@lordilover4ever I love this, as whenever I listen to it all I see is JRM being all sexxi as hell with Ewan on stage. xD That's like my fave bit (after the kiss of course).
Great movie despite the misgivings of Bowie. Glam made a statement about excess everything. Sure beats the punk movement hands down,.this boys and girls bathed for the most part and used deoderant, I think?? Haaaaaaaa "Baby's on Fire ' by Brian Eno and Fripp, check out the original version as well. and Brian Ferry/Roxy Music, then you'll be hooked for sure mate!
Great movie despite the misgivings of Bowie. Glam made a statement about excess everything. Sure beats the punk movement hands down,.this boys and girls bathed for the most part and used deoderant, I think?? Haaaaaaaa "Baby's on Fire ' by Brian Eno and Fripp, check out the origianl
The whole guitar licking scene has nothing to do with Iggy Pop either, but rather with Mick Ronson from the 1970s sometime, around the Ziggy Stardust era. The whole damn movie is basically a trip back on what it meant to be a wild kid in the glam era, struggling with your sexuality and trying to come to terms with how life changes. I still believe that Brian Slade was supposed to be like the Man Who Fell to Earth via Bowie
@sarahJolie=I LOVEZig&Ig& lived thru glam era=this onstage 'head' game is exactly what Bowie & his (nearly) equally talented guitarist./outrageously handsome glammer Mick Ronson did=There is at least 1 video of that out there (I've seen it). And to see a REAL perf (w/ great accompanists M Garson piano & Ronson guitar!)
go to "David Bowie - Time - 1980 Floor Show Midnite Special". THAT is what Sat Nite TV held 30 years ago (versus tonite on SNL Katy Perry & Robyn=in 30 years we all go who??)
@void99 The fact he resembles Kurt cobain meens nothing. He clearly is meant to portray iggy pop. If you knew anything about iggy pop.... You would certainly be awaare of that.
LOL kurt cobain had nothing to do with this movie. Curt Wilde and Brian Slade are modeled after iggy pop and David Bowie. Thus bowies alter ego, ziggy stardust, reminds you so much of slade. Curt Wilde does incorporate some lou reed (just the elcetroshock part). Kurt cobain was grunge not glam rock.
@StevenLoos No it could, it would just completely tank at the box office. Look at Scott Pilgrim: great and completely original/ tanked at the box office. Transformers 3: mind numbing, hard to watch piece of shit/ cinematic gold.
i watched this with my friend who is quite religious, uncomfortable about gay relationships and very very sensitive to anything remotely dirty. i made her close her eyes through this whole scence.
I just discovered Jonathan Rhys Meyers back in May and I started watching much of his previous filmwork prior to the Tudors and I must say Velvet Goldmine is one of my favorites. He is totally awsome.
@kozykatz119 ya me too, i started to take attention of jonathan rhys meyers since tudors and i saw this. he really is an amazing actor for being able to act extremely different characters
Holy shit!!!.. the girl leading Ewan by his belt is my mate Lorraine!!!..
She once said that she'd met Ewan!!!.... not that she'd had her tongue down his god damn throat as well!!! Fair fuckin play girl!!!! thats quality!!!!!
@thevoid99 Are you sure kurt cobain was the influence? I think it was more over mick, iggy, and lou. kurt had nothing to do with glam. am I wrong? Why would kurt be an influence?
@BowieIsGod420 Kurt Cobain had nothing to do with the glam rock, he was just a little boy at that time. Therefore he had absolutely no influence to this movie. These characters are based on David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. Be sure of that. Nothing against Kurt - who was very important to his own rock movement, the Grunge - but he had nothing to do with this! Cheers, mate!
@Saladrazalahalahaz that's kind of the idea, i read this david bowie biography that talks a lot about mick ronson being the music genius but david bowie being the stage presence and together that makes it work. it's also kind of a 70's amalgam of iggy pop, jeck beck, brian eno, all of the musicians within the scope of the time
I saw that movie years ago. Great trimmed down glamversion of an Eno classic...Jonathan was born to play this part. Early mature role of Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor is just outrageous! Grand revival of early seventies in its full speldor and regalia.
Yes jonathan is actually singing in the movie, you can read on the credits that the vocals are his :) Also 20th century boy is the placebo version with brian molko actually singing it in the movie :)
Don't usually care too much for these type movies, but I LOOOVE Ewan,he makes this movie. Lots of great cast members-Rhys Ifans,Christian Bale,Eddie Izzard.... Great movie. Thanks for the video,I love this song.

You're kidding, right?? You haven't seen this masterpiece yet??!!!... I know that you're another Peter Murphy/ Bauhaus "freak" so try picturing Peter and Danny giving each other BLOW JOBS on stage as casually as "drinking a fucking glass of water"!!! I'd probably PASS OUT because MY LORD and MY CO-LORD would be doing IN FRONT of me on STAGE what I've ALWAYS suspected they fucking used to do when they were behind closed doors!!! A fucking MASSIVE ORGASMFEST!!!
jrm and ewan are my fav actors ever,my mum sed they were in a film together so i watched it and OMG they r soooooo hot my fav bits wen they kiss but this is my fav song on film
Jonathan Rhys and Ewan McGregor what a fucking pair of UBER-SUCCULENT/ FUCKABLE CREATURES!!!! I'm fucking SALIVATING so much watching both of them together play out my "homo-erotic" fantasies on the screen that I've got a fucking "drool puddle" all over my fucking keyboard!!! No shit!!!
That's one of the great things about this movie, Haynes used (to great effect) the real glam-rock music of the early 70's. Robert Fripp's guitar solo on the original "Baby's on Fire" is stupendously blistering. High or straight, it still blows me away.

A fucking MASSIVE ORGASMFEST!!!

is the music in this movie composed specially for it?
or are those covers?
vacaslocas120 2 years ago
Most of them (at least) are covers. This one is originally Brian Eno's song.

ohh thank you so much for taking time to answer my question
i loved the music in this film hehe
and i thought that they were specially composed for the film

That's one of the great things about this movie, Haynes used (to great effect) the real glam-rock music of the early 70's. Robert Fripp's guitar solo on the original "Baby's on Fire" is stupendously blistering. High or straight, it still blows me away.
