OK I LOVVVVE Dolly, don't get me wrong. But this song is so ridiculous and maudlin and obvious and manipulative, almost like a SNL skit. "A big auto hit her..." HAHAHAHAHAHA. And how many times can you work Mommy into a song?
@sweetcharlie63 Depends on how long it is and how you style it. I do mine like this and im 30, is that bad? She is one of my many heroes. Love her and many more of her days. I DO NOT like new country now days, it is like pop or rock. no meaning or feeling and no class, no style either.
Awesome video, for fans of acoustic singer songwriter music, have a listen to SION RUSSELL JONES. Sion just released his debut album entitled 'And Suddenly...' available to download on itunes and Amazon. Also available to hear for free on Spotify. Enjoy x
I read this song is one DOLLY` loving mama use to sing to her as a child,,DOLLY begin to write those tearjerkers about children dying after she begin to record since this type of song was typical of her smokie mountain heritage!
Thank you for posting this beautiful Song toniedu. Been ages since I heard it and now to learn how to sing it properly. I love listening to Dolly Parton
This one is dark, and morbid, but sweet at the same time. Oddly, it reminds me of a song Bette Davis sang, in the old movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" That song was called, "I'm Sending a Letter to Daddy".
Dolly, I will always love you, but I'm having a hard time looking at you lately. You look like a caricature of your younger self. Please cease the plastic surgery and show us how to age gracefully.
"I don't believe, there will ever be, another beautiful, story-telling, song writting, artist/musician,...than the wonderful DOLLY PARTON!" " In My Heart, She, & Her Music, Are In A Special Class, All Of Her Own!"
I think it is where you are in life where your sympathies lie. I have a little preschool girl so I cried when she was hit by the car, but perhaps when I`m a widow who looks forward to visits from my daughter and granddaughter, my sympathies will lie with the old man who is left alone.
The song is about a child. She is not considered old enough to need to 'repent & believe'. "suffer little children to come unto Me". Could you please explain your comment.
I am 41 yrs old and used to talk about this song and NO ONE remembered it and would look at me like I was crazy. I want to THANK YOU so much for posting it. It brings back of lots of memories and proves I'm not totally crazy. Thank you sooooooooo much!!
Looking at her hair reminds me that I need cotton swabs.

The higher the hair, the closer to God.

Perhaps it was. I just remember Dolly in an interview, saying it when they tossed up some 1960s footage of her.
