Yes hell is forever for time without end. The souls in hell are never "consumed" as some would hope to believe. In as much as Christ died to give you life in heaven without end He likewise died to save you from hell without end. Our life in Heaven never ends. The suffering in the lake of fire never ends. Choosing to believe these things aren't true won't change reality. Heaven and hell are forever.
And even though God knows we are too weak to resist Satan, God nonetheless lets Satan dominate the wills of men (or her).

I don't care which arguments anyone provides - if God lets his children suffer in Hell for eternity, regardless of how badly they've behaved, then he's evil, and I'm not willing to obey an evil God. God should have provided better evidence to his existence and plan if he wanted us to be loyal to him, so he can't blame us for doubting when all he has left is a book. I know there are eyewitness accounts, but none of these has confirmed WHO God is, only possibly that he does exist.

@lrich0207 Well, if that's true, he should at least send those who fail to come up to his expectations to rehabilitation, not eternal punishment. I believe myself that if Heaven exists, Hell doesn't, but that Heaven is constructed much like Dante's Hell, with different "layers" where the most faithful are in the innermost circle and closest to God, and those who are in the outermost circle are most far away from God. So I think it's a matter of how worthy you are of God's love, not IF you are.

This was apparently because the words for "eternity" and "a very long time" in the original Biblical language were very similar. Sounds reasonable - I wouldn't want to spend even a week in Hell.
I myself have been thinking about this subject alot recently, whether hell is eternal conscious torment or annihilation I am split on, but one thing I do know is that Jesus died so you wouldn't have to experience either of the 2 nor even have to spend 1 second in that place. I don't believe in scaring people to accept Jesus by using hell, but I don't want to ignore the reality of it either. I don't believe God tortures His children forever, I believe in the end, He gives us what we want
..that is, we can either choose to live eternally with Him (heaven), or we can live eternally without Him (hell). Part of free-will is God respects the choices we make and I think the traditional view of hell (torture chamber) both misrepresents the character of God, and the whole purpose of us being created with free-will. Jesus says if we die to ourselves, we will find eternal bliss, the whole point of hell is a place where people are allowed for themselves for eternity, without God. Peace

As for me, I don't see how a short life of sin and bad living justifies eternal punishment and I do believe that God will forgive us even in Hell if we repent from the depth of our hearts.
Well, this is a very heavy subject for me, I know with God all things are possible so if He choose to end hell someday, I would be the first to rejoice, but the Bible doesn't give us any indication that one can leave hell once they're there so I think the important thing is we don't take that chance and find out we're wrong. 4 me, theres so much more to being a Christian than not going to hell, life with God is an adventure full of destiny, life and purpose NOW, not when I die and go to heaven!
Well, I do believe in the concept of a 'hell,' but not an eternal torture chamber beyond our worst nightmare, or else I think God would have talked about it as early as Genesis and then with Moses and the Law, neither does the Bible say death is the final cut off point for a human soul (although I don't want to flirt with this idea too much). But one thing I do know is the gospel is about healing the whole person (body, soul, spirit) and the whole world (whoever is searching).
With all due respect, how do you know what my beliefs are to determine if they are unscriptural or not? Do you know me that well or something? If there is no 'hell' or reward or punishment in the next life, why did Jesus give us so many warnings about us dying in our sin? Or why did Jesus even go to the cross if we don't need to be saved from anything? If you believe in Jesus, don't let your theology keep you from sharing the good news with others, it's a mandate, not an option for us..
If the only purpose of following Christ is to 'escape hell' it creates a fear-based relationship with God, and this misses the point of what it means to be saved. God will never turn a heart away that is truly seeking Him. The Bible actually says that Jesus went to hell for us (or the place of the dead), so he went to hell for us so he wouldn't have to go to heaven without us.

The whole theory is the same as a child who goes out to his back-yard and creates a tower of plastic blocks to be intentionally unstable and having a very good chance of toppling over (the way God created man). Ok pay attention. Hell is a Pagan concept and comes from Norse theology. It was originally added to christianity by the catholics (some time after 325A.D.) and started off as a reward for christians. Thats right a REWARD. Hell was initially for those who died believing in Jesus ("In grace" as they called it) but died without confessing their last sins. They went to Hell to have "their sin burned from their flesh so that they come out the other side pure and thus be saved by "His" will".

First of all, if God knows everything, even the end from the beginning, arguably he KNEW that man would go to this "hell" you believe in. So if God already KNEW that man would go to "hell", then it's foolish to say that it wasn't his will for them to go there.
Secondly, it's not the Lord Jesus Christ that people don't "choose" to believe, it's hypocritical people who call themselves Christians that people reject. Could someone tell me what version of the bible I am supposed to read. There are many and it has been changed so much. The KJV was not written until 1611. So it has also undergone change.
You have to do research about what scripture you want to "read" Most of the texts are translated from hebrew or greek. English only has so many words to discribe things. The other two languages use multiple words to discribe the same thing in english with different deviations. Example the word love in English has three meanings in hebrew.
i have done lots of research and soul searching and all of that. but I can not figure out why a god of love would allow us to burn forever for not believing a certain thing. Some people use what is in Revelation of the Bible, the lake of fire, for a claim of everlasting fiery torment. But death and hell are cast into the lake of fire and therefore the lake of fire means total destruction. Death will be no more and graves will be no more.
Adam was told what the price of not obeying would be, it was death, and there was no mention of everlasting fiery torment.

You are claiming God created Hell a place of torture. The body is flesh and the soul is self , who the person is, that can be left in the grave forever in death. If not going to be resurrected than God is the one who destroys both soul and body, you’re claiming a person destroys their self in Hell a place of torture.

First of all, Hell is the absence of God. Just as Heaven is the absence of satan. Because Adam and Eve chose to sin, and because Satan chose to betray God, the holy bond between us and God was broken. God gave us the choice to be a part of his kingdom and we rejected it. There has to be a consequence for any action.
Contunued: God wants you to choose heaven (by loving him and believing in him) not to hate him and disregard his existence. Just because Hell exists, and there are jails to imprision people commit crimes, doesn't mean that the people that created they places WANT to use them. They are a "necessary evil". If you don't want to go to hell, then don't go against God and live a good life.
I still don't understand why people that don't fully understand the bible, find good willed posts on youtube and throw up a random pieces of scripture (that are incomplete) and attack a creator that is not forcing them to believe in him at all.

I can get over being mad at someone while they still face their consequences. Example: You rob my house. I am mad at you. You get caught and go to jail. When i am no longer mad at you, should i let you out of jail? No. You have to face the consequences for your actions. God doesn't want people to go to hell, but you make your own decisions on Earth. God respects that decision, but he gives you the proper judgment for you wrongdoings.
Well I refuse to believe hell is eternal and those that go stay forever.
What about people who go to heaven and have relatives/friends who didn't go with them? What does God make them do, just forget about them? They can't possibly be fully happy in heaven. I don't care which arguments anyone provides - if God lets his children suffer in Hell for eternity, regardless of how badly they've behaved, then he's evil, and I'm not willing to obey an evil God. God should have provided better evidence to his existence and plan if he wanted us to be loyal to him, so he can't blame us for doubting when all he has left is a book. I know there are eyewitness accounts, but none of these has confirmed WHO God is, only possibly that he does exist.

@lrich0207 Well, if that's true, he should at least send those who fail to come up to his expectations to rehabilitation, not eternal punishment. I believe myself that if Heaven exists, Hell doesn't, but that Heaven is constructed much like Dante's Hell, with different "layers" where the most faithful are in the innermost circle and closest to God, and those who are in the outermost circle are most far away from God. So I think it's a matter of how worthy you are of God's love, not IF you are.

@lrich0207 (continued) Furthermore, I read somewhere from a source that seemed very credible that there was an error when the Bible was first translated - the amount of time sinners were sent to Hell was translated as "eternity" when in fact it rather said something like "a very long time". This was apparently because the words for "eternity" and "a very long time" in the original Biblical language were very similar. Sounds reasonable - I wouldn't want to spend even a week in Hell.

I myself have been thinking about this subject alot recently, whether hell is eternal conscious torment or annihilation I am split on, but one thing I do know is that Jesus died so you wouldn't have to experience either of the 2 nor even have to spend 1 second in that place. I don't believe in scaring people to accept Jesus by using hell, but I don't want to ignore the reality of it either. I don't believe God tortures His children forever, I believe in the end, He gives us what we want

..that is, we can either choose to live eternally with Him (heaven), or we can live eternally without Him (hell). Part of free-will is God respects the choices we make and I think the traditional view of hell (torture chamber) both misrepresents the character of God, and the whole purpose of us being created with free-will. Jesus says if we die to ourselves, we will find eternal bliss, the whole point of hell is a place where people are allowed for themselves for eternity, without God. Peace

As for me, I don't see how a short life of sin and bad living justifies eternal punishment and I do believe that God will forgive us even in Hell if we repent from the depth of our hearts.

Well, this is a very heavy subject for me, I know with God all things are possible so if He choose to end hell someday, I would be the first to rejoice, but the Bible doesn't give us any indication that one can leave hell once they're there so I think the important thing is we don't take that chance and find out we're wrong. 4 me, theres so much more to being a Christian than not going to hell, life with God is an adventure full of destiny, life and purpose NOW, not when I die and go to heaven!

Well, I do believe in the concept of a 'hell,' but not an eternal torture chamber beyond our worst nightmare, or else I think God would have talked about it as early as Genesis and then with Moses and the Law, neither does the Bible say death is the final cut off point for a human soul (although I don't want to flirt with this idea too much). But one thing I do know is the gospel is about healing the whole person (body, soul, spirit) and the whole world (whoever is searching).

With all due respect, how do you know what my beliefs are to determine if they are unscriptural or not? Do you know me that well or something? If there is no 'hell' or reward or punishment in the next life, why did Jesus give us so many warnings about us dying in our sin? Or why did Jesus even go to the cross if we don't need to be saved from anything? If you believe in Jesus, don't let your theology keep you from sharing the good news with others, it's a mandate, not an option for us..

If the only purpose of following Christ is to 'escape hell' it creates a fear-based relationship with God, and this misses the point of what it means to be saved. God will never turn a heart away that is truly seeking Him. The Bible actually says that Jesus went to hell for us (or the place of the dead), so he went to hell for us so he wouldn't have to go to heaven without us.

The whole theory is the same as a child who goes out to his back-yard and creates a tower of plastic blocks to be intentionally unstable and having a very good chance of toppling over (the way God created man). The tower of blocks topples over, being built specifically to be unsteady and having a high probability to fall, then the child curses the blocks for falling over and puts them in a fire-pit.

Ok pay attention. Hell is a Pagan concept and comes from Norse theology. It was originally added to christianity by the catholics (some time after 325A.D.) and started off as a reward for christians. Thats right a REWARD. Hell was initially for those who died believing in Jesus ("In grace" as they called it) but died without confessing their last sins. They went to Hell to have "their sin burned from their flesh so that they come out the other side pure and thus be saved by "His" will".

If hell is real, and eternal, and painful, theoretically would it not be the greatest sacrifice possibly imaginable if one person could single handedly wipe out the human race thereby preventing any more souls from entering hell? I understand the idea punishing someone by confining them to a place they hate (within reason; for example, prison), but I don't think that ANYONE deserves to suffer an ETERNITY in Hell.

israelsaporter, this is a neatly packaged and oft-parroted line, and it's almost laughable how many so called Christians believe it. First of all, if God knows everything, even the end from the beginning, arguably he KNEW that man would go to this "hell" you believe in. You self proclaimed Christians don't seem to ever think about this when you parrot stuff you've heard. So if God already KNEW that man would go to "hell", then it's foolish to say that it wasn't his will for them to go there.

Secondly, it's not the Lord Jesus Christ that people don't "choose" to believe, it's hypocritical people who call themselves Christians that people reject. When you present such a contradictory message(God LOVES you, worship him, or burn in hell for eternity), most people realize that this "god" you present is not WORTHY of worship. And when you have so called Christians saying one thing, yet LIVING another, you don't in any way have a message WORTH "choosing."

Another thing you fail to see is that so called Christians sin just as much IF NOT MORE than unbelievers. The fact that you believe in "god"(It baffles me that you haven't the respect for him by spelling it with a lowercase "g"), and in "hell" does nothing to make you stop sinning. THIS is what makes you a hypocrite, and is why Jesus was so harsh with the religious leaders of his day. Read Matthew 23. You have to do research about what scripture you want to "read" Most of the texts are translated from hebrew or greek. English only has so many words to discribe things. The other two languages use multiple words to discribe the same thing in english with different deviations. Example the word love in English has three meanings in hebrew.

Some people use what is in Revelation of the Bible, the lake of fire, for a claim of everlasting fiery torment. But death and hell are cast into the lake of fire and therefore the lake of fire means total destruction. Death will be no more and graves will be no more.
Adam was told what the price of not obeying would be, it was death, and there was no mention of everlasting fiery torment.

First of all, Hell is the absence of God. Just as Heaven is the absence of satan. Because Adam and Eve chose to sin, and because Satan chose to betray God, the holy bond between us and God was broken. God gave us the choice to be a part of his kingdom and we rejected it. Contunued: God wants you to choose heaven (by loving him and believing in him) not to hate him and disregard his existence. Just because Hell exists, and there are jails to imprision people commit crimes, doesn't mean that the people that created they places WANT to use them. They are a "necessary evil". If you don't want to go to hell, then don't go against God and live a good life.

I can get over being mad at someone while they still face their consequences. Example: You rob my house. I am mad at you. You get caught and go to jail. When i am no longer mad at you, should i let you out of jail? No. You have to face the consequences for your actions. God doesn't want people to go to hell, but you make your own decisions on Earth. God respects that decision, but he gives you the proper judgment for you wrongdoings.

What about people who go to heaven and have relatives/friends who didn't go with them? What does God make them do, just forget about them? They can't possibly be fully happy in heaven. If all of this after life talk is false, you would not have lost a thing. To escape hell and be saved, please look at the following in the bible. Revelations 21:8; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Romans 5:8; John 3:16, and Romans 10:9-10. I would rather place a bet on heaven and get it right, than to take a chance on hell not being real, then die and find out it was a bad bet. Its pretty clear throughout the bible that God does not dwell in hell, and the devil does not dwell Heaven. That principal fills about half of the bible. I used to be just like you. The bible was just a fairy tail, so I went on a quest to prove it wrong. I used non christian perspective and a christian perspective. I collected evidence that is historical and factual and compared it to the scripture to prove it wrong. It didn't' work. I realized that there are to many facts that support what the bible teaches.
