  • girls with cleft chins, FTW!!

  • There's an entire community on youtube based around collecting retro computers, consoles and games.

At the risk of appearing to spam, I'd say check the links list on my channel, if anyone's interested in seeing some of those people/channels.

  • I don't understand what she's saying.

    I can't concentrate.

    Ellie Rountree is hypnotic.

Ellie Rountree is the cure for a crappy day.

Ellie Rountree brings a smile to my face.

  • At 3:03 Ellie says that the Altair 8800 is made by Texas Instruments, I read all 215 comments, ok i had nothing to do! and not one person picked up on this massive Error, My dear Ellie i know you were not even born in 1975 when MITS released the Altair 8800 but that machine is the reason you have a shiny iMac on your desk today, the Altair by MITS not Texas instruments!!! is the seed that spawned

the personal computer industry. is it nitpicking? YES but its important, Keep on Rocketbooming!!!!

  • @brail207 Yeah you are absolutely right. I catched the error, But did you know that Kenbak was the first ? I did not.

Anyway gorgeous Ellie should put a note on the top of her video.

  • holy shit.......the nes sells on kijiji for $50......

  • Very informative video.

  • My current computer goes for $600. Not because it's a classic. That's just how much it costs.

  • How did you get that sweet office there Ellie? May not be big, but you have alot of windows with a great view. I'd fight you for that office...lol.

  • I got one of the floppy disks I used for highschool homework, my first USB flash drive, a burned external HDD (which original was inside of my first Laptop) and a SD Card in a pseudo-museum in home.

Its completely financially worthless, but I love it!

The best about this sort of stuff is their ability to take us back to simpler, happier times Great video Ellie!!

  • every now and then I'm surprised when I hear an American accent on this channel :)

  • Did I hear "flawls"?

  • It's a little off topic but I don't suppose anyone knows what keyboard Elle has infront of her?

  • @MikamiPro its teh commodore64, which she is talking about in the video right when it shows that shot.

  • Wow, thanks for the information on RarityGuide. I have a LOAD of old boxed games that I figured were completely worthless.

Looks like I'm going to go on a selling spree when I'm next home!

  • okays, so so far they ahvea a blonde, red-head and black . . .

    WHERES THE BRUNETTE ?~!?~

you need to make a contest for her ~

  • Lookin' pretty, Ellie.

  • WOOHOO! I have a Comedore 64!!!

  • Hahaha original ibook from 2000. So buggy, I recently hacked (literal) it with my sword out of frustration I had through my high school years with it. Then trashed it.

  • 3:13 Molly looks really sad :(

  • ok , am i the only one to see that this video is damaged

  • Now this was extremely interesting.

Not only did it show me I was geeky beyond imagine, but it was just super interesting.

  • I don't know if it's the camera, but Ellie's neck is starting to look kinda fat. We need to get her to lay off the Twinkies.

  • This girl rely knows about Tech. And also Very Hot tooooo!!!!!

  • Great informative video! Keep it up, Rocketboom!

  • Alright, ROCKETBOOM, I have to say this. I don't usually like calling people out for stuff like this, but I feel that as you're a collaborative effort with employees, I can expect from your channel the quality content you usually deliver. This may seem picky, but I was quite put off by the low-res Pollock image you used, especially after your HD footage and high quality images of Demoiselles D'Avignon and Starry Night. I hardly believe there wasn't a larger Pollock on google.

  • ...DS Lite?

  • Earth Bound <3

  • Man.. I had one of the Motorola BRICK phones (not the small but the largest unit they made) circa 1992(!) and even after I got a newer upgrade, kept it for a LONG time.. finally getting rid of it in one of my moves in maybe 2000 or so :-(

  • oh no! I would really love to modify one of those to essentially house my current cell phone.

  • D'oh! Actually, I would love to do that too!! Sorry, donated it I think to good will (or sold it at a garage sale) 10 years ago:-(

  • Hey I got the same all-in-one printer!!

  • Yey, collect garbage!

  • A lot on eBay named "This Is the Same C64 Molly Tossed Aside For Fun, Threw Off Out of Anger And Stroke Out of Charity".

I can hardly imagine a price this one would be auctioned off.

  • i would do her...

  • thanks for the site!

  • Mint Chrono Trigger and Earthbound? Man, brought back some memories to me. I'm still proud to own a CT cartridge.

  • Boon Dang Left Side Tear

  • wow... she looks a lot like Jessica Biel! Hot

  • I wonder how much my Monolith will go for.....

  • rocketboom is soooo awesome, i love you guys and especially andrew for doing it for this long. i remember when amanda was doing this and the show has come a long way.

  • So when purchasing new items instead of just considering their present value we should also consider their future value?

Hmm... How do we keep them in stasis to prevent them from aging?

  • Lol, Commodore 64 after AVGN

I didnt know rocketboom used it.

  • Are you serious? I have that game - Stadium Events

  • ????

    Profit!!!

  • My jaw literally dropped at the sight of that mint Earthbound box.

  • lol I remember that scene on saved by the bell

  • Earthbound! HELL YEAH

  • BOOOOOO ,we want molly!

  • You girls on here can get as many dates as you want too from these dudes!! lol

  • dam i would FACE FUUQQQ the shyt out of her

  • Well I have the old Nitendo with control work real good and about 20 games I will like to know how much will sale for ?

  • I got a TRS-80 and it pwns nubs to

  • Waterworld without manual is pretty much worthless... but then again, not like you can use em properly anymore anyway.

  • I've still got a Commodore 64!

  • ZOOOMMMGG CHRONO TRIGGER AND EARTHBOUND FIRST SHOWN! My love for this show grows daily. <3 <3 <3

  • How does covering your old tech with pokemon stickers affect their value >_>

  • where's molly?

  • she's at 3:13

  • lol swordquest, after the AVGN video

  • A lot of old cartridge games have gone down in value thanks to the Wii's Virtual Console. I still have Simcity for the SNES and its value on Ebay plummeted when the Wii came out in 2006.

  • 5Star for Molly

  • I have zelda majoras mask with manual and box

    how much is that worth?

  • @thegodofs Probably not as much as Orcarina, but im guessing somewhere around $20 to $50, and up to 150 if its new. Try putting it on ebay, and you may get more than its worth.

  • I'll w8 untill like 2020 when NO one but adults know what it even is...

then it'll be a colectors Item and I'll get...

    OVER 400!!!!

    maybe...

  • What is one person's trash is another one's treasure. I know someone with a collection of vacuum tubes! Talk about old technology. Definitey museum pieces there!

  • Damn, Ellie makes my knees so weak!!!

  • That shot of Molly was cuter than a puppy hugging a bunny on a pile of marshmallows.

  • but both become sticky with action

  • rocketboom needs a better outro. this one is just so subtle and dull

  • Is Rocketboom sponsored by Apple?

  • Nice research.

  • CHARGE EBAY !!!!!

  • My father has a garage full of near-mint Commodores.

  • WTF is with molly's freaky ass expression at 3:14?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheUltraDude It's from the episode "Old Technology PSA" here: ?v=Od4Kuqk-Xb0

  • NO U

  • Nice one Ellie.

My work has a small phone musium, including one with a shoulder strap!

I modded a Subwoofer into a Machintosh 128k once, so cute, you used the disk drive to turn it on.

  • So fucking hot i can barely pay attention to what is being said.... Hotty brunetty,,,,,

  • Oooh I got a iBook but I plan on keeping it.

  • i build computers and look around at salvation army, yard sales, etc for older computers with unique cases. to make them functional i have to gut them and usually build a better computer than you can buy from any name brand company. one thing is windows7 looks kind of crappy on a crt screen

  • @nt0xik8ed almost everything looks relatively crappy on a shitty screen

  • it's impossible to find a white flat panel monitor to match most of the earlier cases, too

  • I love every video Ellie makes! The topics are very interesting and Ellie is a great reporter, but I am not selling my old Nintendo.

  • luckilly you can get arrested for throwing away electronics now!

  • Commodore 64, 2 of those in my attic with around 100 games. all with original packaging.

  • @P0P357UR3 worth thousands

  • you think so? I've even got the C64 musical keyboard thing.

  • Interesting segment :)

  • I love collecting old computers :-)

My dad still has his brick phone.

  • This chick is a babe and her hair is really bouncy.

  • word

  • Molly please

  • no, elly is better

  • opinions

  • This made me dig out all my old stuff. Wanna hock it!

  • That's so random, I was just looking at my old Apple IIgs yesterday...

  • Wow.........Commodore 64.........when I was six I learned to program on one of those. You had to input the code (Basic) to RAM and write to an external cassette tape.....I almost forgot what they looked like. Great vid Ellie!

  • Ahh yes, funny thing about profits ist they're only bad if others make them. Also Elly seems to be advocating speculation, which is of course the root of all evil.

  • Still waiting on an Ellie and Molly story, pillow-fighting is entirely optional but strongly suggested.

  • *nods*

  • there's a Trash 80 in the Smithsonian - doesn't that make the one in my attic worth something?

  • I still have my NES w/ Super Mario Bros., and a Kirby game. Gonna sell it for a million in about 2050. Yay!

  • Altair had a a computer? whaaaa

  • Wow, I have the iPod 1st generation, no scratches on it because I stickered all over it. =D

  • i'll give you 5 bucks for it, lol

  • fuck apple, i want a peach.

  • Product placement.. ?

  • ywa i fking hate apple products

  • macs suck!!!

  • More of Ellie rocketboom!

  • Apple Sucks!

  • i got a nes for free from a friend.i just need to get a replacement 72 pin connector to get it to work. its not in very good condition but its okay. it just needs some cleaning

  • SwordQuest = epic

  • Rocketboom, you sure love your Apple don't you?

  • Wow, she's charming. HEART!

  • I probably shouldn't have destroyed my old commador 64 with a sledgehammer, huh?

  • I actually thought I had the Stadium Events game but I have the World Class Track Meet game. Which is the exact same game but just renamed. I'll have to see if I have any rare games.

  • I hate apple, just throwing that out there.

  • Very cool, Ellie!

  • where's the ????

  • I would love to show my joystick to Ellie. She could play with it all night long :)

  • she kinda looks a little like Jessica Biel

  • I agree, I am tired of rocketboom kissing apple's ass. Really they are nothing special, just overpriced, underpowered POS's for the price.

  • whats with rocketboom and their constant apple asslicking?...

  • i have the first ibook!!!! im gonna be a rich bitch but i would say its mid conditioned...:)

  • Nice, I'm a console collector, but I'm not in it for the money I just love old games. However alot of my stuff is getting pretty valuable. Snatcher, Panzer Dragoon Saga, etc. Maybe I'll donate them to a museum upon my death and they'll name a wing after me. Oh and btw - thanks for the great video Ellie

  • I'm surprised she didn't mention the Intel 4004 microprocessor.

  • I'm surprised she didn't mention the game.

  • I am placing my HAL 2001 up for sale...just be preapred shipping is going to be a bitch

  • there's no way I am selling my "key board cat" those 1st gen phones make great kindle-ends

  • Where's Molly. D:

  • molly dosnt do rocketboom tech, she jst does the regular stuff.

  • She's at 3:14

  • I can't believe you didn't include the Neo-Geo AES, with games such as US Metal Slug worth $2000 - $3000, or EU Kizuna Encounter, a game with only four known copies in existence worldwide, worth between $10,000 - $20,000. Ellie, I love you; but come on, do your research! This system is one of the biggest treasures in the console world, it should never be ignored!

  • Is it just me or is the picture all pixly and messed up?

  • hmm ... just you

  • Its just you .

Ellie looks amazing as always for me :)

  • you may have caught it when they recently uploaded the video. Or you're watching it on HTML5

  • Ellie's so fine

  • We already knew this.

  • I have that stadium thingy!

    Ima gonna sell it!

    Like NOW!

  • great video, thank you ^^

  • Technological fetishism makes no sense to me... most of these system's value comes from their functionality and that can be easily emulated in a modern computer. The casings are interesting in the overall evolution of industrial design but otherwise pointless.

Also I'm not sure I'd call apple's designs ground breaking. Interesting? Sure... but ground breaking? Far from it.

  • emulation is rarely 100% accurate

  • it depends on how close to the actual implementation you want to get.

If all you're doing is wrapping your source instruction calls around your destination machine's instruction calls (basically an instruction mapping) then yes, I agree, your emulation isn't accurate because of some the particularities of system design (endinaness, floating point format, etc).

Emulation done right it's very accurate. Of course it's also computationally expensive.

The tradeoff is always performance v precision

  • Well I find the most noticable discrepancy between native hardware & emulated hardware is with audio output. Oftentimes when I'm playing an emulated game, the sounds are somewhat off when compared to the audio chipset of real thing. It's a minor gripe, I know, but I love old chiptunes & have been collecting long enough to recognize what system a game is being played on, just from hearing the music. It's an important part of the experience for me..

  • I love playing old NES games but I think part of that is nostalgia. I recently loaded up my old NES and popped in Blaster Master and it sounded the same as on the PC. Mind you my system is really powerful and I'm running an emu (Nestopia) that's known for being precise.

Part of the problem comes down to coding and something like sound and games are different because of the timings requirements (multimedia is harder to emulate).

It comes down to how talented/precise the developers are.

  • Swordquest? AVGN just reviewed both of them! Man he must have some pretty expensive and rare games

  • thank you RocketBoom

I think you may have started off a new interest and past time

  • i wounder if images or videos pictures of old oses and apps will make money ?? wait i forgot they are bits yay,,free!

  • shes better than Molly! meh :(

  • I think ill look for 'Castlevania: Symphony of the Night'

  • 3:13

    molly

    :(

  • @markupRockers lol - just want to take her home and feed her or something.

  • Your Keyboard is super thin.

  • Five stars for Molly!

Not just that though, the video was pretty interesting and not boring to watch :3

  • this is not molly

  • ellie's too pretty

  • What do you think an old Osbourne 1 would go for? It was the first portable computer (even if it was the size of a suitcase and weighed thirty pounds).

  • dammit i sold my NES for 10 bucks at a yard sale...

  • YAY for content!

  • I still have that old Nintendo somewhere though I didn't expect it to be worth that much. Definitely holding on to it for the time being. :)

  • Comment removed

  • favorite part of this video is Molly's sad face when she's cuddling the commodore 64. it's so funny.

  • i love you

  • the best vid i have ever seen in rocketboom.

  • good advice

  • what a cool keyboard.

  • buying old crap

    ???

    Profit!

  • molly boobs

  • she is so fucking hot its not even funny

  • agreed!

  • She kind of talks like Duke Nukem :P

  • Earthbound :D

  • Her hair is so Bouncy!

  • Change the subject from tech products to comic books and you'll get a glimpse into the early stages of the comic collectors bubble.

  • waterworld was just an AVGN episode, weird how the world works!

  • waterworld was well known among nintendo fans long before AVGN mentioned it. now the next generation knows about it too though
