Let me get this right. You placed the queen in a jar filled what I assume to be soil/dirt. She then tunnels in, creates her nest, and slowly the dirt/soil is excavated to make room for the expanding nest? Whether my observations are correct or not, this is a nice video.

@Bolzan29 as rainhas das saúvas fazem revoadas na primavera. Se você morar perto de campos abertos é só encontrar tanajuras (elas aparecem umas vez por ano normalmente) ou pode pedir para algum caseiro de chácara capturar algumas e te vender um punhado por 10 reais...

@Bolzan29 Saber se elas comem ou não insetos, depende da espécie... saúvas não comem insetos, mas são muito interessantes, pois elas cortam folhas para cultivar o próprio alimento, o fungo.

você consegue encontrar a rainha cavando, se for um formigueiro pequeno. Se ele for grande, não vai ser muito fácil, boa sorte.

@Mk49Brasil use apenas um pote pequeno, de plástico mesmo, sem terra. Vai ser mais fácil de acompanhar o desenvolvimento da colônia. E depois que nascerem as primeiras operárias, vc muda a rainha, o fungo e as formigas pra outro pote. Elas conseguem se desenvolver sem terra.

Que tipo de solo as Saúvas em geral preferem para a construção de sua colônia?Estou usando terra vermelha mas ela parece muito arenosa, tentei adicionar água, com isso a terra ficou com uma textura e umidade de aspecto ideal no início, mas um ou dois dias depois teve o efeito inverso e acabou petrificando...Queria saber se tem alguma recomendação de solo, ouvi dizer que as saúvas preferem um solo menos compacto e mais fácil de se abrir caminho. E quanto a umidade, em que nível é ideal? Obrigado.

Oi, sou fascinado por formigas cortadeira (saúvas), ae esses tempos pesquisei sobre elas e acabei de descobrindo esses videos sobre "fazendas de formigas" fiquei maior empolgado, só que o problema é o seguinte: como arrumar a rainha ? porque para cavar é meio complicado de achar e li também que a revoada é muito difícil de conseguir , existe alguma dica para conseguir "captura-la" ?

e que material você usa na parte de baixo da sua "fazenda" ou seja o suporte ?

@ASDAGF5425 só cave se for um formigueiro novo, com menos de 6 meses, senão vc não vai achar a rainha tão fácil. A revoada das saúvas acontece só na primavera, em alguns dias ensolarados, depois de chuvas. Eu usei somente vidro e plástico no formigário... não precisa de terra, mas tem sempre que deixar úmido, então é bom sempre colocar umas gotas de água lá dentro com uma seringa.
