Mechanix originally was on the "No Life Till Leather" 1982 demo. Metallica took it, revamped it for "The Four Horseman" and Mustaine took the original Mechanix and revamped up for the "Killing Is My Business" album in 1984. Mechanix came first, but yeah, Ellifon is playing a Metallica song.

He's not really playing Metallica, if you think about it. Megadeth's "Mechanix" is the same music from "Four Horsemen" but faster and with different words.

You're not wrong, but not completely correct either. Mustaine co-wrote 'Four Horsemen' when he was still with Metallica, so once he formed Megadeth, he used his part ownership in that song and re-tooled it as 'Mechanix', but since 'Four Horsemen' came first...Ellefson IS really playing Metallica.
