I actually sort of have a similar story of how she died. I have depression and a few years ago I took alot of Tylenol pills. Sadly for her though she wasn't able to make it out.
this song came out right after the viet nam war ended and sang about what every american was feeling, love was needed to pull us out of the dark and deep hole we all fell into. great post!! brings hope for what love can do!!
@baked4211 No, Neil Young wrote the song all by himself. Let her use it on her album and release it as a single instead of doing so himself like he originally planned. I'm a Neil freak and love his verison, but he wouldn't have had as big of a hit with it, I think. Her version is more top-40.
first time i heard this on AM radio to the left of the dial in 1978 i loved this song.
FM radio picked it up a few months later. when i first saw nicolette on tv or the cover of her 1979 album she pleasantly looked like someone i knew earlier as a very young child but i am not sure who it was. there truly was magic in songs like this.
This song remaind me struggle time just arrived to Kansas city. In JCC college met a nice nurse student which did not tell her how beautiful she was. Nicolette passed away for brain swelling. She is in the sky shining like a gorgeous star
Ah...the messages in songs of the 70's. Simply don't compare to today at all. Not that there isn't a lot of wonderful music in the world today, but, for those of you who remember when this played on the radio and how it felt to turn it up, windows down and muscle on the road....well, you know the feeling I have after listening to this now. Wonderful woman...lost too soon.
This song is just haunting from the 1st I heard it in 1978 to now , no one could sing it like she did. Praise Neil for giving it to her . I have not been a fan of her later work but I always come back to this one version. Great, wonderful voice, timeless arrangement!!!
Kansas City Missouri Girl who Graduated From Bishop Hogan High School. We lost you too soon Nicolette. 6 date will stick in my mind forever John Kennedy, John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, And last but not Least Nicolette Larson. When I find Myself at the Gates of Pearl all I'm going to ask for is Front Row seats to Watch and Listen to Gods Band.
This song is like beautiful old memories. Kodak film. timeless stuff. Like opening a photo album with real photographs. That kind of stuff. Leaves turning orange in Connecticut .
YEARS AGO I SAW HER OPEN FOR RICKY NELSON AT THE PALOMINO CLUB, A FEW MONTHS BEFORE RICKY WENT DOWN IN THAT PLANE CRASH. I ALWAYS LIKED NICOLETTES BREEZY KIND OF STYLE WHEN SHE SANG. I WAS SO SAD WHEN SHE PASSED ON AS WELL.
this is continued from last post and that flute and that sax player was really great in this song!and that bass player and violin was totally awesome! i sure would like to see more 1970's music videos! this song is one of my favorite! i will never get tired of hearing. it and the more i play it on turntable the more i want to listen to it! nicolette larson is a fantastic recording artist and the members of her band or group.
wow! nicolette larson is really great and awesome and a fantastic song! the way the music was done was excellent and her doing lead vocals! do es anyone know what she is doing now?is she still doing music? i heard she went to country music a few years ago.where have all the hits gone! these days no one is not playing the good stuff anymore!
This is my favourite Bee Gees album...since i bought it 10 years ago now...
This song always sends me a few shiver down my spine ... It's surely in their top 10 songs of their history surely ... and in the top 3 of the songs of this album (with "Trafalgar" and "the greatest man in the world")
This is real soul music... not as 90 % of the "so-called" soul music who surround us today who lacks a lil' humble attitude...
People should know that the best albums are not always the most known...
For those who are together and for those who aren't the way the world is going, it's going to take a lot of love for us just to get through this mess we are in. LadyProwler100
She made a CD for putting babies to sleep. Worked great! She was always so awesome, and the Rhumba Girl video was one of the first on TV. OK, how many times can I say "awesome"? Got through the teen years with her, Linda, and Karla.
@mierpaul yes she was, once upon a few decades ago............ that is, until she figured out that Neil was'nt all that and a box of cookies, like he thought he was...........
I just love this song and I equally love Nicolette. She had so much energy and happiness when she sang her songs. She was definitely a pop legend who left this earth far too early. Rest In Peace Nicolette and know your music is still loved today.

This song is prefect, no matter what your musical taste is. You can't say this song sucks, This is from someone who grew up listening to alot of Heavy Metal.
In the winter of 1978 I worked as the sole parking lot attendant in a booth at an outside lot in Arlington, Virginia. I had to arrive every morning by 5:30 am and it was always dark and bitterly cold with the wind whipping. My only comfort was an fm radio. I would listen to WPGC-FM and they played "Lotta Love" it seems like every 30 minutes. Listening to Nicolette sing this song always got me through those cold mornings. Her voice literally warmed me up. I shed a few tears when I heard she died.
Has anyone (or everyone) noticed the similarity of this song to "One of These Nights" by the Eagles? (if this has been referenced before I apologize..I didn't go through the 750+ comments).
@YeahRightInc Wrong, this song was written by Neil Young, if anything they copied him. Neil is considered one of the greatest singer/songwriters in the history of rock. If you research this song Nicolette was the backup singer for Neil and she picked a blank tape off the floor of his car and played it in his tapedeck and he said if you like it its yours. I recall the first time I heard this song and I liked it alot, but I couldnt put a face to it since I dint know who she was.. then one sat morning on American Bandstand I heard Dick Clark introduce her as she was singing this song and I was thinking Im finally gonna see the girl that sings this song, and OH MY GOD ! was I surprised at the beautifull angel that was singing this song with her long hair and pretty face .
I have loved this song for many years! Wow, still sounds great. There is just nothing like this soft rock from the 70s anymore. I really miss this music. She was awesome. RIP Nicolette. Thank you for your gift of song.
She is in the same as Karen Carpenter,,Yvonne Elliman,,,these 3 unbelievable beautifull women will never be replaced,,and are all gone from us now.I live for the day I get to meet all 3 of them again. Lord it's hard to type this. But Nicolette's voice and long hair,,would make any guy with class proud to be her husband. I wish i could have been with her in 77.78,79 when she was at her prime. I would have rocked her world any and every nite,,as no other guy ever could have dreamed of. Love her.
@DaveWollenberg OMG..... You just gave me a very sad news! I didn't know she was dead.......
Another good one left us here in this world! What a legacy on this song..... I want to thank God for allowing me to enjoy of Nicolette voice..... I am so sad right now, I think will cry......
Every time I hear this it makes me sad she never lived so long. She was a freak, that song she did Last in love written by JD Souther was my favorite. I still love all the stuff on this album, she had the most amazing mentor in Neil Young. Still better then 98% of the crap you hear on the wireless today.

@singlejeff69<<<how could Yvonne Elliman be dead??? ....she's just 60 years old for God's sake.....
mybigbluetoad 6 months ago
She is in the same as Karen Carpenter,,Yvonne Elliman,,,these 3 unbelievable beautifull women will never be replaced,,and are all gone from us now.I live for the day I get to meet all 3 of them again. Lord it's hard to type this. But Nicolette's voice and long hair,,would make any guy with class proud to be her husband. I wish i could have been with her in 77.78,79 when she was at her prime. I would have rocked her world any and every nite,,as no other guy ever could have dreamed of. Love her.

She was great wasn't she?! She was also great on Neil Young's "You and Me" too!

Every time I hear this it makes me sad she never lived so long. She was a freak, that song she did Last in love written by JD Souther was my favorite. I still love all the stuff on this album, she had the most amazing mentor in Neil Young. Still better then 98% of the crap you hear on the wireless today.
