I may agree with you about today's shallowness, but I could recommend you a great deal of ITALIAN bands which could really make prog rock. Brits and Greeks know them better than we.
I dont really agree, on the 70's we had some of the best prog rock bands even if we needed 20 years to understand their music, well some of us anyway. names like Banco, PFM, Le orme just as example, today where are the equivalent nowhere and here I agree with you, but is not really just an Italian problem is generalized...

just goes to show the misery and shallowness of our
pop italian culture its still like then now -maybe even worse cause there are no more brits or greek expatriates enriching our musical scene
