I viewed this AFTER I created a power point presentation on the song and poem for Christmas Day. I am comforted knowing we found the same information on Longfellow's life, family and faith. We/I, however, cannot do musically what the MTC did.
Also, there is a great contrast between Longfellow's life and work and that of Poe, Emerson and other transcendentalists of that era.
@ETanner Ed Herman was a hired actor for this. the point of this is that the music is underscoring what he is saying. his talking so long is what is supposed to bring this scene to life. personally i think it's just beautiful:)
This is by far the most spectacular and heart-moving Christmas video I've ever seen and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye(s) as it reaches its crescendo. So many dear memories come to mind of people, now gone, with whom I shared wonderful Christmas eves. A perfect production in all ways.
Ed Herrmann (2 n's, dbstores) is a national treasure! He has come far since his role as an idiot husband and wannabe yacht captain in Overboard. He also narrates several great audio books of late . . . Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand is destined for classic status!! Yes, the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square were fantastic here, but the narration brings it all to life! The DVD is now a part of our Christmas celebration!
This made me cry as I watched this. My grandmother would have loved this. She loved poetry. And the music has so much impact. It's beautiful. The most wonderful display of poetry and a life I have ever seen in my 15 years of life.
@RosesNightengales It is on the CD/DVD of "Ring Christmas Bells". Search it on Google, you will find it. The concert included Brian Stokes Mitchell, Ed Herrman, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square. It is an amazing CD.
God, I Love Christmas.

Mr. Herrmann has also recorded Fulton Oursler's "The Greatest Story Ever Told"
an excellent audiobook.
