. No matter where I am in the future, this song will always bring me back.

  • 2:19 ... I'd take THAT from behind

  • I just cant believe there are 12 voting muppets out there of these proportions, what is the matter with people?...

  • Besides the voice, he's actually a really good guitar player too

  • your own land hurts.when you away..

  • What year is this

  • What year is this

  • thumbs up for epic whistling

  • @Fruscianteistheman I know he is a really good whistler lol

    john is the man!

  • Dark side of the moon??? WTF

  • @ThePinkFloydLove Sorry buddy but this song came out first...

  • He seems so angelic here

  • FACT: One of the top ten whistling intros of all time. PERIOD JT rocking the locks

  • we got blessed for a minute.

  • "you ever get tired of singing the same songs?" JT: "You ever get tired of talking about your dick?"

  • the voice of an angel... like a combination of Fergie and Jesus

  • @ShmacProductions You're comparing Fergie to James Taylor? Jump off a cliff

  • Comment removed

  • @ShmacProductions Too bad I was joking too. Shouldn't have drank so much at the Catalina Wine Mixer...

  • @nickmordo maybe i was raised wrong but where im from telling someone to go "Jump off a cliff" isn't exactly what I call a joke. Its actually pretty much the opposite of a joke. So next time you try and tell a joke, probably be a good idea to flip through the pages of your "how to be funny for dumbasses" manual one more time, might learn a couple of things bud

  • @ShmacProductions You're right, it wasn't a joke. Just jump off a cliff, and I'm not your buddy, guy. Stop ruining James Taylor with your stolen movie dialog, moron.

  • @nickmordo I wasnt ruining James Taylor, I love James Taylor, clearly the reason why I'm listening to this song. I didn't think anyone would get this worked up over a quote or get their panties all in a bunch and stir up as much commotion as you have. So just stop responding and pretending to be all tough behind your little computer screen. Just a heads up, its not cool to go on YouTube to pick fights. So please, for all of us, just don't respond again, its old.

  • @nickmordo you gonna take that nickmordo?

  • wow how does he get his voice to sound like that wow i love this song sing it in the car everytime

  • When he sing's "Hey, Babe, the sky's on fire, and I'm dyin'" seems to be he must have really been in the throes of his heroin addiction. He wrote it in England when he was at Abbey Road with The Beatles, the "holy host of others standing round'. What a masterpiece, it never, never, never gets old.

  • @irishace11 shut up

  • @888phoenix888 Blow me.

  • Such a talent.

  • He's singing about NORTH Carolina. Just a clarification.

  • @tommyrock69

that lower state is north georgia

  • @tommyrock69 lol

  • South Carolina was my college summer retreat as a ocean Lifeguard. The best memories of my life. This song takes me there every time. What Tallent James has to transport me there!

  • February 17, 1971: James Taylor makes TV debut on the Johnny Cash Show. He performs "Carolina on My Mind", a song recorded for the Beatles' Apple Records in 1968. The song's " holy host of others standing around me" is a reference to the Beatles, who were recording The White Album in the same studio where JT was recording his first LP; in fact, the original song features Paul on bass and George on backing vocals. ☺

  • 0:13 cocaine rub

  • One state- North Carolina. One man. One Song.

  • LOVE the carolina's glad to be from the carolina's
