Whether the filmmakers intended it or not I have no clue, but the Last Stand sequence has a lighthearted feel to it. This is despite the fact Custer and his men are doomed to death. That crusty character keeps reloading Custer's revolvers and spitting tobacco without a care in the world. The music, while excellent, adds to the glory of it all when there was in fact no glory in dying.
