This whole episode was sad. I didn't get moved by the one with the Dundees, but with this one I did. Especially the part where Michael and Jim say goodbye. For the Pam scene, I was too fixed on her feet.
in the show instead of being with his wife Colorado in real life steve wants to spend more time with his wife and children. he worked with his co-actor for 4 year so yes it was pretty emotional to say goodbye in the show and real life as well.
I bet any money that next season - probably the last, Michael will show up just once more like season 8 Finale or something. The only tv show that i was really excited to watch.
i just noticed that michael was tearing up hard as he said "that's what she said." if you hear it you could tell his voice had that whimper sound. you could tell carell was trying really hard to hold it together.
I think it's interesting that Jim and Pam were the only ones that knew that Michael was leaving that day. This scene is actually what broke me, I thought I'd get through the episode without crying. I thought wrong lol
This scene = everything about The Office that just works. It's dramatic, heartbreaking, funny, intimate, and emotional just like the show.
The whole episode was definitely very different than what I was expecting on the night that my friends and I watched it, but we were all so emotional by the end of it. 7 years of That's what she said's, laughter, and all culminated in this one moment, and I don't think it could have been better. Kudos, Office Writers, for one of the show's best moments ever.
Nothing stays the same forever...as much as I wish it would. I really feel like I'm losing something special. This show as been a constant in my life for many years and it's sad to see my favorite part of it leave. You will be missed Michael Scott.
This final scene has so many parallels to the ending to Lost In Translation, where Bill Murray whispers something in the ear of the girl, but nobody knows what he said. I just wonder how exactly Michael said goodbye.
When The Office ends in a few years, Michael Scott will move back to Scranton with Holly in the season finale. I'm clinging to that hope. So many tears this episode.
@EdgeofDashingness I agree. Nobody wants to agree with me when I say I really don't think this will be Michael Scott's very last appearance on the show. Yes, full time character, he's gone; but I think a lot of the office fans want to see Michael get married and we didn't get that before his departure. NBC has said they are open for Steve Carell to appear at anytime he wishes so perhaps they are planning a future wedding episode? Sounds like a series finale with the return of Michael.
Episode should've ended right here, with Pam watching Michael's plane take off. Instead we get Will Ferrell's terrible character eating cake with his hands. Without Michael this show will be cancelled within a year or two.
i cried
