The era of JD and the Stamps, the Staples, The Blackwood Brothers and all the others is what sold me on Southern Gospel music back in the '60's. And, JD was just as good just before he died as he was then. Gotta love em!
Around this time JD invited me on the stamps bus. We talked for a good long while. JD was a very special person to me. I was devastated when he died. Hard to believe it's been 10 years. I saw him perform one month before his death. He sounded great right up til the end.
the last time i seen jd before he died we where at church and he sang a song and the church is soild brick and he shook the walls and floor that is how good he was and still is .
I never really liked Rick Strickland (I always get the image of Kermit the frog when hearing him sing), but this time his voice really blends well with the rest of the Stamps.
I'm a huge fan of JD, but don't prefer this 1990's stuff. They did some great stuff, but it isn't as good as his contributions to the Masters V, Statesmen or his 60s/70s Stamps.
But this song gives me goosebumps... thanks a lot for sharing
Holy Cow! J.D. Sumner wasn't a bass! He was a MONSTER Bass! He has such a beautiful bass voice, and boy could that man literally go below the rector scale with ease! I know he's rumbling away on a Double-Low C up in heaven right now! R.I.P. J.D. you're a Legend!

I agree, I never thought R. Strickland was much of a tenor outside of the Muppets, I think Bill Baize was the best the Stamps had.

Well, Whether or not Rick (Strickland) was good is irrelevant when it comes to singing for Jesus. Just my opinion and mine alone.

J.D. Sumner was indeed in a league of his own.
