@kcam04 No. When the transfer case is locked into 4WD you still only have Rear Wheel Drive until you lock the front hubs, then the front wheels actually pull. "Lockers" are in the axle differential and are a seperate traction aiding device. Technically "four wheel drive" on most vehicles built back then really only drives 1 front and 1 rear wheel on ice. With lockers front and rear, you have TRUE 4WD. But that's bad on ice and when turning on dry pavement, lockers are spendy too.
There were 2 versions of the Quadra-Trac, the BW 1305, which had no Low Range and the second version in your Wagoneer, the BW 1339, that had a Low Range of 2.57:1.
The transfer case New Process Gear Model 219 usend in Wagoneers from 1980 to 1982, In 1983 the Wagoneer used the NP 208 and finally in 1984 to 1991 the Wagoneer used NP 229.
You can check the information in the book calls "Standar Catalog of 4x4´s 1945 - 1993 or check the web "Jeep Transfer Case Spotters Guide.
Hi and thnk you for your recommnedations to handle in the snow.
Your jeep Wagoneer Limited 1979 used transfer case built by BORG WARNER is commonly referred to as the Quadra - Trac. Jeep used the Quadra - Trac in lieu of the Dana 20 transfer case behind jeeps that used the TH-400 by General Motor automatic transmission from 1973 to 1979 in Cj`s, Jeep Trucks, Cherokees and Wagoneers too.
Good call mate i apologize. my 79 wagoneer and Cherokee Golden Eagle have the quadra trac were as my grand wagoneer and j10 have the select trac. my fault sorry
Very cool Wags! I used to have a '78 (360 2 bbl/TH400 trans w/ Quadra-Trac) now I have an '87 thats exactly like yours! The '87 totally dominated the snow last winter.
"with these nothing saves you on gas milage" Speaking the truth!

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee and loved it. My stupid a** sold it and I miss it. Wouldn't mind owning a wagoneer either.

Great vid, think you're a little backwards on the t-case: the '79 should have Quadra-Trac and the '87 will have Selec-Trac.

Jeeps are the greatest cars ever. I have a 94 JGC Laredo with 189,000 miles and it runs great. I will die the day they stop making the Jeep brand!
