  • Oh like my cool italian friend once said, i watched the movie without the 3d graphics so i couldnt appreciate anything! i absolutely depised it, most over rated movie of the decade if not the centurey, i think. By not trying to be racist, guess what? they were. colouring the minorities blue, and you call the invaders 'aliens', yeah right. Not to mention the bestiality, when they link their tails to the flying unicorns, you know what else they use those tails for? you guessed right, sex. 3D only.

  • I wish I were like the youngturks too!

  • Avatar was fun ! You can watch it here watch-avatar-now , net

  • I dont understand the stuck up "critic" guys who slam on the movie because of the plot. Sure it was simple. But it was well told with an amazing atmosphere. I loved the fuck out of this movie.

  • The CG made me feel like I was on drugs. In a good way. :D Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 90%, right? That's generous for them. I liked Avatar. It's true, the plot is very predictable. Half way through the movie, you know how it's going to end. In my opinion, the last part seemed forced. "Let's stretch the struggle to make this movie last an average length of time." But the art is brilliant. And I'm not just talking CG. The design of the alien jungle is pure genius.

  • Yeah Shwanerd what you are describing around the vicinity of 4:58 and some before, is the difference from the red-blue 3D glasses and what the good ones are, which use polarized lenses. One lense filters out horizontal light waves, the other vertical light waves.

  • Plot was clichee and purile. gfx were boss of course though.

  • Better then Cats?

    Never.

  • I have one science pet peeve about the movie, all the animal life on Pandora are sextapods, they have 6 limbs, but the Na'vee are tetrapods, they only have 4 limbs, they don't even have marks or vestigial remains of 2 extra limbs. Also they had nostrils above their mouths while everything else seemed to have nostrils for breathing in their chest (separate from the eating hole, a good design.) I know the aliens had to be similar to humans, but they had to match the other life a little better.

  • My review in one world: Underwhelmed.

Extended review: Quite under-motherfuckin'-whelmed a goddamn lot, even though I didn't expect shit!

  • My opinion was that the movie was 8/10.

Not one bit of it was original, but everything they did they did extremely well.

I think it was all predictable. But I didnt care because quickly I understood what I was going to get out of it.

I actually didnt care one bit about any of the characters because they were too boring and predictable.

But the script was good and the action was great, and the plot went so well, I was engaged.

The transition from scene to scene, well done.

  • As for the creativity, I think they were very creative with the aliens.

Alot of it reminded me of Hayeo Miyazaki film Mononoke Hime.

The animals were generic, but I really liked the indiginous population.

The dragons were well done. Flying scenes were great.

    --------------

I saw it in 2-D because 3-D cost a fortune. I paid $6.50 to see it, and I dont have the money to pay $9-12 for a movie.

    Already hated spending $6

  • Hrmmm... I was just confused by most of the planets life forms being six limbed, but the "humanoids" had four. Reminded me of a wholly CGI movie where humanity was intending to take over a planet as Earth had been destroyed (can't remember the name).

  • The plot of this movie was fearly predictable but like you guys said, it was well told so it wasn't a bad thing.

It's like, there are a million hero's jurney stories in the wourld, probably more, but the ones that we remember are the ones that are told well. This might have been a storie we've heard before but I think it is told very well here.

Also, the mo-cap effects and 3D are so good that I could belive the charecters.

  • That thing with the "hipster" glasses has actually been around for a little while now. I whent and saw Monsters vs Aliens, UP and I think Star Trek as well in that type of 3D. It's WAY better than the old style however, with Avatar I was sitting a bit further back than I usually do and I noteced that things there wher only partway in the frame tended to be blury around the edges.

  • I intend to buy the dvd too! I fucking loved it!

  • Awesome review guys.

  • YEah. Sweet review. Dances with Smurfs, i mean Avatar, was super sweet.

  • Completely agree.

  • I would say that Avatar was really good myself. I was glad to go when i was asked. Definitely worth watching again.

  • Why did you not either turn off, or unplug your phone from the wall?

    Katalyzt

  • it wasnt as dark or "adult" in terms of character depth and plot complexity as cameron's other scifi, but it was worth it. i want to see it in 3d though :)

  • it amazing in 3d

  • Buy the DVD!? What age do you live in?:p

  • @waksibra not all the youngans have ps3s. lol.

  • You could have just turned the phone off.

  • you get hyper with company.

    this perturbs me somewhat.

I like your regular calm, collected demeanor better.

  • I'd be more perturbed if a young man acted like a middle aged old fart ,lol.

Merry Christmas ShwaNerd ,enjoyed your video's this year

  • Any plot can be de-constructed so as to appear to be derivative of almost any other, we've been telling each other stories for thousands of years so plot originality isn't a big factor for me in movies. To those bitching about the "white guilt/race traitor" aspects of it, I think that says more about you than it does about the film and you're missing the point. Its a morality tale, what the humans were doing was wrong, rooting for them would be like rooting for the aliens in Independence Day.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • Seriously, was I the only one who disliked Custers last stand 2, this time it's personal?

  • I saw this movie. It kicked ass. Me and my friend are also doing a review.

  • and Holy shit Shwa you watch TYT. *bows*

  • I watch TYT also! ManicRevelation, watch Avatar! I actually felt a bit emotionally tugged (not crying mind you) when a certain thing was breaking down. It was a very good movie! The 3d kicks ass and i saw it twice (once with friends, once with family) and i only like it even more. I might see it a third cuz my family wants to see it with my mom and we were forced to sit in the third row so we didnt get the full impact of the effects. SEE IT!

  • Futuristic Dances with Wolves was exactly what I thought after seeing the extended preview. People go invade peaceful, non-invasive what-not, person on one side experiences other side, person fights back blah blah.

Sounds good to me. I'll go watch it.

  • Avatar's plot seemed very empty and pasted from other sources. I just don't know what to think about this movie. The plot was definitely there, but it's unoriginality left me wanting A LOT more.

There aren't any 3D theaters within 10 hours driving time of my house, so there's no way I'm going to be able to see this movie in 3D. However, I just can't see a better visual experience enhancing it.

Not a bad movie by any means, but I think District 9 was much better. 7/10 stars for Avatar.

  • avatar = pocahontas = many other white guilt movies in which a white guy turns 'race traitor' but avoids losing any white privilege b/c he immediately becomes the leader of the native people.

  • I wouldn't really call it "race traitor" but more along the lines of an awakening of morality. A realization that what he thought was right, was actually very wrong. There's two choices for him after that - ignore the guilt and push away the desire for change, or become a turncoat and be true to himself.

  • I understand where you are coming from with the critique of it being predictable, however, James Cameron has always been about the journey and not the destination. We all knew the Titanic was going to sink but it was the story that took you there. "Avatar" will suck you in and you will enjoy the journey. Go see it.

  • meskxawngé.

  • That was the lamest ringtone ever. lol

  • Oh I know, my mother set it to that D:

  • It seems this movie really was worth the 15+ or whatever years Cameron took to develop it. Though I think that time was obviously just for the special effects. It's already made back it's budget close to a week after it's release. You guys think it will break his Titanic record? I've never seen a movie break it's budget that fast.

    Anyway, good review! FUCKING PHONE!

  • wasnt this REAL 3D glasses like in UP? Its black lenses? People here in NYC are wearing them, on the street, as if they are cool.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The CGI was great, loved the fact that James tried to stay to what could be scientifically possible unlike another film *cough "2012" cough* in terms of tech, biology of plants and lifeforms.

The only that bothered me in Avatar, like Terminator Salvation is/was Sam Worthington's slipping out of an American accent into his native Australian and back...a lot of the time it was like "bam" noticeable. ^.^

    Definitely give it a 10/10

  • They already make some games in 3d. There is a monitor you can but that allows you to play LFD and several other games.

  • I loved this movie. I would have called it movie of the year, if it didnt cost 10 times that of district 9.

  • video no play

  • refreshy

  • PHOOOOOOONE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Icerama108

It appears to be the bane of my existence.

  • Also I think camera and the phone are plotting against you. O:
