  • The glassharmonic sounded better than the entire orchestra together...

  • For sure, the sound is different (I wouldn't say better) with period instruments. For this TV program, I played with the (wonderfull) musicians who played all along it with the various artists invited. For this recording, I used my instrument tuned in 442. To play with historic instruments, I have another glass harmonica tuned in 430 to be as 'authentic" as it is possible to be.

  • Great that someone is actually recording this. But this instrument will no sound right if part of an enseble with modern instruments. The quieter sound of historic instruments can give this piece the correct sound qualities and make the glass harmonica sound in a more convincing way. Thanks for the video it's great anyway.

  • @richterarrau1983 I like when classical music fans use flippant words to seem intelligent and educated.

  • @unionofonion Words like flippant?

  • Am I the only one to notice that this piece ends on a dominant chord, and thus should NOT be played separately? In a Mozart piece like this, the difference is very noticeable.

  • You are right. The piece continues. Then, there is a Rondo. But it is too long to play the entire work (13 minutes) during a popular TV program (actually the more popular dedicated to classical music on a national channel - France 2 - in France). There are many artitsts invited in this program and the goal is just to give an idea and explanations with a part of the works.

  • I'm sorry but this instrument was invented by Benjamin Frankin.

  • @TheWoodsugar THANK YOU!!!

  • lovely :o)

  • i was waiting for some "typical" mozart sound.... aka abusing the musicians lmao i got it at 4:03

i love mozart hes my favorite

  • sometimes it sound good, but other times ti make my head aches... why is that so?

  • The Armonica is at a particular range of hertz where are brain is unsure which to use of the two ways it identifies sound, so it's very surreal and incredible, but sometimes its can be a bit unnerving.

  • Breathtaking! Music is truly one of mankinds greatest creations!

  • Good grief.. does everyone have to quibble and fight on all these things?

I reading through listing to classic music and reading pussy... dick... WTF-

can't anything just be beautiful and enjoyed without all the obscenity?

  • @multuminparvo Oh how I agree with you.

  • Wasn't this device invented by Ben Franklin?

  • yes it was

  • No, but He did improve it.

You should check out Bruno Hoffman's recordings on Candide/Vox if can find them

  • My understanding is that he did indeed invent the armonica (as he called it) after hearing a performance using wine glasses. Others though have taken this instrument and attempted to improve on it.

  • You sir are an ignorant abusive bully. Do every one a favour and get some help immediately.

  • This comment is directed to the "crazyfaced" vile fool. By the way...Can you play this piece sir?

  • My finger slipped dont worry about it.

  • TA SPAEEIIII....

  • sounds like something from "Loom" :o

  • That is the most amazing instrument I've ever heard! 5 Stars!

  • Benjamin Franklin invented that instrument.

  • Interesting and beautifull sound ..

I've never heard it before ...

  • i thin the harmonica would be better by it self....

  • holy spit

  • gosh this is so soothing!

  • Who rated ARound's comment down? Different strokes for different folks. I think the glasses sound stunningly beautiful, but I can see how they might grate on somebody's ears. Don't rate someone's comment down just 'cause you disagree with their point -- thumbs down should be saved for people who make retarded comments like "lol wut."

About the video -- it is WAY awesome to see an instrument like this in an ensemble like this. Great blend of timbres. I love it!

  • TheRealmsOfGold this was banned in Germany....it was believed to call the dead from their grave! And thanks for the feed back!

  • Anytime :-) It's not still banned in Germany, is it? Sometimes those old laws take a long time to get changed.

  • No...if you have been to Germany, you would see that most of what is wandering the streets HAVE been called from the grave!

  • Oh har har har :-D

Last time I was in the German-speaking world, I remember attending a performance of Schoenberg's opera "Moses und Aaron." (By the way -- BEST OPERA EVER.) The audience was me, a few students older than myself, and thousands of really old people. I remember laughing and thinking, "I'm surrounded by music nerds who probably learned this stuff from Schoenberg himself!"

  • TheRealmsOfGold Schoenberg may have been in attendance......BEER is a proven preservative!

  • I think Benjamin Franklin invented that. I may be wrong. Something to google. I do know It was banned in some places by the church and government because it was believed to cause fits of frenzy with it's hypnotic tones.

  • He did invent it :)

  • wonderful piece and instrument ,long live mozart

  • OHOHHHOOHO! MUITO LEGAL...

  • the strings use constant vibrato... not used in mozart's time shouldn't been too... Since the vibrato controlles the mighty over tones.

  • True, but Nothing wrong with "shaking it up" a bit!

  • well that may differ from taste to taste.

  • oh my goodness...... it looks like they can cut there fingers..... i love it

  • Mozart knew very well the glassharmonica thanks to Dr Mesmer and his niece whp played it. He has composed this piece especially for it (Adagio and Rondo K.617 - you can hear a part of the Rondo played on another Youtube video) .

  • amazing!!!
