Matt's performance of 'First Time' on Loose Women has stirred things up. I don't think that many people realized that it is on the Amazing EP. I am assuming that since he performed it there, it will be on the tour set list and as the tour progresses, people will want top buy it.
This from the Bliss interview that came out today "The thing with ‘Starlight’ was we weren’t really aiming for a position in the chart; we just wanted to get it out on the radio and TV. But to get it played on radio, you have to say it’s a single and give it a release date. It’d be nice to chart with ‘Amazing’, and we’re giving it more of a push, but again it’s about promoting the album."
Amazing debuts at #84 on the charts, but it did it's job and Letters is back up to #57 after 19 weeks, one below James Morrison, who I think is the one UK artist to whom you can honestly compare Matt.
@Biilaa1 Well James' style is a bit more soul, while Matt's is more folk/rock, but he is a solo male artist who is not really pop or hip hop. There just are not many of them around in the UK right now to compare.
@Biilaa1 Tour starts Tues. That will probably pull Letters up into the top 40, next week. And if Matt performs 'First Time' in concert, people will buy the EP for it, so Amazing should climb the chart too.
Today I was shocked - OD won the Brit Awards. This is a joke?
My common sense says that there are many other artists who deserve this award more. Maybe MC - why? He is a great musician and he is mainly mature personality. But surely we would find more candidates. Nothing against OD - they are certainly nice guys.
@TheSvorka All of the top selling singles of the year are nominated and the voting is done online by fans. So it is not surprising that a group who's fan base lives online won. It has nothing to do with merit.
@nuimaleko7 If it were on merit then of the nominees either Adele or Ed Sheeran would have won. The 1D song is a good pop tune, but the boys had to be autotuned to make it sound acceptable. So deserving of an award? Not for best award - but maybe they should bring in a category for biggest fanbase.

Yet she and Matt will be sharing the Garden Stage at Isle of White. It puts the importance of YT views into perspective.
@prawncracker76 Letters has averaged 15,000 copies sold (not just shipped) per week in the UK alone. It is bound to do at least that well during the tour but it will slow down during the summer while Matt finishes album #2. When that album is released, say 8 months from now, Letters should have sold 500K. From what Matt says,Letters will then be released world wide and Matt will begin an international tour to promote both albums. Sales should skyrocket from at that point on.
@nuimaleko7 You are deluded if you think Letters will reach 500K copies sold over the next 8 months. The album is selling about 1 or 2k a week at the moment, and sales are in decline. Realistically he will do well to hit 300K in that time frame.
I'm sure that this comment will get thumbed down until It's not shown because Cardle's fans can't face reality that his career has been far from a run-away success.

@steofairc Don't you realize that Columbia is guiding Matt, every step of the way? The weak Barlow single, the weird non-release of Starlight. It all seemed to be sheer stupidity. But if he was an instant success, he could never get what he craves most, credibility. Being invited to perform at the Isle of White Festival with names like Springsteen and Kings of Leon. It is all part of Columbia's plan to make Matt into an international star. That is why they chose to sign him.

@broken259 From what I know about Columbia's plans for Matt, it is to release Letters world wide around the same time as the second album and then tour the world promoting both albums. I expect Matt to be much more successful outside of the UK, because there is no X factor stigma and the world market is shifting back toward rock. I expect Columbia to really play up successful world sales and drive UK sales back up before the end of the year. But of course we will see what happens.
Whatever Amazing is doing, all the press has pulled 'Letters' is back up to #60 on the Official UK Chart. He will be doing big press all week so, it should climb back up into the top 40 and stay there through the tour. That should bring sales close to or over double platinum by early summer. It should get another boost when the second album comes out, because it will come up under recommendations when the second album is searched. So triple platinum or even 1M by Jan. ,1 2013 is no stretch.
I miss Seven Summer too. For me, 7S album is an absolute gem ... And I like some of Darwyn songs too (The Girl and I is my favourite). Anyway, good luck Mr. Cardle with this new EP.
@Rosieade He may very well do a few SS songs on the tour. He did Way To Be at a live gig back in Dec. and said would do some more if he really though people wanted to hear them. The fans asked him to do Violet too, but he said he has forgotten it. He just does not understand how much people love the Seven Summers and Darwyn albums. Tweet him or email Columbia and tell them how you feel about those songs.

it's a beautiful song (like all the others). MC is the winner XF - prejudices simply work. This song would certainly be praised more if anyone another wrote it. In my opinion, the MC is a great singer, songwriter ... he proved his quality earlier - Darwyn. He looks like a pleasant guy. The first time I saw him on youtube for audition XF - he was simply amazing. I like people who do their job with love - and in my opinion he's done. In the Czech Republic we say "break neck" (in GB - good luck).

@weyayeee Matt's lyrics for most of his songs are very poetic, less direct, more like Slowly and Walking On Water, but he wrote the verses for Amazing to match the chorus, which was written by his producer's nephew. Very simple and heart felt. He went on to write Beat a Breaking Heart, Reflections, For You and Faithless in a similar vain. Many of the Darwyn songs, the entire Seven Summers album and Letters are proof of his song writing genius.
@nuimaleko7 I genuinely believe he is one of the best lyric writers currently out there. As you say - poetic. He really hasn't had the recognition he deserves for this.

@yopgun I tried this too, and they said my comments were gibberish? Then deleted them... I said the chorus ripped off another song's chorus, which it does. I then said the lyrics were hardly different from any other pop crap, which is true since the entire song is full of cliches. Then I suggested that Matt probably has co-writers, since most other singers do. They proved me wrong. I apologized. They deleted my comments and denied me the right to entitle my opinion? I agree with you, man.
wish people would concentrate on his voice, not the fact he hasn't sold so many copies. His voice is 'amazing', can't we just all take time to appreciate that?

Blindsighted by reality! 300,00 copies sold is poor, even arctic monkeys managed 2.3million of their 1st album with no publicity at all! his last single hit 165, this will do the same! he will NOT be signed to a major label this time next year! If people like him then thts fine, but not enough do! labels wont pump money into acts with no longevity, its a fact of life unfortunately, average x facor act lasts a year, that is FACT not opinion!

@nuimaleko7 What I'm writing isn't gibberish, it's true for most artists in the music business- other people write their songs for them. But if it's not true in Matt Cardle's case, then I apologize for trolling and wasting your sweet time on my accusations. Those songs sound quite good and i'll check them out. All I'm saying is the chorus rips of the instrumental and almost the tune from Run's chorus. I hear he didn't write the chorus, so I'll leave Matt alone.
@yopgun I don't think so his album has gone platinum:) He also has a practically sold out tour 23 dates!! Record companies don't make a lot of money on single sales, what really matters to them is album sales and tour revenue and he's hit the money button on both of those.

@broken259 Successful singles are what keeps artists in the public eye.. most winners of realty tv music shows have a platinum album.. 300,000 copies sold out of a population of 60 million people in this country alone really isn't many at all in perspective. This time next year he will be gone without a doubt... this single will not make top 10.. he will no doubt fail to sell out a tour completely just like virtually every other winner of the x factor! Not having a dig, but its true.
@yopgun Well Joe and Leon didn't sell well at all so he is breaking the male winners curse I believe they struggled to hit 100k. Whilst I appreciate you are not having a dig quite a few tour dates are already sold out and more have been added all that is left are a few scattered crappy seats right at the back of the venues. I know because I have checked so I have no doubt that he will sell out completely over the next few weeks:)

It has sold around 340K copies right now. It should hit 400K by the end of the tour. And it It will get a boost from the second album, since Letters will come up in recommendations when people view it. Joe's first album went gold when Classic came out. Let's hope for double platinum by X Mass.
@broken259 Columbia has a few singles artists, like Billy Joel, back in the day, but mostly it deals in album artists. That is why, in the words of the top Columbia UK executive,"we aggressively courted Matt". I think Columbia saw that Matt has the potential to be a huge international star, especially in the US. This video is geared to an American country cross over audience. The style is very CMT. Matt has just enough rock, folk and country in his voice and style to have a huge appeal here.
@yopgun Matt was signed to Syco in his X factor contract. After the tour last March, Columbia went to the big Sony bosses and begged them to let them sign him to a full contract instead of Syco, because Simon has no interest in male winners. Simon did not want to let go completely, so they all signed a joint deal. Sony owns 50% of Syco, so Simon just gets a 25% cut of Matt's record earnings, but has no say over his career, Columbia is calling the shots and they are very happy.
@nuimaleko7 follow up on that. Letters and Run for Your Life were released on the combined Syco/Columbia label Simco, but if you go to pre-order Amazing it is listed as Columbia, indicating that Syco's part in Matt's career is over. By by Simon:)

@KaiIsLegend Matt was in a band called Seven Summers before he was on XF. Look them up on Youtube - all the band members acknowledge that Matt was the main writer - he wrote all the lyrics to their songs and the main melodies - the other members helped add to the frame Matt created.

@yopgun I tried this too, and they said my comments were gibberish? Then deleted them... I said the chorus ripped off another song's chorus, which it does. I then said the lyrics were hardly different from any other pop crap, which is true since the entire song is full of cliches. Then I suggested that Matt probably has co-writers, since most other singers do. They proved me wrong. I apologized. They deleted my comments and denied me the right to entitle my opinion? I agree with you, man.

Ha! Fans are always so defensive, never objective! Blindsighted by reality! 300,00 copies sold is poor, even arctic monkeys managed 2.3million of their 1st album with no publicity at all! his last single hit 165, this will do the same! he will NOT be signed to a major label this time next year! If people like him then thts fine, but not enough do! labels wont pump money into acts with no longevity, its a fact of life unfortunately, average x facor act lasts a year, that is FACT not opinion!

@nuimaleko7 What I'm writing isn't gibberish, it's true for most artists in the music business- other people write their songs for them. But if it's not true in Matt Cardle's case, then I apologize for trolling and wasting your sweet time on my accusations. Those songs sound quite good and i'll check them out. All I'm saying is the chorus rips of the instrumental and almost the tune from Run's chorus. I hear he didn't write the chorus, so I'll leave Matt alone.

@yopgun I don't think so his album has gone platinum:) He also has a practically sold out tour 23 dates!! Record companies don't make a lot of money on single sales, what really matters to them is album sales and tour revenue and he's hit the money button on both of those.

@broken259 Successful singles are what keeps artists in the public eye.. most winners of realty tv music shows have a platinum album.. 300,000 copies sold out of a population of 60 million people in this country alone really isn't many at all in perspective. This time next year he will be gone without a doubt... this single will not make top 10.. he will no doubt fail to sell out a tour completely just like virtually every other winner of the x factor! Not having a dig, but its true.

@yopgun Well Joe and Leon didn't sell well at all so he is breaking the male winners curse I believe they struggled to hit 100k. Whilst I appreciate you are not having a dig quite a few tour dates are already sold out and more have been added all that is left are a few scattered crappy seats right at the back of the venues. I know because I have checked so I have no doubt that he will sell out completely over the next few weeks:)

@broken259 Haters have nothing but misinformation, that is why they are irrelevant. Amazing, is doing it's job. Letters will be back up in the top 40 again on Sunday. The tour will help too. It has sold around 340K copies right now. It should hit 400K by the end of the tour. And it It will get a boost from the second album, since Letters will come up in recommendations when people view it. Joe's first album went gold when Classic came out. Let's hope for double platinum by X Mass.

@broken259 Columbia has a few singles artists, like Billy Joel, back in the day, but mostly it deals in album artists. That is why, in the words of the top Columbia UK executive,"we aggressively courted Matt". I think Columbia saw that Matt has the potential to be a huge international star, especially in the US. This video is geared to an American country cross over audience. The style is very CMT. Matt has just enough rock, folk and country in his voice and style to have a huge appeal here.

@yopgun Matt was signed to Syco in his X factor contract. After the tour last March, Columbia went to the big Sony bosses and begged them to let them sign him to a full contract instead of Syco, because Simon has no interest in male winners. Simon did not want to let go completely, so they all signed a joint deal. Sony owns 50% of Syco, so Simon just gets a 25% cut of Matt's record earnings, but has no say over his career, Columbia is calling the shots and they are very happy.

@KaiIsLegend Matt was in a band called Seven Summers before he was on XF. Look them up on Youtube - all the band members acknowledge that Matt was the main writer - he wrote all the lyrics to their songs and the main melodies - the other members helped add to the frame Matt created.
