HAHAHAHAHAAHAHA Murphy's law for the Belgians. Anything that could go wrong has gone wrong for them.

The Belgian commander is completely responsible for this dreadful defeat. He outnumbered the German attackers by seven to one + was in arguably the strongest fortress in the world.

Removal of his filing cabinets was sixth in order of priority but he made it first.

If they had trained they would have known the AA guns did not work properly. Only around 200 rounds were fired. These guns were refurbished captured WW1 German models.

He had four hours warning but did nothing as shown here.

I visited the site in September 2009. The fort forms part of a geological feature which is not typical of the low countries and is an excellent defensive position. The long underground tunnels are very impressive.

Before visiting I had already seen this film and having done so was all the more impressed.
