What's everybody getting so worked up about those two crossing the tracks?? Close call my left foot! Close call is when the train passes and rips off your back pocket!!!
Fantastic video!!!I have heard that thiw steam locomotive is the most beautiful in the world!!Nice job....have a look at my videos!Greetings from Greece!
Got this video because YouTube recommended it. Those two are crazy! People like that are why railfans get a bad rap in certain online forums, earning nicknames like foamers and such. Great video, taken from a SAFE distance from 4449. I guess those two never heard of the zoom feature on their cameras!
what a beautiful steamer. they should have steamers all the time not these dumb diesels. i love steamers and always have loved them and always will. we'll probably have to go back to them when we run out of gas. =)
As liberal as most Washingtonians are, it's a wonder any ot them showed up to catch a glimpse of anything so environmentally UNfriendly as a steam locomotive.
If Obama had his way he'd do away with steam engines. Make no mistake about it, he
HATES anything that rings of Western might and technology. Look at what he did to another mainstay of ours: NASA.
@1966gto1000 It's amazing how absolutely anything can be used to bash the president. Instead of appreciating the beautiful piece of American history shown here, you'd rather find an excuse to make up s**t about Obama. And I even think people are too hard on Bush. What the hell, screw politics, and let the steam engines roll.
great video, poor title. a close call would have been if that fat tub lady fell on the tracks and the hubby had to drag her off and pull her off the track as the front part of the train misses her by inches, that is a close call, anything else is routine

Mount Hood makes a great intro and backdrop for your a great train. Nice choice of location! I got to this video from one of your others, but I can't remember where I started before that.
If you think this is a close call you ain't seen nothing. Where i work, every time we go over this crossing there's always the idiotic tourists that never listen to the bells or anything and what do they do? Keep driving over the crossing with out the care in the world. If we hit them, we wont be able to run trains anymore..
Nice shot. Nice to see her doing track speed with all the sound too.
Just wrablin through some Rr video's and came across yours. Started out watching Billr991 's
video of his HO layout Southern Pacific RR in the cascades Part II that he sent me yesterday 12/31/11. By The Way, HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! Stay safe around the tracks!
@Brian4449 actually it is too close. shit gets thrown around under the train. if something were to fly out from there, she would have been seriously injured/killed by the train and it would be those 2's fault. thats why on a road at a railroad crossing where you are supposed to stop at the white line, the line is not 1ft from the side of the train.
I would have laid on the tracks and casually shot the best film footage in the world and then roll over to my side and smoke a cig, feeling the whoosh traveling by.
@SuperDesi45 yep its a Steam engine built in 1941 as a GS-4 retired in 1957. Removed from outdoor display in oaks park. restored at burlington northerns hoyt street roundhouse. and became the freedom train 1975-1976
I get here because this video was in my "recommended" tab. Ive liked trains my whole life. Just saw UP's #844 on it's static display 1 day layover last week
this vid really give a idea how fast trains are people think they can easy get across but the time it took its fast and think about the other this is a steam engine so more modern ones well lets just say splat!
Wow some people are just so ignorant. I honestly don't know why they needed to cross the tracks like that when they could have stayed where they were and gotten good shots in a safe manner.
@WPRR1 When SP 4449 was in active service back in the 50's, she operated passenger trains from LA to San Francisco. Since the line was usually very foggy, she used the A200 horn because it projects it's sound further and does a better job of warning people in fog when you can't really see the train coming. Now, she only uses her Leslie A200 horn as a back-up when the whistle doesn't work or when people get too close.
Beautiful view! I just subscribed because my little preschooler loves to watch trains and you get good videos on them (I do love the background, though).
Two things show me that those two don't really do this hobby a lot: They are trespassing on the ROW like it's their neighborhood sidewalk and they gave up the side with the good lighting for the backlit side of the tracks.
That was a close call? Hmm... I find it funny they hope over to the side with less sun lol, but to call that a close call it kind of nanny stating it.
Do people not see that these are just machines like anything else? That humans assembled and humans are operating? It seems like people forget that sometimes
Yes if either had tripped they would have had 15 seconds to get off the tracks. That's way too close. Stupid fans like this give the rest of us a bad name.

@dcarleenfrick JETZcorp said There are two main reasons I know of for the diesel. One is for the dynamic braking, which is much safer and more effective than the air brakes on the steam locomotive and railcars. The other reason is that, for insurance reasons, the consist has to be registered as an Amtrak service but in order to do that there must be an Amtrak locomotive somewhere in the consist. It may serve other functions as well, like maybe providing electrical power for the consist?
