The difference between religion and medical procedures is medical procedures keep you alive, and they've been exhaustedly tested and retested. Religion, as George said, is for weak minds who can't deal with the fact that they are going to die and that's that. Nothing is waiting for them, just death. He admitted that he believed there was infact a higher power or supreme being as he stated "I believe we are part of something far greater than we could ever understand". i've read the bible, i was a christian and didn't question it at all when i was young. why would i? i had been taught it as the truth, i believed everything in the bible to be true, that there was a god in heaven looking after us and caring about us and that there would be a life after death. that changed somewhere around age 12, i started thinking. these stories made no sence, they didn't fit. they were no different from other fairy tales and there were countless other religions...

You look at the way so many complex factors came into play to create the universe, the solar system, our planet and all the life in it, and I don't understand how atheists can chalk it all up to some random, meaningless accident of evolution. The way the planets revolve around the sun, the ebb and flow of the tides, the changing of the seasons, the cycles of birth through death, the phases of the moon, etc. It all moves with almost clockwork-like precision, How can that be accidental?

No, you get it all wrong dude. The reason people accept the big bang theory is because it's the theory that best explains why things are the way we interpret them to be. The old testament view was once the best theory we had for explaining what we saw, so no wonder people beleived in it. The difference between religion and medical procedures is medical procedures keep you alive, and they've been exhaustedly tested and retested. Religion, as George said, is for weak minds who can't deal with the fact that they are going to die and that's that. Nothing is waiting for them, just death. I'd also like to add that yes, laughing makes a huge difference, and thinking isn't dangerous unless you don't want people to find out you've been lying to them.

i've read the bible, i was a christian and didn't question it at all when i was young. why would i? i had been taught it as the truth, i believed everything in the bible to be true, that there was a god in heaven looking after us and caring about us and that there would be a life after death. that changed somewhere around age 12, i started thinking. these stories made no sence, they didn't fit. they were no different from other fairy tales and there were countless other religions...

I just don't think the religions we have created explain him fully. Only a complete understanding of the universe will allow us to. My point is: both atheists and believers do not have enough evidence to make their claims. In this case, the bible is one of many holy books written by men and is no more or less credible than, say, the koran.
