I have just bought the Furuno FCV 585 and can not wait to get it installed. I am going with a Furuno 1kW through hull (flush mount) bronze transducer. I had a question out of curiosity. What is the Lowrance model gps/plotter that you are using? Do you recommend it? Many thanks from España.
Hi, top sounder the Furuno FCV 585, not cheap but well worth it, and great at finding the fish. It's a 10 " Lowrance plotter, only plotter, not sure the model number, was top of the range a few years back. New ones are even better, but they don't have the Icons, I use them to map out the shoals/reefs which is priceless. The new ones have heaps more waypoints though. But am spewing about the icons, very handy. Also very easy GPS to use,
Great vids. I've just picked up a 620. I notice you don't use bottom lock or zoom in your vids. Is that because you already know the spot or do you use those settings for finding ground?
I've been using this sounder for quite a bit now, and once you get used to your favourite settings and we always work about that 50 m mark, there is no need to adjust. Zoom splits your screen and can give too much info. Look closely at the bottom, that's what I'm looking for and when it shows fish, I know they're there, doesn't always mean they're biting but,
hi greg, i just picked up a furuno 620 for $540.00. i see your an expert with these marine electronics. i was woundering if you could give me some advice settings for me. i fish the gulf off florida and dont usually fish more than 45 feet deep. how should i adjust the gain, range, and fish %. i want the best acuracy for high frequency. i like grouper, spanish mackeral. any help would be great. keep up the videos. i allways look foward to more. there great! cheers.
Top sounders/fish finders, and your electronics are cheap, twice the price in Australia. Time on the water and playing with your sounder is the best way. Adjust the gain in Manual, and you shouldn't need to much if in only 45 ft depth. Top video this one, but we fish 50 metres all the time and I set my gain at 4.7 with a 1 kw Transducer through hull, but this will vary with every boat's set up.
We have a 1 kw Transducer for our Furuno FCV 585, not sure the model number, but comes in a yellow wet box which you fibreglass/silicone and cut to suit your hull. This is then filled with cooking oil. You can can bronze transducer which go through your hull, but I don't like this idea, or needs to be done by a professional, or when the boat is built. It's costs a bit more, but well worth it in the long run if serious about your fishing.
The Furuno FCV 585 is an excellant sounder and we get some good results with it, run this sounder on all our charter boats, recommend the 1 KW transducer if you can, Expensive but well worth it,
No doubt the gain setting can vary for each boat and depths, but works well sounding through fibreglass hull at this depth of 50metres. And when it show fish and bottoms means fish, an awesome fish finder.
Our Furuno FCV 585 has the 1kw transducer which is great power, the gain setting I use works well in that 50m range and when it says fish, means fish, and fastest speed for sounding when planing along.
Hello Greg,
Super video - sure make it look easy!

Which 1K transducer do you recommend? I have a Boston Whaler Montauk 190.
Would the Furuno 525TID-TMD be best?
