For me, Romeo Dallaire is a hero, but made powerless because of the UN. Kofi Annan who refused to send in more troops and help, who refused to dismantle weapon depots while everyone knew if they didn't destroy those weapons, they would be used against Tutsi's. The story that he told about watching from the UN base to people that got murdered...the sounds you could hear in the distance from people getting killed. No wonder he lost it in his real life when back in Canada. It makes me sick really.
one feels the calling to dawn the blue helmet and rifle. but i would aim that rifle directly at the Security Council, who deliberately told Dallaire that "Rwanda has no strategic value, no value for western soldiers"
Well, without completely pissing all over Dallaire because he was trying to help, why in the HECK did he ever obey the order to withdraw the peacekeepers from that school when he ABSOLUTELY knew those 2,000 people would be killed when they left? I'm sure my limited infomation prevents my full understanding, but it's still a sad event.
@goodfoot1971 you should read his book. he couldnt get information. it was a war for him to get information. he found out bout the death of the Belgians 4 days after theirs deaths
I just saw the documentary of CNN's Christiane Amonpour on Genocide a while ago. Dallaire was a hero because he really tried to help these people. What a powerful story.
