@FizzWolf He has quit this year, just before the Circle tour. He told it to the Q magazine on May 25th this year. You can read about it all about the web. His nicotine abstinence really works miracles. He is in perfect vocal shape this tour. The tone and range of his voice is the best it used to be for the past 6-7 years. And if he persists in his non-smoking he will still improve vocally, because it is how the vocal chords work - they get better when they get rid of cig tar

BTW I like it that he quit. Once smoking made you more "trendy". A smoker was a macho. But times changed and fags are now seen as they really are - they are associated with dirt, bad smell and sickness. And if a vocalist is smoking it is not only a way to damage his health but also his voice!

Is a coughing fit a symptom of hayfever? I and my father and my husband suffer from hayfever and we never have such cough attacks. We would rather sneeze/have runny nose/itching eyes. I thought that coughing is more related to asthma. But on the other hand I heard that the allergy from which Jon suffers is just hay fever. An ailment that is a real nuisance but fortunatelly is not serious or dangerous:) And that can be a real nuisance for a vocalist!
Ya , i feel sorry for his wife putting up w him while smoking. I'm so glade he finally quit.
