if its not FDA approved, nothing will happen. but you have to consider his health above and beyond a less than honorable discharge. there is recourse after his sgt. he can go up the chain of command all the way to the secretary of the branches to get satisfaction. call your senators and congressman because commands start shaking in their boots when they get a congressional or senatorial call. you have a lot of tools at your disposal.

If you get a less than honorable discharge then you can appeal it after a few yrs and get it changed. I think he will get a general discharged based on failure to conform to military duties. I know of a few people that recieved that discharge.
