Okay, all movies tend to screw historical facts. Anyone who does not research it and takes it's accuracy for granted is a moron. Just enjoy the song and laugh at those suckers. Don't waste your energy on trying to correct them. And since I'm posting anyway, I LOVE this song, thanks for uploading it!
I'm amazed by the power that Eva and Peron had. They had support from 80% of the population. When 80% of the population supports something, the other 20% have no choice but to go with it. Something like this would have never worked in the US.
@rebachick94 something like this will never work in the US or in UK but it worked perfectly in italy, germany , spain and portugal : it is fascism . And now a days it is called the justicialist party in Argentina and is the most popular party with 70 % of loyal people.
@vampyre4208 Your stupidity is amazing. "Socialist" - like all other words of this form ("capitalist", "atheist") - is both a noun and an adjective. "Socialistic", like all other words of this form, lost currency about 1874. Your use of it (less so than your ignorance of Argentine history) shows you have a lack of familiarity with the topic of socialism, and any coherent modern commentary of it.
@dalellll lol, ok. "Socialistic isn't even a word" that is what you said right? Socialist isn't an adjective....remedial english will help you with that, the correct adjective form is socialistic. Don't throw out platitudes and think you're correcting someone when you have no fucking clue what you are talking about....that's all.
@vampyre4208 Pardon me, I said "socialistic isn't even a word" without realising that it had currency a hundred years ago (and among barely-literate talk-show commentators). Just one of those situations where being literate, and having some knowledge of the lingo in modern political discussions, can be a disadvantage. Makes it tricky to communicate with dipshits. :)
@vampyre4208 You're an idiot. First of all, it's "tyranny", not "tyrany". Second, "socialist" is the adjective, "socialistic" is not a word. Third, "socialist" means full democratic control of the economy, not "one man rule". Fourth, Argentina has never been socialist. It has had plenty of bloodthirsty capitalist dictators, though. Peron was better than most of them, and he appealed to the desire for socialism, but he couldn't deliver it. Fifth, you're an idiot. Really. A god-damned idiot.
@dalellll School yourself on history before you school on spelling: Tyranny (yeah i missed an "n", who cares) an arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority.

@jodiescookin1 In the musical - and likely with some foundation in reality - because he was becoming too popular an individual. A type of "army council" was ruling the country then, but elections were being held. With some constraint on who could run for elections, and quite some pressure on "undesired" candidates. People could be mobilized by his fiancé Eva singlehandedly in the musical, in reality she most likely played a rather minor, if not insignificant role (she did have a radio show).
@dinavienna She was actually more of a real-life Cinderella, being rescued from poverty by Peron, and was a major Argentinian cultural icon and rallying symbol for the Argentinian proletariat. She was also regarded as the most beautiful woman in the world. There's a reason why her body was preserved and is still on public display in Buenos Aires.
@northrupthebandgeek Well the "rescue" is a little far-fetched.. She was a B-movie star and an A-radio star you'd say. She'd been dating many wealthy men and lived quite a life in luxury for several years. She was hugely popular for her radio show, in which she did agitate for Peron. While she may not have had the biggest bank account, she was paid nice appartments, clothes, fur, jewellery for quite a few years by changing wealthy lovers.
@northrupthebandgeek Uhhh. Eva's body hasn't been "on display" since before Peron was removed from office in 1955. They lost her until the 70's and then she was buried in her father's family tomb. Which is not see-thru.
