  • dave weckl still getting better!

  • Hey, is not the brand of drums but the drummer to make it sound great.

  • if only we had $14,000 for a 8x7 tom.

  • @musadrumz Yes, the PHX drums has an insane prize!

  • I don't know every time I see a drummer that hold a left hand grip is kind of weird, it just me but he is good. Now a day when kid learn drums I think most of them prefer modern grip like right and left hand hold the same grip...

  • @majestytd its called traditional grip :)

  • @majestytd depending on the style, traditional grip can offer greater sensitivity and response to the left hand, in most cases. Matched grip isn't exactly modern either, both grips have been around since god knows when and mostly it's all about preference. As a user of both I like to switch between grips mid-gig or mid-song.

  • @bankerdrummer Match grip has been around since ancient times, and Traditional grip originated out of the revolution/civil war tmes b/c they would have drummer boys that would play drum roll offs to tel them when it was time to fire, shoot, or retreat. The drum they carry was slung to the left of they sides, so in order to make it easy to play the snare with their left hands, they devolpe a style of playing the march drum call traditional grip. Match grip is the older of the 2.

  • @slashofdeath thanks google

  • come on he get's paid by Yamaha to tell us how great they are, I don't have a problem with that, but there are def. better brands you can get.

  • Also, does anyone know what snare he plays? I love it!

  • @drumsticks135 It's his Signature Snare, I guess... It has two independent snare strainers.

  • Each drum resonates for days! The phx blows my mind. I can't wait til I can afford one of these kits. They sounds and look just incredible

  • How about Branson of Virgin setting up a drums factory in partnership with Dave Weckl ?

They could call it Dave Weckle Drums...... or "DW Drums" for short

    ha ha ha ha

  • Am I right in saying that that bass drum has twelve lugs ? WOW

Normally, good drums have 10, right ?

  • @Veritas1925 that drum kit has 10 lugs...

  • @datommaster

That's the genius of the man.

He makes 10 lugs sound like 12 !

    :c)

  • One thing I disagree with in this video.

That Yamaha kit should be praising Dave, LOL -Not the other way round !!

  • Dave Weckl's drumming: ----> Seamless beauty !

  • 2:00 onwards........

    GO DAVE !!!!

Live a long life, Dave and put the mediocre in their place.....

    GENIUS !

  • The fill at 1:55 is just so nice. Also at 9:47 is sounds like Dave's getting his Keith Carlock on!

  • its not about the best but dave is the best for ever man!

  • i,m in orr of you mr Weckl,a truely great drummer genius on the instrument, its like you are talking to me, via the skin so interesting and never boring thank you the kit sounds amazing.

  • Don't get me wrong... this kit is nice. but not worth seven thousand Dollars. No drum set is worth that. js.

  • @GenTorrio Craviotto Drums are worth it.

  • @DrumTchr I have a Craviotto snare. it sounds awesome! cheers!!

  • Can anyone tell me what type of pedals he is using?

  • massa esse eu aprovoo.

  • Thumbs up if you want the yahaha PHX or already have one!

  • people can argue on who is the best drummer ever but such a competition cant exist........one thing i have to say is this guy has his shit down

  • Excellent

  • Every time I hear Weckl I learn.

  • Foot work is AMAZING (like all of his work of course but his feets aren't showing as long as his hands) !!!

  • This is not Dave Weckl...it can,t be!

  • @3xp3rt What do you mean it's not Dave Weckl??

  • @3xp3rt - everyone gets old...

  • Number ONE!

  • Love the way his fills flow around the kit!

  • I spoke to Mr. Weckl in person not to long ago and he is a small dude man. But he looked a lot mre rested out!

  • I had forgotten how great DW was... that was perfection...

  • @drumdigger dw drums sound like cardboard imo......their hardware is incredible though

  • @julianisdope Dude what kinda DW do you play... DW's don't sound like cardboard, they sound great and have great tone. It all depends on the model and heads you play with. I'm sorry if you ever played a DW that sounded like cardboard but my collectors will never leave my possession, they sound unbelievable.

  • @ndw9311 i don't play dw....i have a set of sonor delites(incredible btw) Just not my sound man...it was just my personal opinion. Everyone is different and if you are happy with your dw congrats. Sorry i came off a little bit ignorant saying they sound like cardboard.....they do sound good but for me personally nothing beats sonor. Each to his own. Cheers for drums.

  • @julianisdope No big deal man I came off like a bum. Sonor man, I'm sincerely jealous, Sonors sound absolutely amazing. Drums for the win man.

  • damn!! he looks like a zombie!!

  • its a funny thing but ive never wondered what gear dave weckl uses. his playing is so inspiring that thats the only thing i think about when watching a video of him

  • Man, I gotta work on my left hand! His signature sticks are killer, too.

  • the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's an incredible drummer and very humble man. Long may he keep providing amazing inspiration.

  • I would love to know what the hi-hats are, HHX? what type?

  • Comment removed

  • Holy shit, amazing drummer. Been playing 40 years? Doesn't look that old, maybe he could endorse some anti-ageing cream or something as a side line.

  • @jerrysteinberg I think he takes pretty good care of himself - no smoking, drinking, etc.

  • @jerrysteinberg born 1960 ;)

  • Gadd's drumming makes more sense to me

  • wow he aged badly looks unhealthy

still the hell of a drummer though, my favourite no doubt :)

  • Left crash?

  • @DrDavidColmenar HHX Legacy Crash 17" on the 10" tom and HHX Evolution Effeks Crash 17" nearby the hi-hat

  • I know how they came up with this shell combination Dave,,,they copied the idea from the Pearl Reference range,,,

  • classe pura

  • Oh man, I just listened to this, then hit the replay button. What TONE!

  • O Melhor!!!

  • Yamaha rules, but, I'm getting sick of birch, maple, beech, mahogany, you know, all the simple woods. That's why I prefer exotic wood kits, if Yamaha offered insane woods like Koa, Bubinga, Sycamore and such, I'd definitely convert.

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls the type of wood doesnt effect the drum sound noticeably. the quality of the wood does.

also exotic woods come from the rain forest which is bad for the forest because of loss of trees there and the transport causes lots of co2 emission. think about it.

  • hey use remo ambassador, every one, and he use drumsticks vic firth sdwn2

  • está viejo weckl!!

  • Weckl downrated his own clip 5 times out of pity for all the other drummers.

  • what head and sticks are he using?

  • @tiffanynicole78 most likely just coated ambs. over clears

  • 2:09 fuck uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • The Groove learned from Dave Weckl.

  • This guy could play coffee cans and make them sound incredible. He's a magician with a drum kit...with tuning and playing. One sick puppy.

  • my god, if he put clear heads on those floors they would leave holes in the ground...better stick to the coated heads there dave..

  • They sound amazing. How could anyone dislike this?

  • i read they are about $9000...fucknuts

  • Ох етить-ё! Как всегда...)))

  • It's 1.30am but I wanna get up and play after watching this, again. He's so good!

  • I learn't so much from watchin/listening to this guy over the years!! a true inspiration.

God bless u Mr Weckl :o)

  • These Drums are so Freaking awesome. The whole kit sounds amazing....

  • A most gifted human....

  • how old is dave weckl?

  • @blapis89 he´s 51

  • Jesus, that floors are extraordinarily deep sounding...

  • Weckl makes any drum sound nice ...

  • @BateristadeTucson17 yeah lol he could sell a spit bucket as a custom drum

  • @blapis89 yup lol though im a DW Guy myself :pp

  • I have his 13x5" sig snare, best not only for funk but for...blast beats.

  • pure class!!!!

  • is this the maple or ash kit?

  • What is the purpose of having two snare drums, iv'e seen a second floor tom on the left side which seems to make more sense, but dave's one of the best in the world so whatever works for him.

  • @stevebul two snare drums are quite differents ;) it's cool to have two

  • Easily the best drummer on Earth.

  • @jedphelym Totally agree. Saw him live a few years ago. You can't can't appreciate how great he is until you see him live. Amazing!

  • 3 idiots ...

  • Want this vid in HD! :)))

  • This video shows the way a drummer can do easy the almost impossible.

  • Imagen now with a dw drumset! Wow

  • @dahvie01 yea, if he played on DW he would need his head examining, yamaha are FAR better than dw :)

  • @gabbalabbawoop i dont know about far better....but i agree that yamaha have a better more down to earth selection

  • For a demonstration Weckl still plays that kit with awesomeness! It's so smooth.

  • this video will be my source of chops for a looooong time

  • There are 3 hater who have watched this video

  • @torylelandkirgiss 1 is justin bieber haha

  • omg so fluid!

  • This man always sound good but from 15 years ago from now just unbeliabable, amazing and perfect, i saw 4 times live every 6 years and really, this man never stops, always going better and better.

  • Comment removed

  • wow he looks old :(

still a hell of a drummer though :D

  • Does anyone else notice how his voice and rythm of speak is very similiar to Obama's?

  • @vaporarrows HAHAHA!! ur right!!

  • Are all of the cymbals Paiste?

  • @KyuushoZero none of them is made by paiste :)

  • @kamilkubik - SABIAN !!! ( HHX - Evolution ,Legacy and Artisan) !

  • @KyuushoZero

    no, dave plays sabian.

  • thanx yamaha for the no-mullet .

  • is it just me or is he good?

  • @hjalmarolsen It's just you, ha ha

  • when I did a clinic in vancouver, I had the choice of doing the clinic on a phoenix or the maple custom . I chose the maple custom cuz the phoenix had to much power and sound.

  • does any body know what the main snare is it sounds incredible

  • @170adamb It's the Dave Weckl 14" Maple Signature Snare.. This video was recorded in London so that means the snare is 5" deep. In europe we can't order the 5,5" version which he plays often. Although he always prefer to play on his aluminium Signature Snare which Yamaha doesn't produce anymore..

  • @170adamb it's definitely a steel shell. pretty sure it's a Weckl signature 14 x 5 or 5.5

  • @MrDrummerguy33 hey there, the yamaha guys have already got back to me on this and its definately the Weckl sig maple im pretty sure there's never been a steel version.Dont worry though ive got a steel and maple snare and once its been recorded with a bit of studio magic i cant tell which is which lol

  • @170adamb Yamaha used to make Dave Weckl Signature series Aluminum snare drum, in both 5.5X14 & 6.5X14.

  • @scorchwhammin I know,i'm sure there was never a steel one though

  • @170adamb You are correct..Yamaha never made a steel dave weckl snare..:)

  • eu estudei com ele 2001 tenho 6 yamnaha e tenho essa tambem meu 6 cd e segundo dvd em 2011 demais......e mias completo musicalmente do mundo....sem comentarios.

  • I had the chance to check out the PHX at the Musikmesse 2008, and they sound amazing. Really different from what is on the market today. BUT I'd never spend more than 3000 EUR's on a 5-piece kit. Better to invest that money on cymbals and hardware and monitoring and ...

  • what depth rack toms are those?

  • @McYaballow 10x7 & 12x8

  • You know the PHX series drums already sound awesome. With Dave playing them, the drums probably sound that much better! It's like the new PHXDWKL series. This guy has been my favorite for almost 20 years!

  • Wow! Dave is getting better.... :-D

  • 1:14!!! Elvin triplets!!!! ;)

  • would love to hear this with flat EQ settings.

  • it sounds like the mapex kit of Gregg Bissonette,

  • A VER SI APRENDES A TOCAR TRONCO.

  • lets not forget, the drummer and the tuning have as much to do with the sound as the construction. a bad player and poor tuning can make a great kit sound lousy, but a great player with proper tuning can also make any cheap kit sound relatively good. the differences in the super expensive kits are noticeable, sure, but more subtle than alot of people think.

  • @emilshere i agree, i also feel as if people shouldn't go more then $3,000 tops for a professional kit. I love yamaha's gear but shit $6,000 is outrageous !

  • @emilshere

    absolutely correct.

  • Neal Peart who?

  • Best sounding drums I have ever heard, I hope to get a set one day.........

  • omg im in love with the sound

  • How can Yamaha justify the utterly ridiculous price of these kits?

  • @jonescrusher1 with their fantastic sound... i mean just listen to them

  • @c0d3x001 Sure, but they're retailing at 9000 pounds for a five piece kit in the UK! Nothing sounds that good.

  • @jonescrusher1 very true indeed

  • @jonescrusher1 Agreed, Could buy three dws for that lol

  • @jonescrusher1 if you've played a phx kit you'd know how :)

  • fuckin excellent. i would like to see him maybe experiment with the double kick more. but ya, i know he's just showin the kit and stuff

  • Dave you played beautiful has always for my taste the yamaha oak has broken the mold has far as drums go for me. Pending on the attack those drums command and then with the right heads they are so melodic at the same time and talk about bottom i just purchased a kickport in my bass 22' just to see whats good or different my soundman and bass player lost there minds and im trying to be kool and not act excited and I went to the back of the hall to ear for my self and i Busted two nuts! haha! OAK

  • best drummer ever lived

  • Man!!! Thumbs up for Dave!!!

He's a damn grooving machine also I love his technique....

Good Presentation, I've enjoied it ;)

  • You are all making stupid comments when there is a genius on the video. Grow up!

  • Control

  • this kit gives me an E-rock-tion!

  • Comment removed

  • what a player and sound :)

  • When in doubt, roll, and then come back in in time and in the right bar or with some drummers the right song>lol

  • I'm assuming the 2 people out of 390 that disliked this love the kit but don't like Sabian. If not then they look pretty stupid. Considering they are 2 out of 390 of course. Did I mention they are only 2 people out of 390. Yeah just thought I'd throw that in there.

  • @Pandanobear people who dont like sabian suck...sabian is awesome

  • @jp60476 you speak the truth.

  • @Pandanobear you're saying that because they're a minority they look stupid? I think you're the one who looks stupid here. I would assume the people who disliked the people felt that way because of dave weckl's depressing attitude

  • @blaucha58 What the fuck are you talking about? Minority? I didn't say anything about minorities. Chill out man.

  • @Pandanobear you obviously dont know what a minority is then. "they look pretty stupid. Considering they are 2 out of 390 of course. Did I mention they are only 2 people out of 390"

  • @blaucha58 The word minority is not mentioned. I understand where you would get that, but that's not what I meant. They aren't Minority's, they are dumbasses. I play ALL SABIAN too. So let's end this here.

  • @Pandanobear STFU STUPID KIDS

  • @Flaitesexy Caps lock may be cruise control for cool, but you still have to steer, my friend.

  • @Pandanobear lol

  • That set sounds like sex!

  • Don’t touch it!

    Don’t point, even.

    It can’t be played...never

    Don’t look at it.

  • did he loose one of his front teeth? ....

  • @polock2112 There is no middle tooth funnypants:P He's more like a long hobbit with skillz

  • Man, I've been learning so much about rhythm lately and somewhat understanding what's going on makes me realize how amazingly amazing this is.

  • Dave Weckl is the most liquid drummer ever....his approach just FLOWS. A true inspiration

  • :O OMG!!!

  • I am surprised that none of the drummes has their eyes digged out :) I mean, look how close to their eyes those sticks are flying all the time.

  • @dvamateur We do and it hurts and we look very silly!

  • 7:45 Mr Weckl your like a fine wine! nuff said! I'd be more then happy to be 1\2 the drummer Dave is! Practice makes.....

  • great sound!!

  • For someone with such a gift he seems such a sad pissed off guy..alll the time.

  • @tindrum You obviously do not know Mr. Weckl - great drummer, and better human being. YouTube is great for videos; unfortunately, too many Haters. Come on.

  • @coreybondurant ooh no dont get me confused with those bottom feeders, I have rarely seen him crack a smile and be "nice". I would however state that he is a phenom, always was a startling player. No dont mix me up with those guys...eeek, I just want to see some joy in him.

  • @tindrum Thanks tindrum for responding. I've studied with Dave and know him to be very kind, funny and personable. Attend one of his clinics and check the newer instructional dvd - lots of fun, smiles, etc. Don't get me wrong; he's a serious dude - that intensity comes through in his playing and virtuosity.

  • The king of drems! Não sei o que eu to falando não falo ingles!
