the guitar part is really , really one of the most difficullt, in the duo guitar and flute, which I have ever played. But guitar is just an instrument not able to be equel to the intensity of flute. However it does not mean, that it is not heard.
I dont think the "match-box" sound is necessarily the composers fault. Dont criticize a composer for writing challenging music. This is a wonderful work that uses the guitar to its full capability. BTW Eliot Fisk practically "arranged" the guitar part. Beaser just gave him a sketch of what he wanted and Eliot did the rest.
Why is it that composers think they need to make the guitar into something it's not? If you really study successful pieces and learn how to be simple the instrument might not always sound like a match box!
