As others have pointed out, this is the Berkeley Hills Tunnel. I believe the train spends about 3 minutes in the tunnel of the 5 scheduled between the stations.
This is going along 24 west toward Oakland through Orinda. Thank you for posting this video I travel this rout many time and I always wondered how does this journey looks from the front seat.
Everytime I ride BART these days , the trains very seldom run 75 to 80 mph anymore as they did when I was growing up there . I guess it's safety over speed .
wow so thats how it looks I applied for bart passed the test and the interview wating to take my phyical and drug test i'm close I look at this every day before I get there then the class I know in my heart that I will do this job
Good Job..Cant wait to have you on board.. It sounds like you are through the hardest part.. Now all you have to do is wait.. Depending on the order of events.. After the agility test.. You may be placed in a pool, hopefully you will get called soon..Cant wait to meet you.. Good Luck "-)
This must be a nice job since you really don't deal with the riders at all. You get to just sit in the cabin of the train and not even operate the train since it's all on auto pilot.
I've been a BART rider for many years, and my one frustration (aside from the fare increases) has been that I there's no forward view! Entering the tunnels and subway portions of the system has always been the most interesting moments of riding the trains! Thank you for filming this--If you get the chance, could you PLEASE record a trip through the Transbay Tube?
i remember hitting the tube to san fran and seeing how fast the trains going the opposite direction looked. thats gotta be pretty wild from the front. you got a "flat-nose" cab or an oldschool slanted front cab? you an EMT too?
Think the age is 18 now.. For the first year or so you have to kinda work the shift that you end up with.. as you gain seniority you get to pick what you want..
Oh and another question, why do the trains slow down in certain areas like between the Balboa Park station and Daly City station, or also between Daly City and Colma? I mean it makes sense when they slow down approaching the Downtown Oakland stations b/c of how they have to switch tracks, but why elsewhere?
train usually goes 70 unless it is late which then goes 80.. The red is the "max" speed for the area but thge schedule usually keeps it one notch below.
Did you start out in orinda?

BART tunnel takes 6 to 7 minutes from West Oakland to Embarcadero, much faster then AC Transit Transbay service, over Bay Bridge.

Same for the metro in DC. I'd be saying to myself "Is that Train Operator drunk or what?"
