EASIER WAY FOR PEOPLW -

record yourself watching an orange unopened and a blue unopened portal in the game then just mask out that part of the video onto your video when u shoot the first portal then when you shoot the next one videotape where the 2nd one is before and mask that video onto the middle of the portal.

as well as doing this for the other portal as well. :)

i hate how people make the portal way too small...in real life it would be about six feet tall for a human to go through it..and you dont have to fit the entire portal on the screen its alright(and would probably look way better)to cut it off about half way..im not saying YOU did it rong(cuz i know this was just a tutorial) or any thing im just saying.

Using Source SDK, create a hollowed out box as a Portal map. Run the game and run your map (the map will have no lighting), enter mat_fullbright 0 into console. You are now in a pitch black room, fire your 2 portals and take a screenshot. All you will see is 2 portals on a blank, black canvas.

@doombutt You don't need it. But rotoscoping (Drawing a mask around the actor) takes forever, so I recommend it. Also, a blue screen can work. Or well, any color screen as long as the object doesn't have that color.

@Waywardson256 you cant just 'change' the color of a portal, and certainly not to orange. a (theoretical) orange portal would be highly unstable and would be of no practical use and in fact very dangerous. the same goes for red and to a lesser extent yellow. if you use these colors for portals on photoshop or aftereffect, you're just gonna come across as being silly and ignorant.
