Actually Spelt is regarded as the official BRITISH spelling of Spelled. Im not trying to start an argument, this is just FYI. It's just like how colour can be spelt with or without a U. What they taught me in MY school cultural acceptance of both ways of spelling a word, and how that a word may be used for more than one thing, so not surprising that 'spelt' is a type of grain as well, no different from how the tangerines may be called oranges, also a colour of the same name.
