Hi, I have a few questions for anyone who could help me. First of all, I really like archery and I tried it maybe about five years ago, around the time I was 15 or so. However, I have never purchased a bow before and am having trouble deciding a few things. First of all, recurve or compound? I am quite fond of both, in all honesty. Second of all, I would need a few potential bows (suggestions?). I'd like to take this up as a serious hobby and compete as well.
What I can say is that some ranges don't allow compound bows because of the damage. So that is something to think about with regards to what type of ranges you might have available to you right now. Also, what type of competitions will you be more interested in is another thing to consider. Whichever you decide, I'm sure you'll have fun!
do you think this bow is Okay for competition......????? i guess if a person is skillfull on the bow it doesn't really mather the bow it self..... but again..... do you think this' competition material.
I am thinking of buying the hoyt formula excel riser, I'm aware of the F2 F3 F4 limbs but I was wondering what other limbs would go with the formula excel? Of any make preferably hoyt though :) thanks
im very into compound bows but would like to try this out, i dont really know anything at all about the pricing but if its around 200 or less im definately picking one up very soon..how much do these cost?
@MerlinArchery You say it's 'growing' and yet England had the best archers for both military and hunting ever. If anything the rate of archery has fallen significantly over the last few hundred years in the UK.
@SubRosaSpear There is "macro" and "micro". Maybe on the macro time-line, it's declined (your point "as a whole"). But on the microevolution of the sport, it's probably picking back up. Maybe that is what he is saying?
@SubRosaSpear ps. And then there is a matter of "military and hunting archers" which has declined drastically as you point out. And then there is "archery as a sport" as MerlinArchery is talking about.
@SuperR3volver I imagine archery is pretty popular in the UK because it's fun. Not every road leads back to guns, ya know. Expand your horizons (no pun intended).
What were you adjusting on the lower limb mount? I'm not referring to the alignment but the the first adjustment where you adjusted the lower limb mount throughout its range of 4 full turns. Is that a bow weight adjustment?
@fencr If it was the large black limb bolt, that is the tiller and poundage adjustment bolt. The primary use for it is to adjust the tiller, but it can be used to change the bow weight approx 10%
Not sure which one to go for, a Hoyt Horizon, or a Samick Vision. I like the Vision for the price and extra stabiliser bushings, but I also like the Horizon for it's lightweight and elegant design. Which would you recommend?
@LordVordnorf Tough question. Both are great products competeting against each other. I would be pleased to reccommend them both, which is why I picked them for reviews. The annodized finish of the Samick is a very big plus as it will look good for longer. Hoyt is the stronger brand. I would go with your heart and make the judgement based on which design you like the most. Both will perform equally well.
@LordVordnorf well it is a bit late but i would recommend Samick for beginning ... because the cheaper hoyt bows are not to recommend for beginners because they tend to have to much weight on the upper side what makes it nearly impossible to use them without a full stabilizer system ... well if you have more money at hand i would recommend the hoyt nexus or GMX ... sorry for the bad english ... it is not my native language
you should do a side by side review with the eclipse. i'm on the fence between the horizon and the eclipse.. there are still a few eclipses available from my shop, but the damn black-out horizon is so sexy
@jamesrRicH Sure, Hoyt is safe purchase. The other riser you should consider is the Samick Vision. I would choose between those two. The Samick Vision really is a break through price for the product you get. Tough choice.
Thank you very much for the video =) I am living in Germany and I will get this riser in some weeks from the USA, looking forward to it. I wanted the Eclipse but Hoyt changed the products just today.. the day I wanted to buy it from an archery store nearby. They say they cannot order it so I will stick to the horizon.
Btw: The horizon comes in white too but I cannot order black out. I will get a custom black anyway.
Is this universal

I imagine that archery is pretty popular in the UK due to the crappy gun laws?

@SuperR3volver Archery is growing over here, which is good to see. Still a small sport, but growing.
