  • travis barker can suck my left nut!

  • The good news is that there are plenty of videos showing Buddy's greatness. The sad news is that we will never see the like of him again.

  • Man, that guy must have stink so bad after a gig, look at that sweat

  • Bad to the bone.No body played like buddy.

  • it really amazes me when i watch things like this as to what human beings can achieve

  • hahahaha !! the god of DrumS !

  • No body could swing like buddy

  • max roach is more musical

  • Funny how this doesn't have 300 000 hits yet, and a portnoy solo has over 4 million...alot of ignorant people out there.

  • @nodrush80 No, just a lot of Dream Theater fans!

  • ummm... wow.

  • I heard he reincarnated into Neil peart form.

  • This guy has 9 jealous relatives xD

  • Holy Shit!

  • BIG TO REAL

why is barker even brought up.....who the fuck is he...

are we watching the video here?

  • Snaring as fast as he can, it makes ya wonder what he could do to a bowl of fried rice with a pair of chopsticks in his hands.

  • I don't care WHO you are...that's drumming right there...

  • I like to listen to Buddy Rich and he's undoubtedly great. Just to give some perspective on the notion of being "the best" in drumming.

There's really isn't such a thing. Just three quick videos you'll understand what I mean.

    1) Brian Blade playing "Jazz Crimes" with Joshua Redman watch?v=1ICJUFOJa2g

    2) Heracio Hernandez afro-cuban watch?v=kd349Df1Ows

    3) Stanton moore New Orleans watch?v=fWpZ3-4fQbc

It's "the best drumming" but they can't play each other's groove although they'll love the music

  • @3:00..that is so hard to do. i guess 9 people can do it better.....

  • ffffffffffuuuccckkkkk.............

  • Can't watch this without smiling

  • I've been a fan of Travis all my life, but good god this man is amazing! 19 Years old, how have I not seen this before... All I can say is this is truly amazing.

  • the best 3 drummers:

    1: Buddy rich (by a million light-years!)

    2: Dylan Elise

    3: Tony Royster

  • Fat Mike brought me here....

  • I like the part when he played the drums

  • Kids, none of your idols are better than Buddy Rich. You are going to understand that someday.

  • Brooks Wackerman blows MTV boy travis barker out of the water.

  • sorry presses dislike for this by mistake!this si from another world

  • 0:43 to about 0:48 is my favorite part... i have no clue why.

  • No words. He's amazing!

  • His parents must have gone deaf with pride by the time he was 5.

  • neil peart probably worshipped this guy

  • @boobengarden666 he still does

  • I reckon jhonny rabb is as good as buddy rich

  • this is just incredible

  • If you think hunching over your snare for a half hour while your band goes to sleep is jamming out better than Travis Barker, I say put down the crack pipe. This kind of drumming may have went over back in the day, say 1973 or whatever, but things evolve. Get used to it. If you want to sit around Vegas, smoking cheap cigars, drinking Bourbon, rehashing the greasy $4.99 all-you-can-eat gristle steaks at the Sands in Vegas as Buddy Rich indulges himself in snare rudiments, go for it. Barker!

  • @JoeJacari Not even punks would probably agree. Fat Mike shared this video today on Twitter! Ironic.

  • what ride is that. 1970 ad sounds like a sweet ride

  • Not bad. He's almost as good as Meg White from White stripes.

  • now this is a jammin session

  • Haha, only just started watching Buddy Rich videos, and already noticed there is a trend of people bringing up the shirtless tattooed percussionist from Blink... honestly, they are both great. Buddy is a legend, and Travis will probably end up being remembered as one of the greats too... so why all the arguing? You'll probably find that Travis looks up to Buddy anyway

  • Meethinx And Another You Retard. I Have Lived In The South All Of My Life. I Am A Pure 100% Rebel. I Was Born And Raised In The South. So Unless You Are Going To Comment On The Topic Of Discussion. Keep Your Stupid Mouth Shut Punk!!!!!!

  • Meethinx and as for you dumbass. I am a true southern rebel. So who the fuck are you to even open your dumbass mouth anyway? You don't even fucking know me. And if you don't like what i said KISS MY REBEL ASS!!!!!!!!!

  • Meethinx you need to shutup loser. I am a true southern rebel you moron. SuperThissucks so what if he did moron? The topic of conversation has nothing to do with that stupid. I don't need to realize a damn thing. Stick with the topic or just keep your fucking stupid mouth shut.I don't need you to stupid morons saying anything to me. As neither one of you dumbasses can't even keep up with the topic that is being discussed!!!!!!

  • @ antiquecarlover. Plz don't associate yourself with the true southern rebels in your rant!!

  • YOU ALL ARE WRONG NEIL PEART IS THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD. HE CAN DRUM ALOT BETTER THAN BUDDY RICH EVER COULD. AND FOR THOSE WHO DON'T LIKE WHAT I SAID ABOUT BUDDY RICH CAN KISS MY REBEL ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @antiquecarlover you DO realize that Neil Peart played at Buddys memorial service right? They were good friends

  • @SuperThissucks They NEVER met each other.

  • Thé greatest drummer!

  • Now this right here is a real drummer.

One of the greatest to ever pick up the hammers of the gods.(drumsticks)

  • damn...!!!!!

  • Travis who? This guy was born to play drums, literally

  • Who the fuck is Travis Barker?

  • Buddy Rich Has To Be The Best Drummer That There Could Ever Be!

  • 0:03 :D:D just look at his face ,when he kicked the microphone with his stick :D: just stop the video on 0:04 :D i love Buddy

  • This video shows how Buddy Rich is the "Tyrannosaurus rex" on drums!!!!

  • 2:24 LIKE A BOSS

  • ive watched buddy's videos hundreds of times and still cant believe his left hand.Did his brain think he had two right hands or what?Damn, his thumb and fingers freak me out

  • It pains me to see comments about Travis Barker on every Buddy Rich video.....

  • @itsnotcole Oh, like that one you just posted? Idiot.

  • @itsnotcole I dont think there is, it seems that every top comment on his videos is some guy bitching about it.

  • @itsnotcole yeah, and you're part of the fucking problem dipshit.

  • To those people who think Bonham, Moon, Baker, Peart etc are the best drummers, im sorry but they are not. They were fine drummers, yes, but are not in the same league as true great masters such as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Loiue Bellson, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Joe Morello etc. They themselves would tell you that.

  • JAW DROPPING

  • kills it so hard!!!

  • I had a Slingerland set like Buddy Rich's that I donated to a music school... had no idea it was worth over a grand. Whoops!

  • Please dont discuss Travis Barker in the comment section of a Buddy Rich video. Really does not fit in here...just making yourselves look dumb.

  • @Sabiano you're mentioning him... -_-

  • a real god.tnx u for coming in our planet

  • Even though I'm a rock musician, I'll be the first one to admit that rock drummers don't have shit on jazz drummers. Guys like Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, Louie Bellson, Max Roach, and Elvin Jones - to name a few - are FAR BETTER drummers than guys like John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Keith Moon. Bonham may be my favorite drummer, but I'm a musician who is smart enough to realize that favorite does not always equal best. Unfortunately too many people are not capable of differentiating between the two.

  • @JandBMan312 Correct, and very well stated ~

  • @JandBMan312 I DO know the difference on both points, and agree with you 100%.

A lot of GREAT drummers today and yesterday, but Buddy Rich was one of a kind as he could do it ALL, and did it BEST! Without a doubt THE drumming legend of all time.

  • Holy shit that single stroke roll was crazy

  • For the impatient: the blast beats start at 4:05

  • This man never had a lesson. That's what makes him one of the best.

  • I love barker, grohl, peart, moon, etc. but keep coming back to buddy rich. His precision in drumming puts him right on top.

  • HOW DOES HE DO THAT?!?!?!

  • Idk if this has been said before or if you can even compare two (don't see why not both are drummers.) but in my opinion Buddy Rich is not the best drummer. Not even Number 2. In my opinion Number 1 is John Bonham and Number 2 is Ginger Baker. My number3 would probably be Keith Moon because he was the first drummer to actually trash his set.

  • @fudgecatnipples Trashing an instrument =/= Being a good musician.

Also, Buddy is far more rudimentally, technically and musically adept than Bonham, Baker or Moon ever were.

Saying that, it's not really my place to say who better appeals to your subjective taste. :P

  • @fudgecatnipples LMFAO. A comedian! Nice.

  • @fudgecatnipples I'd of said Rich, Moon, Bonham then Ginger

  • @fudgecatnipples WTF!?!?! so if you took a shit on a path you would be the best walker is that what you are saying ?????kieth moon is the first to say buddy rich is his idol, learn about your idols before making dumbass statements

  • @stevedabigdrumma I said Moon was number 3. Regardless of you're lack of knowing how to read someones comment, John Bonham is still the best drummer.

  • @fudgecatnipples read your comment fine thanks, dont think booting drum kits around a stage means you are a better drummer, anyway krupa should be slightly ahead of bonham

  • best drummer in the world

  • Universität? ha,

  • Travis "spark me up" Barker.... baaahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

  • There's no one to compare buddy to! He was the ultimate double stroke drummer if you can dig it? Billy Cobham played straight strokes and he was the shit at that particular think!! There are so many cats that can really play,so steal what you can of buddy's thing and do your own shit!!

  • 2:55- 3:17 saids enough he is the king of drums

  • Who knew that Spock was such an awesome drummer?

  • In regard to rhythm, it's multi-layered. Macro, micro, nano, and LIGHTSPEED! Long live the BEST!!

  • I have to laugh at every compilation of "Top Ten Best Drummers" that does not include Buddy Rich. Idiots, all.

  • HIS THE BEST

  • practice.

  • @littlejimmyjames, he was once asked, "How do you warm up?" Buddy said, "I take my hands out of my pockets."

  • @crlaw75 them some warm pockets. he practised for sure. all this myth making, i dunno. but he was the best so his natural ability was unsurpassed.

  • @littlejimmyjames, natural ablility for sure. He put drummers to shame.

  • My God! How in the hell does anyone become that good at something. Simply awesome! NO ONE WAS EVER BETTER-PERIOD! Just look at this video and marvel at sheer talent.

  • Jesus christ...

  • He could masturbate and finishes in 5 secounds.

  • @TheAdeptRogue360 "Cause he's a Boss! That's why!

  • He's good but where's the rhythm?

  • @Bryan62601 LMFAO!

  • Classic!

  • 0:03

I just love how that little hiccup didn't even throw his game off. That is true talent.

  • Boy this guy sucks, I like the White Stripes.

  • @BradleyVolk3 Are you joking?

  • @iDrummin43 c'mon now. Did you laugh?

  • @BradleyVolk3 I did lol.

  • Fastest drumming Ive ever seen. goddamn i need to work on my rolls.

  • all i see is speed and technical prowess, can somebody link me to a video where he actually displays some drumming that just sounds good, with some subtlety and rhythm rather than just speed

  • @333psychonaut You don't hear the rythm and subtlety cause it's too fast. And I ain't shiting you.

  • @beatlesguyEM if you don't hear the rhythm, it's because you're just not listening to it right. Buddy has probably more natural groove in his left ass cheek than most people attain in an entire lifetime.

  • @Baekmagoji I was saying that cause the guy said it was only technical prowess...

  • he must've broken over a billion drumsticks

  • he is a good drummer obviously.. but to be honest i dont really like his stlye, theres no feel or emotion in a solo like this, its quite bland

  • @ADM1253 LMFAO.

  • @ADM1253 Good one! LOL.

  • @ADM1253 Bland? I don't see that. Old school definately, i love Neil Peart but Buddy drums circles around him. Who are your favorite drummers?

  • @ADM1253 <------HAHAHAHA this guy

  • When Buddy plays Chuck Norris listens!:)

  • Absolutely mental. What a monster. Man I miss Buddy.

  • I'm sure he was an octopus in another life!

  • You would think someone who made his living beating things with a stick could've worked out all his aggressions. Amazin' as BR was as a drummer, he was a super-asshole (just listen to the secret recordings of his tour bus tirades).

  • @JoltinDjango That doesn't make him any less of a drum genius, does it? You know it doesn't.

  • @JoltinDjango lol the tour bus recording was funny

  • Shithowdy.

  • The BEST! :D

  • This guy is fricken' insane! Love it!

  • No one in a sweater can play better!

  • warning.. you may want to put on an adult super-absorbent diaper before watching this

  • it seems as though the drums and buddy just communicate somehow, i dont know how he does it, he just knows how to let the sticks do what is physically natural, therefore interacting with the instrument the way it is supposed to be interacted with. The other insane part was that he was born that way :)

  • Comment removed

  • 4:10 His hands were glitching..

  • everything about this mans drumming is perfect. except his posture. for some reason that stood out to me

  • Greatest ever. 9 people are complete idiots

  • ahhahaha at the start where he hits the overheads and looks up at them

  • those 9 people actually dont know why they were born

  • imagine programming THAT into a drum machine.

  • @minorthreat141 man... he is a drum machiene

  • @thegimpygimpy drum machines have posters of buddy rich on their walls when they are growing up..haha

  • The drummer from the Butthole Surfers is better than this guy.

  • Travis Barker is so much better.

  • @moosemcfly Even though there is no point in deciding which musician is "better" than another, if you seriously think Travis Barker or Dave Grohl is a more skilled drummer than Buddy Rich than it just proves that you know nothing at all about drumming.

  • @moosemcfly I see what you did there; epic trolling ftw.

  • @moosemcfly LOL Barker ain't sh!t compared to Buddy Rich. Barker is a really good drummer but Buddy Rich was a freak of nature.

  • Anyone can beat the drums today.....But nobody can PLAY the drums Like Buddy could. Lets see someone "BUDDY RICH" the drums. Ain't gonna happen PERIOD!

  • goes to show the difference between my generation and the 60's and 70's........we fuckin suck! lol

  • This solo and Michael Shrieve's at Woodstock...fuckin mind blowing

  • some great drumming, i surf if he is self taught after watching this video and i was right

  • I think Butt-Head said it best when he said:

"If my hands could move that fast, I'd never leave the house."

  • the best for that type of drumming.then its keith moon from the who and reni from the stone roses.

  • @hoppybhoy71 LOL.

  • @cadaverr im talking about rock band drumming not jazz.the two i mentioned are great drummers in bands.

  • Not to be rude but at 4:00 he looks like angry Chinaman trying to get that last bit of rice.

  • @maccermacnab Is that best you got? The man is pouring his entire being into pulling off something that was out of reach for 99.9% of the drumming world. Not to be rude, but you'd look like you had a incurable psychological dysfunction from 0-4:00 and beyond.

  • @eturkreenz dry up, it was a fucken joke moron.

  • To be honest I've followed Blink 182 for years and Travis barker is a brilliant drummer but he is only a pupil to the teacher that is buddy. Buddy brilliant

  • @danno1no2 Travis Barker brilliant? lol.

  • In fact, if we're going to compare Travis (who is alive) to Buddy (who is dead) then we might want to include John Bonham (who is dead) who makes Travis look like a beginner as well. Yeah... there are too many drummers WAY better than that Travis guy to even put him in the top ... Hmmmm... ten even.

  • @opticalpig

Now now, leave them alone. We use the fact that some people mention Travis Barker and Buddy Rich in the same breath to distinguish them from people who aren't idiotic 14 year olds.

  • I'm 53 years old. I've seen buddy perform several times and have watched this particular solo. I played the drums with a band in my younger days and was a mediocre drummer who could keep a beat and throw out a solo here and there. I just watched several Travis Barker vids and cna truly say that he didn't do anything I couldn't do. Good but totally un-notable. This solo . . . i couldn't touch this in my wildest dreams. Sorry. not even worth comparing.

  • long live buddy rich

    maestro , capo

    nicodrumsheaven

  • this guy sucks! travis barker kicks his ass!! (lol can't wait for the biggest offensive wave on me)

  • @ahrims221 Dude you came too late to the party. We've all been through that "Travis Barker kicks Buddy's ass" stuff on here and we're all too tired to reply to it anymore.

  • Any drumming machine would break down trying to outplay Buddy. Buddy could part the Red Sea with his solos.

  • Someone needs to make a CGI ending where the drums explode, and the cymbals melt into magma.

  • 1:37 to 1:42 = GOLDEN

  • Travis barker cant even play ,he sounds like shit and even if he knows technique, that does not make him good

because of somebody beating the crap out of the drum kit, that's not playing, its you don't practice sounding good for no reason

you can go on about my opinion all you want but lets face it i have seen him playing badly on countless videos

if you don't want to believe what i have as a musician, then you better have a damn good winning argument

  • "No one is born with talent?" I think Mozart, Beethoven, and Buddy Rich had a little. Buddy Rich was voted #1 in the Downbeat readers' poll with monotonous regularity until he was finally eclipsed by Billy Cobham in 1973. Find One Word by Mahavishnu and you will see why. "There were giants on the earth in those days." I last saw Buddy at the Newport Jazz festival. He then had double bass drums and many tom toms and played so beautifully - with real groove, not just speed - that I wept openly.

  • @i3rucei3ruce. Ummmmm. Ur wrong about buddy. He was in a vaudeville how playing drums at 18 months old known as "traps the boy wonder" Tell me when in 18 months he was able to do all that practicing. He didn't he was a prodigy.

  • yeeahh buddyy!!
