  • too light, no good

  • Do not burn the pots to ry or you will flambe the epoxy/plastic coating. again nice small stove

  • Most definitely. You have to keep the empty pot away from flame or the internal coating will burn.

  • the stove is very nice simple, err the music even so good I may want to buy it, so what was it?

    swaz

  • when you weigh it though you have to add he weight of fuel too.

  • I consider the weight of the fuel to be independent from stove weight A light efficient stove will definitely result in an over all reduction of weight. This stove / pot combo is roughly 1/3 the weight of a tea light stove with heiny pot.

I use 1.25 oz of fuel per day with this system. Oatmeal and coffee at breakfast, coffee for lunch and soup / salad at supper; burning the stove twice for breakfast and supper. I use the pot as a cup and cook in a freezer bag which saves even more weight.

  • Thanks for the info. I've been wondering about using aluminum cans when I only need a little bit of water.

  • Thanks Paco.

I really like to use this stove for day hikes and weekends. The tomato juice can is great for a solo pot / coffee cup.

  • great idea if you like aluminum poisoning your food! as soon as you start to heat aluminum it starts releasing aluminum Oxide into your food or water

  • Really? what would you use?

  • use any cup or can that's not Aluminum

  • But most aluminium cans have a plastic lining on the inside to protect the drink from the metal.

  • Heineken, Fosters and V8 cans have a food safe epoxy lining. Both coated and anodized aluminum cooking vessels are common.

  • indeed

  • That is debatable to some people. although i use cast iron pans people do have and use aluminum pans out there. and also if you think about it, soda sits in the sun in aluminum cans and everybody has had a hot soda before!!

  • Excellent idea!!!

    Bill

  • Thanks Bill.

    I appreciate it.

  • Well done Padra! Simplicity at its best. The question I have if this was for making breakfast... do you carry another stove for your other meals?

  • Drak,

I cook 2 meals per day when I am on the trail. Supper consists of a salad w/ bread + cheese and a pasta dish with meat cooked in a cozy. The cozy doubles as a cooler for perishables. I plan all of my meals to use 4 to 5 oz of liquid.

This stove is good for day hikes and weekend treks. It would be hard pressed to fulfill the needs of a week long hike unless you planned your meals carefully. It will boil 8 oz if needed.

Do I see a small espresso percolator in your future?

  • Just my Heiny Perc is all I need, but then again making it smaller may be an idea! See look what you have stirred up! LOL

  • So simple, yet very effective. Amazing job FriarTuck1961 !! awesome,

    Ed

  • Thanks Ed

I really like your work too
