  • beeeeeeeeernd

  • I probably don't master english enough, but, what the drop means (I mean, in the context of the track) ?

  • I was waiting patiently for the drop, but then i took an arrow in the knee

  • @computirman *FACEDESK*

  • gay no drop

  • wonderful!

  • I hope you guys waiting for a drop aren't serious

    I sure do hope so...

  • @FarmerChuggers They aren't. It's Reddit.

  • @MisterSurr Other than hoping these weren't serious, I was also hoping they were from reddit

    good job

  • where's the drop?

  • need serious drop yo.

  • I'm a jazz noob and I can't really get into this drum timing. What don't I get?

  • @capostatus64 syncopation?

  • @capostatus64 It's an interpretation of an electronic track and fairly close to the original. But it's certainly different from a lot of traditional music. I think everyone needs to hear this sort of stuff a few times before the patterns start to emerge.

  • I came here for the drop. Left disappointed. Decided to drop acid instead. Now I can't smell sounds.

  • Wtf? Where's the drop?

  • I wouldn't say the drum licks here are "technology influenced." They're jazz and funk grooves.

  • Every time i was thinkin "ok now's the drop" but evertim i was disappoint...

  • Fifteen-hundred people went into the sea, when Titanic sank from under us. Afterward, the seven-hundred people in the boats had nothing to do but wait... wait to die... wait to live... wait for a drop... that would never come.

  • I waited for a drop but it never came

  • wheres the drop?

  • that drummer.

  • Where's the drop? I didn't hear a drop? how can a song not have a wubdubdubdubdbwbubdFUCK YOIU

  • @KyOlar How many times have you been hit in the head?

  • Stromberg!!! I can't fucking believe it!!!

  • Yes mi selecta!

  • Instruments are basicly technology too, so the whole discussion concerning wether "technology" is good for music is just a big mindfuck.

Musicians like Aphex Twin are however exaples that electronic music can be just as amazing as music created in any other context.

  • 3:02 - I shat my brains out through my eyes because that guy plays the drums like an absolute bastard

  • @Kyp15 Fuck - I fucking know! I can't believe how good he is. It makes me feel sick!

  • two words sum up The Bad Plus (pun intended). Orchestrated Chaos.

  • drummer is pretty sick, awesome cover

  • The drummer is stirring that snare upp!

  • Please allow embeding

  • Dave King is literally the nicest man I've ever met.

  • Aphex Twin should be proud.

  • @fwoGermane haha I can see where you are coming from and I tend to agree with that statement, but computers aren't all bad. I think if you look at it they can be pretty fucked up but a lot of things. And the fact that they covered the song shows they dug it so c'est la vie. And let's not forget Drum kits, pianos and bass are all technology too :) peace either way

  • Think that pretty much sums it all up...

  • this is jazz, real jazz in it's most primal form, experimental and with emotion, taken over by feelings, I was there when this got recorded and I had the privilige to serve them drinks and talk to them, these guys are pure

  • fuck technology as i sit on youtube

  • @fwoGermane the guy who created this song used "technology" you fucking tit...how ironic your comment is.

  • @fwoGermane stupid comment. the members of the Bad Plus would probably slap you for talking about Aphex Twin that way.

  • Stromberg,sauben ;DDDD

  • ahhhh, the lovely wave of art and culture is nice. i think aphex would dig it....

  • music is for enjoyment, not for arguing about it

  • Isn't this human-vs-technology argument a bit pointless, since all music except singing requires some sort of technology?

  • 26 people don't know what the hell is going on here. haha.

  • Profound Comment

  • @fwoGermane Instruments are technology. -_-

  • beautiful!!

  • WOW!!!

That's all I can say.... WOW!!!!

(As I'm taking my hat off to them)

  • Himmler on keys

  • @fwoGermane More like mankind with technology two points. It's not like Aphex twin music is made by computers, it's made by people. Technology has certainly helped bring out a ton of human creativity, so to see the two as being in competition is ridiculous. It's undeniable that the beats being played here were very much influenced by the use of technology in music, but this video does show how human passion is what unites all kinds of music.

  • @LanceDirk It was a joke bud.

  • @LanceDirk " It's not like Aphex twin music is made by computers, it's made by people."

Well said. This is an important idea that gets lost amid all the "Gee whiz, technology..." talk.

  • 2:52 aww snap!

  • Comment removed

  • @fwoGermane a piano IS technology :-)

  • this is so bangarang.

  • great!

  • Flim unplugged.

  • @fwoGermane Seems like a badly posed comment (no disrespect intended), since all "technology" comes from our minds as well. Deep Blue didn't beat Kasparov, its programmers and hardware designers did.

    I would say

Acoustic instruments and awesome musicianship: one point,

Electronic instruments: one point also, because Aphex Twin's original sounds great, too.

  • It's good but i like to see him play it tight like he does on the album.

  • nice very nice!

  • what the FACK how have I not known about this... awesome

  • lovely boys...

  • Very very nice : ) Does justice to the composer Richard really is...

Also check the Dutch ensamble Lunapark, they're quite something too...

  • Such a great tune, such a great band.

  • It's like watching Animal from The Muppets knock on a kit, only better.

  • And the best of that drummer is that is spanis!! And I was in a masterclass with him ^^

  • Oh man, I just noticed The Bad Plus will be in Vancouver to perform next week.

  • @TsushimaMasaki just saw em ;) amazing

  • @TsushimaMasaki They're in Halifax next friday too, a band in high demand. They're gonna be ripping up Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. Pumped!

  • Stromberg, Bernd Stromberg ;)

  • here because of reddit

  • 3:30 Dave just tickles the bottom of the snare...haha gets me everytime!!

  • Is Dave King playing with mainline sticks?! they are coated with awesome pants

  • Iike the guy wiping the tears from his eyes at 3:56

  • They should do Port Rhombus by Squarepusher

  • Rape is illegal just so u know..

  • why disabled embedding... this is def sharable!

  • Gonna see them today!

  • jazz + aphex twin = ♥

  • around 3:30 when he rattles the snares under the drum...

  • OMFG have seen this like ages ago. though i will never see this again. thanks youtube, thanks uploader!!!

  • I wonder what richard d james thinks and feels when he sees this video

  • just one of a kind: David King!

  • literally, my body doesn't know how to react to this. i'm just like twitching with awesome drum buzzrolliness and beautiful piano melodies, and strong bass walking, just greatness!

  • Sweet! Well done lads. Greetings from Ireland.

  • he is a serious ostentator all right. Ostensibly ostentatious, yet...

    @asdffdsa9 and @iSMASHYERHEAD :)

  • Is Flim a reference to Flim and the BB's?

  • @sciroccoguy Flim is an Aphex Twin song, but perhaps it originally referenced that.

  • Fantastic!!

  • hamma !!! stromberg !!!

  • Watched Oregon perform live at the Malta Jazz Festival in 2002. Loved every second of the set and still hold my signed copy of their album very dearly. Incredible musicians and songwriters.

  • People who make such a things can't be bad, right?

  • We will never be the same.

  • @Swafferjohn he uses the snares on the bottom of the drum. Grabs them or just brushes up against them.

  • omg what the hell was that at 3:30, bloody incredible!

  • This gives me hope for modernistic writing. I don't feel like we're in this alone. Bad Plus is happenin'.

  • STROMBERG!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a great cover! I love Aphex Twins more mellow tracks, but it's so hard to comprehend his riffs with the drums, that is the only catch to doing a cover of his tracks, but although not exactly done here, I think the idea is still in the song without it being lost.

  • I don't think you need the drums.

  • @NicNiewart I lol'd.

  • People who like techno are pretty diverse Ive found..... got to love that weed

  • @WrathofBong420 you found one here. i like techno (actual "techno")

  • Damn, I didn't think Flim could get any better. And then, DRUMS!

  • Comment removed

  • JAZZ

    sup watmm

  • amazing/// i love it/// thanks/

  • that drummer is a boss.....destroying aphex beats on that drum set....what a monster....

  • @sofrimento92 I concur

  • ONE WORD - BOSSMANIA

  • I put this clip onto my favourites 3 years ago (according to youtube) & nothing's changed - I'd do it again if it wasn't there already. Thanks for the music.....

  • Stromberg title Theme :)

  • @JanMaaan Yes.

  • @JanMaaan Yes.

Maybe, "Stromberg" took the song and changed the it.

  • This is even better than I imagined it would be. Sick beats

  • everybody hail to the KING!

  • Errrmm WOW. Just WOW.

  • This is a little slice of genius.

  • Dudes. Check out the theme song for the German version of 'The Office'. /watch?v=EbOSkZcciS0 (around 1:20) - sound familiar? Apparently they didn't credit Gervais either initially. Bump for justice!

  • Dude, when I saw this I just had to click! I love 'em both :D

  • simple present

  • I liked the part where there were bitchin' drum beats.

  • Damn this was a good cover.

  • For anyone to play an Aphex Twin beat on an actual drum set would take some serious skill.

  • @warriorzin Go watch /watch?v=_oD3pbOBP50 for Mike Gloziers live drum cover of Venetian Snares Gentleman Then watch his Squarepusher drum cover at /watch?v=x0lE4SaKBB8&feature=related

  • The drum fill that starts around 2:28 where he ends it with *crash catch crash* has to be one of the greatest moments in drumming? No, music history.

  • genius.

  • sims 1 sounds!

  • I don't know who Notch is, and I don't care. I got into these guys because they can really play. Better than I can, anyway.

  • this is notch' favorite song

  • I love the bad plus. Their cover of Lithium is the only version I like. It's cool that Notch is into them, but FFS, the people that follow him around and beg for thumbs up are fucking horrible.

  • Thumbs up if Notch got you here.

  • @rigzah stop begging for thumbs up >_>

  • @rigzah Enough with the "Thumbs up if Notch got you here" already, I hate when people do whatever they can to get thumbs up.. Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @TheBakterien Well sorry.

  • @rigzah He didn't, but I will thumbs up for the cause.

  • @rigzah Notch, as in Minecraft?

  • @MilkMan778 Yep.

  • Notch stop this.

  • @G0dspeed2000 You could try and stop being such a tool.

  • @G0dspeed2000 why should he? hes just favoriting some youtube videos that isnt hurting anyone.

  • Dave King is King

  • Drumming, properly understood.

  • Oh wow. Thats incredible

  • not bad

  • Who could ever dislike this?

  • I can't get over how excellent the drums are

  • Make sure you all hear the original by aphex twin.

  • nice.

  • RDJ is inspiring to many, and I love what these fellas do. Reminds me of something on the Sims, though :)

  • i like the way the drummer is ostentatively having a good time :)

  • @iSMASHYERHEAD Do you mean ostentatiously by any chance? I wonder... For ostentatively isn't a word.

I would disagree with the use of the word regardless, for ostentatiously playing would be showboating, BIG and LOUD, like "I'm the fucking shit." Which is what you see in plenty of drummers that have prominent solos.

When you learn this guys style, too me it doesn't seem overdone at all. He's just letting his personality and creativity bleed through, really getting that groove going.

  • @asdffdsa9 ostentatiously, thank you, that's the one. you see, i speak dutch and couldn't come up with the right ending for this word. and I wasn't talking about his drumming, but about the smile on his face and the twinkle in his eyes. you might be right, but it's clear that he isn't trying to hide that.

  • @iSMASHYERHEAD Props go out to you Dutch gentlemen for speaking English better than most with English as a native tongue.

  • @asdffdsa9 I'm from Belgium, to be entirely correct, but thank you anyway ^^

  • @iSMASHYERHEAD ostentatively isn't actually a word, maybe you meant ostensibly in which case, what makes you think he isn't having a good time :)

  • @bugsduggan I think he meant ostentatiously, showing off a bit and what not. Which he has every right to do seeing how great he is here.

  • @bugsduggan or he meant ostentatiously

  • its very refreshing to hear a more acoustic and warm version of the song, tho its pretty much the same song note for note its always good to have the human feel to it. the drummer is amazing. interpretive set playing =)

  • 19 people do not need to breed.

  • That move he does at 3:29 with the snares on the underside of the drum is just so well-placed. Sounds like it's going in reverse...

  • Comment removed

  • WoW!!! I Love ApheX Twin and This people fully captured the essence!!!! It must have felt so good to play that live!!! Great F*=#ng JoB!!!!

  • 19 people are DUMB

  • Somehow better than the original .. Top notch

  • finally some people moving jazz in a fresh direction

  • @LIGHTRONIX you have no idea what your talking about. I love TBP and this song is incredible, but your comment was excessively out of place.

  • @tgeer123 im sorry for violating your commenting rules. I don't hear that much envelop pushing jazz, end of story.

  • @LIGHTRONIX do you know what jazz is? no you dont. The bad plus is a band that occasionally pulls a jazz piece, but to ssay the bad plus is an "envelope pushing" jazz band doesnt make sense.

You probably think justin beiber is an anvelope pushing rock artist.

  • Comment removed

  • @tgeer123 no need to be a dick dude! Just saw bad plus in concert, amazing as always.
